Day 1 of First Grade! With Tyler growing up so quickly, at least KK is still my silly sweet girl!
Someone looks pretty tired here. 8am class every day? How in the world are we going to swing that?
Excited that Tyler and his preschool BFF are going to be in the same class this year. I'm also worried since I know how rambunctious they can be when they get together. Haha! Fingers crossed.
Daddy and Tyler! Lining up and everything, so new!
Tyler heading off to the first day of school in Grade 1:
Katelyn and Kylee got some fun playing time in too as they waited for their big brothers to start first grade.
Tyler and his 1st grade teacher Miss Hassine. She's brand new to the school, and only 25 years old. 4'11. Tiny! Seems sweet, from what I can tell anyway.
Met up with some mommy friends after drop off (Bonnie/Christine/Lina) to catch up over coffee. Big boys after their first day! Tyler looked tired and sleepy - it's a long full day for them.
After their first day we headed to Tutti Frutti for an after-school snack. Tyler seemed to have woken up by then. He was excited to hang out with Nevan/Brady/Jordan. None of them are in his class this year, Waaah! Although I feel secure enough in my friendships with the moms to know that it won't keep us all from hanging out a lot. Thank goodness we've all become so close over their kindergarten year!
The kids were going to the pool that afternoon but without a proper chaperone for Katelyn, I didn't want to bring the kids and have to get in the water with everyone there. Instead I convinced the kids that our own community pool would have to do. The kids still had a fun time!
Tuesday Kumon. Weird scheduling since Tyler gets out at 2pm. I drop him off at Kumon at 230, then go back to get KK at 3pm then go back to pick him up. Have to wait with Katelyn until he's done. Good thing she's quite agreeable waiting.
Wednesday KK and I had a nice little day to ourselves, which included shu mai at the Spectrum. Love our little times together.
First graders!
I felt guilty that we had missed the pool playdate the week before so felt obligated to take them that afternoon. Only problem is that Katelyn has to nap, and she didn't wake up until past 4pm. Didn't get to the pool until 4:30pm, and the kids barely had time to play with their friends before the lifeguards called a water safety break at 5pm (always done on the hour) and we all got ready to leave. Oops. Tyler was NOT happy. Double oops.
But he cheered up pretty quick playing with his friends.
Starting a new little routine with Tyler. Since I don't pick up Katelyn until 3pm and he gets out at 2pm, we head to the shopping center where Katelyn's school is in and have Tutti Frutti while we do our Kumon. Perfect right?
Look - twins!
Friday morning. Tricky morning. Needed to nap Katelyn before I picked up Tyler at 2pm. Headed to the park in the morning to work off some energy. So overcast!
Then met up with my friend Connie for coffee nearby, before heading home and putting Katelyn down for her nap.
Really worried that I was going to have to wake up Katelyn from her nap to get Tyler, but she woke up by herself! Maybe I didn't need to be so worried after all. Headed to pick up Tyler and Katelyn happily played with Noemi while we waited. She's feeding a little baby doll a bottle! So motherly.
Ouch where'd you get that scratch KK? Apparently from climbing trees with Noemi.
Friday night Football. Katelyn was super cute, although not that into it. I'm just happy when she's attempting to participate.
Everything was rosy until Kendall kicked the ball into the goal instead of Katelyn. What a sore loser.
After soccer dinner playdate. We decided to eat at the town center instead of joining the large group of other people bbq'ing at the park. Didn't want a repeat of the last time we were all there, inadvertently.
Saturday morning we met up with KK's ICDC crew for a free Home Depot kid event. The kids each made their own wooden trucks and painted them. Super cute. Definitely more difficult than we had thought it would be.
Lunch at CPK afterward. Kind of crazy since the kids are all around Katelyn's age. Younger and not really all that good at listening yet. At least us mommies all got to have some sangrias!
Little Hoopsters in the afternoon. Will took Tyler first while I napped Katelyn. We headed over there in time for the game. Katelyn wasn't too interested in the game though.
Video of Tyler practicing bball drills:
After game fun. Who knew a jump rope would be so fun?
Cute little sisters!
Headed to 101 Noodle Express for Tyler's favorite - soup dumplings! Brady's favorite too, and the Kong's joined us as well. Our first meal together as a family, and it went smoothly! The boys ate SO many xiao long baos!
Sunday morning Will went to help his parent's move some items, while I took the kids to a quiet beach to meet some friends. Got there early and it was overcast, but who really likes a hot day at the beach? Nice beach since it's in a harbor so there's no crazy waves, AND the parking lot is super close. PERFECT!
Video of Tyler and KK playing at the beach:
Rinsed off the kids quick and then headed back to Irvine. Did a quick switcheroo with Will (who was out having lunch with his parents) and they took Katelyn while I took Tyler to meet his friends for a movie playdate to watch Turbo at the District. Fun!
Sunday we met up with our friends for dinner at Fukada. They're visiting from Taiwan so it's always great to see them when they're in town.
We made it through our first week of first grade! Tyler has been coming out of the classroom kind of zombie-like but I think he's starting to get used to it. There were some issues the first week with chatting with his friend too much but I think we were able to nip it in the bud and talk to Tyler about appropriate behavior in class. Hopefully we won't have to worry about it too much.
