We had a nice fun relaxing week, not too busy, just enjoying ourselves!
Monday started a new session of Katelyn's Chinese preschool - the last one before they are off for the Summer. It was so hot on Monday, perfect for the kids to have their own form of water play. They practiced colors, numbers and shapes in Chinese as they fished.
Dentist appointments for the kids! Love our dentist - Dr. Harvey Lee of OC Little Smiles. Tyler especially loves the video game console in the waiting room. I took the kids both by myself this time - Will usually comes but not this time. The kids are old enough / well behaved that they don't need the extra supervision. Found out that Tyler's two bottom middle teeth are loose. Very slightly loose though, the dentist said it could take anywhere from 6 months to a year before they come out! Clean bill of health too - kids love to floss so it wasn't too much of a surprise (knocking on wood)!
Found this picture Tyler had drawn of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Cute, right?
Tuesday was Disneyland with Katelyn and her little girlfriends! My friend Christine drove Susy and I with our girls Katelyn, Liv and Noemi. Noemi's almost 4 and Liv just turned 4. Katelyn loves playing with them! We got there around 5pm and watched the Beauty and the Beast show, went on Peter Pan, Snow White, watched the parade, and then Small World! Easy going Disney night!
After we got back home I dropped off Katelyn with Will (Tyler was already in bed!) and headed to Tokyo Table to meet my friend Yoko for Saketinis. I was already pretty beat but I love my saketini nights with Yoko. We just chat and drink and it's like a therapy session for both of us.
Wednesday was Tyler's Kindergarten Open House! He was very excited to have the whole family in his classroom to show us all the fun stuff they've been working on this year.
Here's a picture of Tyler on his first day of Kindergarten last year.
And his journal entries...
Loved their self portrait mosaics. Tyler's guy looks like he only has legs, and no arms!
Even his old Kinder teacher Miss Muranaka was there!
Here's Tyler with his current Kinder teacher Mrs. Wang. She was out for most of the year since she had gone through chemo for breast cancer.
That's Katelyn's little chubby arm pointing out Tyler's photo on their calendar.
Afterward the kids all played on the playground for a bit. Katelyn is totally ready to start Kindergarten, even though she still has two full years left of preschool.
Love her!
Back at home Tyler showed us some more artwork they did in class. Seems like they do mostly arts & crafts in Kinder...
Bedtime stories!
When I picked up Katelyn on Thursday from ICDC, they were having water play. Here's Katelyn and Kylee in their little swim suits!
Ballet time. Their performance is just a few weeks away!
After ballet, we dropped the kids off at ICDC for (their last ever!) Parent's Night Out. Then Will/I headed off to the District with the Garners to watch Star Trek. It was a good movie! Had to really book it back to school afterward to pick them up by 9pm though.
On Friday, Irvine Unified had a day off. Tack this along to the upcoming Monday off (Memorial Day) and Tuesday off (Staff Development Day?) and we were in for a LONG weekend. Luckily Katelyn still had her Chinese school that morning though. Dropped off Katelyn in the morning and then went back to the park at 11am to meet up with some of Tyler's friends for a mini-playdate. The boys played happily and the little sisters played happily too! I liked how the girls played in the shade.
Saturday morning we headed to the Discovery Science Center for their brand new exhibit, Lego Castles. The kids were really excited about it! Turned out to be pretty cool, but not as exciting as I thought it would be. They did have a really interesting exhibit on Leonardo DaVinci and his studies, but it wasn't too kid friendly. I learned a lot about the Mona Lisa though!
This was an interesting exhibit, the kids 'built' a wall on the computer and then shot the catapult at it. Unless you made the wall really strong, the catapult would 'knock over' your virtual wall. See, learning!
There was a big Lego castle for the kids to run around in. Even dress up as a knight!
The kids' favorite part - jousting! Even Katelyn got in on the action.
Katelyn drew a self portrait of herself in the Da Vinci exhibit. Even signed her name on the bottom.
There was a cool shadow exhibit that I really liked. Reminded me of some cover art for a Bruno Mars CD. Shadows apparently aren't always gray.
Some of Da Vinci's cool stuff - a mirror room!
I think Katelyn might be tall enough to ride Star Tours - she's almost 40 inches, right? Will need to make sure she wears some tall boots on our next Disney trip.
Can't go to the Science Center without playing in the Dinosaur playground..
Checking out the rocket blasting off...
And then some eco-friendly supermarket shopping.
We tried to play the recycling game but the conveyer belt was not working. I was not amused. But I still won. Haha!
After naps, we headed over to our friend Mirei's house (right here in Irvine!) for a BBQ. Brought some desserts and mini caprese bites (they were yummy). Was really looking forward to hanging out with Mirei/Jimmy and our good friends Tiff/Brian. Had a great time (and a good amount of white wine sangria). The kids played on their electronics most of the time. Had to leave before 10pm to get the kids to bed.
Sunday we totally slept in. Will/I woke up and fed the kids, and then went back to sleep. The kids played amazingly though, didn't even hear them fight or anything. They played seriously themselves until late in the afternoon when Will's parents came over. They really enjoyed playing in the backyard too - thank goodness it's finally clean and ready for them! We had spent Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon cleaning it up after all the yardwork we had done before. It's finally kid friendly again!
Will's parents came over and we made green onion pancakes from scratch. They make it so delicious and hopefully I watched and learned how to make it. Maybe I'll be brave enough to make it ourselves next time!
After dinner the kids played in the yard with the grandparents. Tyler got some good tips from grandpa about putting.
Definitely a nice and fun week/weekend. Still more to come with the super long weekend though!
