Happy Labor Day! This long weekend marked the beginning of Katelyn staying home with me MWFs. It's been nice having the extra time with her, we have so much fun together and I realize how much I enjoy spending time with her ... when she's in an agreeable mood that is. Haha!
Monday we had a little BBQ at our home with Will's parent, my parents, and my brother's family. The kids were amazingly well behaved that day. No tantrums / meltdowns or anything! I brought a little table down for them and it was the first time that we actually fed them ahead of time (dumplings and soup) before the adults ate. They loved their own little table and not having to sit at the table with us for so long.
Tyler found a Trivial Pursuit game and was intent on playing it. He played it for quite a while with Will's parents. I have no idea how they played it but it basically consisted of moving pieces around the board. No questions or anything of course. It kept his interest for a long time! Later this week Katelyn pulled it out and announced she wanted to play it too! She really likes the Star Wars themed Operation game though, I see her pull it out a lot and play by herself.
Katelyn did puzzles with grandpa.
My parents brought my grandmother and Katelyn was super sweet with her! I was cleaning out baby clothes and found the bib she wore for her 1st birthday (it was a cupcake theme). She thought it was wonderful to wear as a necklace. WAAAHHH! She's so big now!
Here's my brother and his family with the kids. We tried to make these kabobs that he had made from Landon's birthday a couple weeks ago. They weren't as yummy as theirs though, boo.
The kids were great with taking photos with my grandmother. 90 years between my grandmother and Tyler!
After naps on Monday, we took the kids swimming. Katelyn has been wanting to go for SO LONG and I kept putting it off. Tyler has swim lessons so he wanted to practice his new skills. He loved that I actually came in the water with them (usually our swim playdates do not involve me going into the water. Ever).

Definitely a nice way to spend the holiday. The pool wasn't crowded at all and the kids had a great time.
I volunteer in Tyler's kindergarten class on Tuesdays and snapped this group photo of his later mustang class. It's really interesting to see how the kids interact.
On Thursday Tyler had another AYSO practice, gearing up for their first game on Saturday. Katelyn was Miss Popularity with her iPad. The kids never get to play with the iPad at home, and Katelyn only gets to see if when we're out at events like this to keep her busy. But it attracts so many other kids (even those that should be playing soccer at the time) that it's getting really distracting.
On Friday I was crazy and decided to take Katelyn for a quick trip to Disneyland. It did not help that it was ridiculously hot that day. SO HOT. We dropped Tyler off at school at 10am (with some delay since he forgot his stuffed animal for pajama day - major meltdown) and then headed up. She was SO excited!
Picture with the castle! It was my first time ever taking Katelyn to Disneyland just the two of us.
We didn't have a lot of time since we needed to pick up Tyler by 1:20pm, but we managed to hit a couple rides.
Dumbo!
The carousel.

And then it's a Small World. She really loved it.
I had wanted to get in line to meet some princesses but the wait times were SO long and just unbearable in the heat. Plus we were short on time. As luck would have it, we ran into Belle on the way out through the castle and I managed to push Katelyn right up to her. SO cute result, they walked together and had a little conversation! Katelyn was so excited and recreated the whole conversation for Will later. She loves talking about walking with Belle and that she took a picture with her.

Friday evening was the Woodbury Elementary School Ice Cream Social. We hadn't planned on staying long but we were hanging out with other families and didn't leave until almost 9am! The kids had a really fun time and I got to get to know some parents better too.
Saturday - big day. Tyler's FIRST EVER AYSO Soccer game! I was, admittedly, worried that they'd get their butt kicked...even though they don't even keep score at this age. Our team is just kind of a band of misfits. Here they are stretching - how cute are they in their uniforms - the Red Dragons!
Loved that Tyler totally got into it.
It was really quite hot but Katelyn kept cool inside her tent playing the iPad. Even in the shade she was still dripping beads of sweat. Yikes.
The boys all had a great time and didn't even know (or care) if they won or lost! I can see the motivation behind team sports.
Sunday was Tyler's first day at his Chinese Immersion Kindergarten class. I decided to stay and observe and wasn't too impressed. It was just the first day though, so hopefully the kids will get more adjusted. The teacher had a hard time keeping them enagaged.

Sunday afternoon we took Katelyn to get a haircut! We had mentioned to her that she needed one and she kept reminding us that she needed a haircut. She really wanted one! She was a perfect angel in the chair too when she was getting her hair cut.
Some random photos - my little KK!
Love this video. The kids are super into Jedi and they like to play "jedi" with each other. Videos of Katelyn and Tyler battling as Jedis:
