Another week of being a stay-at-home mom. Busy busy busy- but I'm really enjoying spending time with Katelyn and Tyler. I am really torn about this though - on one hand I really want to go back to work and make $$ and not worry about finances, but on the other hand, you can't buy this time back with your kids. And pretty soon kids won't even want to spend time with you anymore! It feels like a no-win situation.
On our first Monday together, just the two of us, Katelyn and I spent our 3 hours together pretty easily - we went to Costco! The kids LOVE going to Costco since they know they'll get a berry smoothie. Their favorite dessert!
On Tuesday Tyler started his Waterworks swim lessons with a new teacher, Crista B. I was worried since his first two teachers had left the company and now he he had to meet someone new. No worries though, she was a pretty blond - check check for Tyler! He loves his swim classes!
Katelyn was back in school on Tuesday and I was SO excited to see her diaper chart - that's her, 3rd row from the top, with all the UPs! UPs stand for "Used Potty" which is a huge deal since she would scream bloody murder before if they asked her to. Yippee! I attribute her change of attitude from staying at home with mommy.
On Wednesday, I took Katelyn to Disneyland with my friend Bonnie and her daughter Kendall. Kendall is almost a year older than Katelyn (9 months older) and they're the same size! Bonnie's son Jordan is in the same Kindergarten class with Tyler. We dropped off the boys and headed over, thinking that it would be a cool-ish day since Tuesday had lower temperatures. BOY were we wrong. It was SOOOOO hot.
Katelyn was excited, I've only taken her to Disneyland once just the two of us. I'm looking forward to many more of these little trips! Only problem is that usually we'd need to be back within 3 1/2 hours to pick up Tyler from CDC. I have him in the after school program M/W/Th. M/Ws so that I can nap Katelyn at a normal time and then pick up Tyler, and then Thursdays so that I get a day off to myself at least!
The highlight of our little short trip was meeting Rapunzel! The wait was unbearably long though, especially in the sun. Katelyn was very excited to meet her.
Video of Katelyn meeting Rapunzel. The lady playing Rapunzel may need to work on her kid skills - she wasn't getting too much response from Katelyn asking her the names of the birds on her shirt, and then trying to guess them!
After this we went on Katelyn's favorite ride - the carousel, and then Buzz Lightyear before we headed home. She was asleep in her stroller before we even got to the tram!
I dropped off Bonnie back at Woodbury Elementary and then took Katelyn home to finish her nap. She woke up the moment I turned off the engine in the garage, and she was NOT happy. I had to strong-hold her, kicking and crying, into her crib. I turned off the lights and told her it was still naptime. She cried for a couple minutes and went right back to sleep. WHEW! The heat from the day must have exhausted her because she slept and slept and slept. Tyler had CDC that day but I needed to pick him up in time for his taekwondo testing at 3:30pm. BAD mistake! Around 2:30pm I turned off her sound machine and she was UP and ANGRY. Ugh. My well thought out plan of dropping her off with Auntie Lisa while I took Tyler - completely went out the window. She had a terrible tantrum, screaming and crying for her new friend Kendall. I was quite frazzled and gave up. After an hour of tantruming, Katelyn finally calmed down enough to eat lunch. Hungry and tired was not a good combination. We picked up Tyler from school and we all went back home. Good thing there was another testing time at 6pm, which turned out to work great because then Will was able to join us! Katelyn behaved wonderfully through the 1 1/2 hr event and I was SO proud of Tyler for doing his form. We had been practicing a lot and he did GREAT! So proud of my little guy.
The sparring was hilarious.
Video of Tyler free sparring:
Video of doing a take down during sparring. So funny, just a little bit into the video Tyler gives a direct hit to the other boy's private parts, and t-i-m-b-e-r, the other kid went down. Oops!:
The students had to sit through the whole event, and they all did great. It's a long time for the kids to sit there quietly!
Katelyn happily kept herself occupied with the iPad.
Tyler's turn!
Video of Tyler belt testing. He really enjoys learning and practicing his form now!:
Silly Tyler.
Getting his new green belt!
Tyler and Mr. Do! Yay Tyler!
Proud mommy. I should get a green belt too, I'm always learning the forms and teaching it to him too!
After testing, all the kids got cupcakes with blue icing. BLUE icing! Obviously not a parent who decided on them, especially since the kids all have white uniforms. Very messy. These next two photos kind of blew me away, Tyler and Katelyn are almost identical! My mom said before that I only have one mold for making babies. Haha.
On Friday, I took Katelyn to a Playball course through the City of Irvine. It was H-O-T. Super hot, even at 10:30am in the morning. Katelyn had a good time participating but kept telling me she was done since it was so hot. She hung in through it though, but a 45-minute class is a bit much for a 2 year old. I withdrew her from the class after that.

Next up: baton twirling? :)

Will worked from home that day so he was able to stay at home with Katelyn while she napped. I picked up Tyler and he had just gotten accidentally kicked in the eye by another kid! He was so brave though, and didn't cry - but I could tell it really hurt. It was swollen at the time, but by the end of the weekend it was very bruised. Poor Tyler had quite a shiner!
Friday evening, we met up with our friends in Woodbridge for a bike playdate. It was still SO hot and humid. Even though the park is mostly shaded, it was quite uncomfortable. The kids had a great time though, which is really all that matters, right?
KK happily rode her Thomas the Train scooter. Good thing she doesn't insist on girly bikes!
Sweaty boys!
Love these two photos - Katelyn is laughing so hard with Zachary!
Group picture at the end of the night. We're all so shiny and sweaty! :)
The moms! The kids had a fun night, but then the heat started getting to them. It felt great taking a shower that night.
Saturday. Tyler had his second soccer game. We were a little iffy if we should go or not, since it was going to be unbelievably hot. We decided to go anyway, since we'll be out of town the following week. There were kids on our team that didn't come due to the heat though. This caused our boys to have to play full games, while the other team got to keep switching out their players to take breaks since they had more players.
Ready for the game! Surprisingly, our team did great! Even without breaks, they were really into the game and were actually possibly winning! Coach JP was very proud of them.
Competitive kids! The boys from both teams started taunting each other about the score. Tyler didn't like that the other team thought they were winning when they weren't. C'mon Tyler, good sportsmanship please!
Self appointed goalie. We need to work on Tyler to attack the ball more.
Good game boys!
After the game, we showered and napped the kids before our babysitter Vanessa came over at 5pm. Date night for Will and I! Our pseudo-anniversary is on Tuesday - 14 years to the day that we met/got together! Almost half my life. C-r-a-z-y, eh? We went out to my favorite prime rib place, Five Crowns. YUM!
Our friends Mariam and Frank joined us and we had a delicious dinner. Afterward we went to a place in Newport to shoot some pool (ages since we've done that!) and then played board games back at our place. Love date nights! Wish babysitting wasn't so expensive though. Ugh.
Whew, what a week! Lastly, a picture that Tyler drew - Katelyn getting a haircut! Haha!
Have a good week!
