Lot's of pictures this week. Can't help it!
The week started off with Memorial Day on Monday - no school for Tyler and no work for Will. Yay! We had RSVP'd for a soft opening of Playland Cafe, and I was excited since Katelyn and I hadn't been before. Both Tyler and Will had gone a couple weeks ago for a birthday party. Started out the morning first with breakfast at our local Taiwan Breakfast place - Four Seas. Yum yum yum. Love this place. Katelyn really liked their sandwiches too!
Afterward we headed to Playland at 10am to meet up with some friends (2 other families of my friends Christine and Janet). The kids had a great time playing in there, and Katelyn really liked the ball shooting. It's a pretty cool place but I don't know how long the kids can actually play before they get a little bored, since it's basically one large area with the ball shooting and slides. I think there's a side area too where kids can build things but it's not as popular. The best part is that my friends and I could chat right outside the room and still see the kids through the large glass windows. Good thing all the husbands were in there to play with the kids!
Here's Tyler and his friend Brady shooting balls from the top floor.
And Katelyn going down each of the 3 different color slides. I went down one of them and they're pretty fast!
The kids had a great time and we left around noon. Here are our kids and Christine's kids outside (Janet's family left a little earlier). They have three kids - a boy and two girls. My perfect dream combination!
We went home and took nice long naps - ALL of us. Very nice and relaxing - how holidays should be! Then our friends the Garners came over around 4pm to hang out and barbeque. Always a fun time with Jen/Stacy, we get along so well and have been friends since Tyler and Kaden were little toddlers! Kylee and Katelyn have a good time together too - check out their little self portrait!
The kids ate quick outside and then were off and running around in the yard. Thank goodness our yard is playable again, their feet still got quite dirty running around barefoot though. They didn't mind!
Dinner started out with these mini caprese bites that I made (darn forgot to get a photo) that were yummy, a quinoa salad, korean kalbi and bacon wrapped steak. YUM!
This picture cracks me up of Katelyn- it's her angry face. She's so white here, I imagine that's how she'd look as a vampire. Haha!
The kids played hard all afternoon while we hung out. And then Jen made chocolate chip cookies! The kids DEVOURED them! Even Tyler, which is amazing because he rarely eats cookies!
The kids get along great and I love that we had such a nice relaxing afternoon just hanging out with good friends.
My little silly KK.
By 8pm we cleaned up and the Garners headed home, but not before a group picture of course!
These pictures were courtesy of our boys. Not bad...
Tuesday morning was Katelyn's first visit of her new preschool, Great Foundations Montessori at the Woodbury Town Center. I was very nervous. She is so easy going most of the time but with the meltdowns I've seen at drop off for her Chinese school, I was much more wary. It was also a 'staff development day' for Tyler so he had no school either. Doh. We got to GF at 8:15am so Katelyn could meet her new teacher (Miss Jessy) for the first time and then play out in the yard. She barely hesitated and just ran off to play in the large playground. Drop off is usually 830am-9am in the yard, and then they line up to go into their classes.
The playground is huge! KK didn't miss a beat!
She lined up with her new class and even put her hands behind her back like everyone else.
Then we went into the classroom and she participated in circle time. I watched from outside and she did great. When I went in to get her, the teacher was teaching them about ellipses! Loving it. Then I took her to ICDC (her last week!) to finish off the day.
After dropping Katelyn off, Tyler and I headed to Fukada for lunch with my friend Mariam. Tyler was pretty well behaved and it was nice catching up with M. Woohoo to having kids old enough to come out to lunch without being bothersome!
We had made plans with my friends Susy and Christine to go to Disneyland later in the day, and I had been debating going earlier to meet another friend that was there. But since I knew we were going to be there kind of late, I didn't want to go too early (I'm lazy, none of these full days anymore!). We met up at Christine's house around 2pm and Susy drove us all. It was a boys day trip this time with Tyler, Nevan and Brady. We went last week with the boys' little sisters. The kids were really excited! Here they are on the tram.
We hit up quite a few rides, considering it was quite busy that day. Star Tours...
Matterhorn, Pirates, Haunted House, Autopia...
Dinner break for Turkey Legs! Tyler amazed the other moms with how much he ate of it. The kid LOVES turkey legs!
I kicked BUTT on the Buzz Lightyear ride!
After dinner, our last ride was Indiana Jones. Tyler was just BARELY enough to get on it. We had him wear his hat a little high and the cast member had him take it off. Whew! This was also the worse moment of the day - Tyler somehow got his finger STUCK in the seat-belt when he was putting it on. He was screaming and I couldn't get it out and the ride was starting to go and I was yelling at the operator to unlock the belt. It was crazy, I still feel unsettled thinking about it. Reminded me of when he got his finger slammed and then stuck in the car door. SHUDDER. He calmed down quick and I was so proud of him that he said he still wanted to go on the ride. But he didn't like it, it was WAY turbulent! Got home late and Tyler was SO tired.
Wednesday morning I picked up Jordan to take him to school and got to meet his new freshly born baby brother Ryland. AAHHHHHH! Wasn't even a week old. He was sleeping so I didn't get to hold him, but he was awake when I dropped Jordan off after school. AHHHHHHH! Love just staring at him, he is so tiny and so cute! AAAAHHH! Even Tyler liked to look at him and wave to him (that's his hand in the bottom photo). Tyler had his last Waterworks swim lesson that afternoon, and unfortunately it wasn't with his usual teacher since it was a makeup I needed to schedule before it expired. Didn't go too well when Meghan had him swim almost the whole way and wasn't there when he got tired and panicked. Uck.
Thursday was a CRAZY day. Started out with an early piano lesson for Tyler and then we headed over to GF for Katelyn's second visit at 9:30am. She got to participate in their 'free choice' time where they get to choose themselves what they want to do. She loved it! Was excited to trace and draw and do the different activities. While she was there, I ran off quick to drop Tyler off at Kindergarten.
This was her favorite activity - moving little plastic things from one pocket to another with a little prong! Totally working on the hand/eye coordination. When I told her it was time to leave, she wanted to finish it first! I think she'll do great next week, fingers crossed. We left at 10:30am, about an hour visit.
Then it was off to ICDC for her VERY LAST day there. It was bittersweet for sure. Tyler was there from 6 months until he graduated and went off to Kindergarten, and Katelyn has been there since she was 3-6 months! Got Katelyn and her little BFFs together for a quick photo in the morning - they are so cute together!
And of course another one with Kylee!
Then I went to Costco to pick up some Gogurts (for Katelyn's special last day snack that afternoon) and 4 pizzas with cookies and brownies for the ICDC Staff. Dropped those off, then went home and sent the picture of the girls to Target to get them printed out via one hour photo. Then went to Daiso to buy frames for the photos, then picked up the photos. It worked out perfect that Jeren (Bonnie's husband) picked up the boys that day and took them to get frozen yogurt, so I had a little extra time to run all my crazy errands. Had just finished them in time to pick up Tyler around 2:30pm and then rushed over ICDC to get there before 3pm. Katelyn had ballet that day so I had a limited amount of time before we had to leave. Waaah! It was hot and they were doing water play so she was in her swim suit, not ideal for photos, but oh well. I had bought a 2 dozen bouquet of pink roses from Costco that morning and Katelyn handed them out to her teachers. WAAAAHH! Here she is with some of her favorite teachers.
Madison said "I'm going to miss Katelyn!"
Changed her to her ballet clothes and we were off to ballet. WHEW. I actually was not emotional much, which was good. I was ready to say our goodbyes and excited about Katelyn's new school. After ballet, Will met us at home and we went to Mobtown Pizza at the District to meet up with Katelyn's ICDC friends and family. Perfect little going-away dinner/playdate. Tyler wasn't too stoked that all the kids were Katelyn's age, but he was fine once he got the iPad!
The kids had a great time playing while I hung out with the moms. Hopefully we'll be good at getting together once a month for the girls to all play together!
FORCE CHOKE!
Striking a pose!
Photobomb!
Group picture at the end! Yoko and I and Lisa were enjoying a good amount of wine. Everyone went home, but Yoko and I stayed to hang out and chat afterward. We get a long really well and our HHs are really stress-relieving. After the crazy day I had, I really needed to unwind! Yoko drove me home since Will had taken the kids home.
Friday was Tyler's swim team orientation! Excited about the season! Then we met up with our friends the Owyangs for dinner at Nikko Nikko at Woodbury Town Center. It was really good catching up with Joanne - they're adopting a baby from China this Summer, will be their 2nd child they've adopted and their 3rd overall. Tyler and Luke had a great time playing. They have the same piano teacher so we'll see them in a couple weeks for recital.
Saturday. After naps we headed over to my friend Christine's home to get the girls ready for their ballet photos later that afternoon. LOVE her house, it is so amazingly decorated and beautiful. Words can't even describe. Christine helped me curl Katelyn's hair and get it ready to put into a bun!
Tyler played basketball with Brady in their backyard.
Hair is all done! So beautiful, love it!
Next is their recital dress!
The girls were really absorbed with watching The Little Mermaid on tv.
A little blush..
And some REALLY red lipstick...
And our little ballerinas are done! Then Will took a million photos of them. Had to share some of my (many) favorites!
I gotta say the background really helped make the pictures even more special! Then we rushed off to their ballet studio for photos. Tyler kept himself busy with the iPad. We should get the photos in about 5-6 weeks.
With her little friends! They're all older than her, with Liv turning 4 in May, Kendall turning 4 in June, and Mason turning 4 in December.
Ok that lipstick is way too red.
I love this picture of the girls - they are so silly.
Katelyn had some pretty serious faced ballet shots. She's even balancing on one leg!
Whew, got a tiny glimpse of what 'Dance Moms' go through. Haha! Afterward we went to our favorite Chinese restaurant 101 Noodle Express for a quick dinner, and then it was home for video game/movie night!
After Chinese school on Sunday we met up with our friend Laura/James and their kids for lunch at Elephant Bar. Tyler was on the same basketball team as Justin earlier this year, and Laura and I hit it off. We were there for over 2 hours just chatting!
Glad the week is over, time to start another crazy one. How am I going to swing going back to work?
