Happy Early Saint Patrick's Day!
Week started off with Katelyn at her little OC Chinese Preschool - drop offs are finally starting to get better now that she looks forward to the little princess castle to play with! After picking up Tyler from Kindergarten, we headed to a nearby Woodbury Park for Tiffany's 2nd Birthday Party. Love the woodchips at this park, much more than I love sand. The kids had never been to this park either, and they really liked playing there. The slide was a little crazy high though.
It was a Hello Kitty themed birthday party with delicious strawberry cupcakes. And Lee's Sandwiches which I haven't had forever! I brought some home for Will but ended up eating it all before he got home. Oops.
Tiffany's big brother is Kobi, who is in Tyler's kindergarten class. It's nice that the group of us moms all seem to get along and know each other since we all hang out while we wait to drop off our kids in the morning. They put the pinata on the ground - something I had never seen before - but makes sense since Tiffany would probably have had a hard time swinging the bat. Katelyn gave it a few good whacks too.
Dang Tyler, he really put his back into it.
Candy scramble! I always find it funny that my kids go after the candy... when Tyler doesn't even want to eat it and Katelyn doesn't even know what most of it is.
Um...those bags are kind of crazy full.
On Tuesday, while Jordan was over, he showed Tyler some of his Brazilian Jijitzu moves. This move is called the Sumo I think.
Leprechaun traps were due Thursday this week but we brought it in on Wednesday (kids had started bringing them in all week). Tyler was really excited about showing his friends his trap that he had built with Will.
After dropping off Tyler that morning, Katelyn and I headed over to her 3 year checkup (yes, a couple week's late!). She was excited to see the doctor and to see how much she had grown. I talked to her about Doc McStuffins and prepared her for the probability of getting a shot. Eeks. I didn't want to mess with her nap that day (usually she gets shafted since we have to pick up Tyler at 1:20pm and has to nap late) so I asked my friend Bonnie to pick up Tyler and take him home for me.
How sweet and unsuspecting is she? She came in at 39 inches height - a whopping 90%, and 34 pounds at 80th percentile! My sweet giant. Our pediatrician actually said that she thinks Katelyn will continue on her growing trend. She'll hopefully be taller than me!
Surprisingly, Katelyn was up to date with all her vaccinations and didn't need any shots. Talked to Bonnie and she said she'd still drop off Tyler for me and I'd drop off Jordan for her on Friday. Perfect exchange. Took Katelyn to Tomikawa for a Japanese food lunch. Knowing she could nap at a normal time was a huge relief. She was very excited about the little bits of tofu in her miso soup.
The night ended typically - Star Wars battle between the kids and Will. Here's Katelyn after she's been knocked out. She'll wait for Tyler to come and 'use the force' to raise her back up. Hilarious.
Thursday was ballet with Katelyn and her little friends. The kids love to run out after the class and sit on these concrete balls outside the studio.
Thursday night was a mommy's night out! I had been talking with Janet about the kids being sick a couple weeks before and she suggested that we needed a night off. Don't need to tell me twice! Connie's husband was out of town the week before this so we chose a date the week after, which was this night. Bonnie and Christine were able to join us and we all met at Kicking Crab later that night. Afterward we headed to the Balcony for some drinks and dessert.
On Friday Tyler's class celebrated St. Patrick's Day. Super cute. They had put out all the kids' traps around the room the day before and the kids were surprised with evidence of leprechauns having visited! The parents that stuck around got to see all the cute stuff the teachers had done for the class. The best part was seeing the kids so excited! Seriously, they really believe that leprechauns are real. It started with little green footprints on the door. (Btw, why would leprechauns even leave green footprints???)
The class was a mess! Apparently the kids had learned that leprechauns are really messy. Each trap had some gold or something taken away to show that the leprechaun had been there. It was SO fun to watch the kids running around. Here's Tyler discovering one of his pots of gold were missing.
Video of Tyler after the leprechaun's had come and gone:
That night we had an impromptu dinner with the Garners at Woodbury Town Center. It was cold! The kids always have fun and I love that us adults can just hang and chat. Love the Garners!
Saturday morning. Bright and early, we dropped off the kids at Will's parents' place in Woodbury East. And then we were on the road before 9am... headed to Vegas! Amazing I know. I was bummed that some of the people who were supposed to be going this weekend couldn't make it last minute, but it was OK - Will and I treated it like a fancy overnight date night! Was really excited about just hanging out and spending time together. (Yes, there were other people we were meeting up with, but without the friends that couldn't go, it just wasn't the same). We got in to Vegas a little before noon and walked around, checked into our hotel room at the Aria, did some gambling, and got tickets for Zumanity later that night.
We met up with some of the Kumon moms at 5:30pm for dinner at SW at the Wynn. I liked my scallops and Will liked his porterhouse. Of course some people like to comment about everything and some members of our party weren't too impressed with the meal. Whatever. (A little annoyed I sound, do I? haha!). Afterward we hung out with a few of them for a bit before heading off to drink/gamble/watch our show. Really enjoyed our alone time. Our last time in Vegas was September 2011 when we came for our birthdays and to watch Bruno Mars at the I Heart Radio concert. It was awesome!!
Zumanity - definitely an adult show!
We were back in bed by 3am and woke up and hit the road by 8am. Very impressed with ourselves! I'm amazed how easy and quick it is to get things done when there are no kids involved. Grabbed a Shamrock Shake from McDonald's before we hit the road too!
Drove back to Irvine and picked up the kids just in time to make it to a friend's birthday party nearby. Somehow totally forgot (even with the Shamrock shake) that it was St. Patrick's day and hence none of us were wearing Green. Doh. Will and I had some coffee and weren't falling over asleep yet, so that was good. The kids were excited to see friends.
Katelyn LOVED her cake! And I think Tyler somehow unknowingly took a sip of some sangria. Oops.
And had to add a silly picture of my little KK at the end. She is so sweet, I love her!
