Happy April! I found out last week that I won't be able to formally graduate with my Masters degree until the Fall. Why? Apparently I was supposed to enroll for a course the semester that I am planning on graduating. I had no idea, and my graduate advisor never mentioned it either! Could be a blessing in disguise though, gives me a little more leeway before I need to really get into job search mode. I'm still planning on walking in May though. So.. maybe it's not such bad news after all.
The kids have been quite a handful lately. Katelyn ESPECIALLY! She seems to disagree with us just for the sake of disagreeing. Terrible twos here we come! Here are some photos from her school camera with her friends.
This is Katelyn and Wes. Wes is quite a few months older than Katelyn and has an older sister that's a year older than Tyler. Their mom is really quite intense. At a birthday party this weekend, she was talking about how girls seem to have better hand-eye coordination than boys. She mentioned one of the other girls in class holding her pencil with a pincher grasp. So then I mentioned that one of the substitute teachers last week had mentioned that Katelyn was putting on her shoes by herself. (Right? This was in line with the conversation, wasn't it?) Without missing a beat, the other mom immediately pointed at her older daughter and said "oh Gabby did that too." Silence. Cricket's chirping. Needless to say the conversation ended after that. I thought I was a tiger mom...
Hugs with Sawyer! Copping a quick feel, eh?
Katelyn and Kourtney!
They're like big kids!
Monday morning Will got on an airplane for New Jersey. Waaah! I hate it when he goes out of town! I met up with my new friend Mirei to grab some coffee. Mirei has a 10 month old little boy, and they live right here in Irvine! We really hit it off and I can't wait to hang out again!
Katelyn threw a crazy fit at dinner that night, insisting in sitting in Tyler's booster seat. ARGH! Imagine my frustration! I was worried she was going to insist on always sitting there... but she seemed to have forgotten the next morning. You can even see her brattiness and stubbornness in this photo!
Thursday was Family Fun Night at Rubio's (fundraiser for ICDC). Will was supposed to be home by 3pm but his meetings got extended so he wasn't set to arrive back into John Wayne until almost 9pm. Total bummer! I decided I'd be brave and take the kids anyway since our good friends the Garners were going and the kids love them. Katelyn loves it when I pick her up first and then go get Tyler. She loves to play in the big yard with the older kids! These kids next to her are all almost a year older, yet she blends right in!
Tyler was happy that we were heading to Rubios.
After dinner the kids played outside around the fountains. It was really cold though!
After Will got home, I headed out to meet up with Mariam for a very much needed late night Happy Hour at the Balcony. It was very stress-relieving! I somehow lost my voice that night though..and it was gone/really raspy for quite a few days afterward.
Friday! Will worked from home (yay!) and also took the kids to school. No, I didn't get to sleep in though - I went to the gym instead. Did I mention that I went to the gym every day this week in the morning? I'm focused and motivated! We had a quick lunch at Boiling Point (super close to us) that was yummy and fast since there were no kids around. :) Then we caught an early afternoon showing of the Hunger Games before picking up the kids. I ate too much popcorn, Waaaah!
Vanessa (Tyler's favorite teacher) came over to babysit the kids after school. They LOVE her! Katelyn saw Vanessa's key-chain hanging from her jeans and wanted to hook it onto her own pants. Thank goodness Katelyn is such a good sleeper (knock on wood) and is so easy to put down. Otherwise I'd be much more concerned with having a babysitter! The next morning Katelyn was actually quite upset that Vanessa wasn't there anymore, and Tyler kept insisting that Vanessa was coming back!
Will and I headed to a Korean BBQ place in Tustin called Gen. We got there around 630pm with Mariam and Frank and the wait was 1.5 hours! Usually we would never ever ever ever wait that long. But since we had a sitter... we hung out at a nearby coffee house and the time passed quickly! Dinner was super filling (too filling!) and it was great hanging out with another couple. Can't wait until our next date night! :)
Saturday morning was Katelyn's last princess ballet class. Unfortunately both of her friends weren't there that day. Katelyn still had a good time in the class. The teacher attempted to have the kids take some princess ballerina poses. :)
While we were at ballet class, Will took Tyler to the driving range down the street (how convenient!) where they hit some balls and did some putting. I love that Tyler is getting old enough to do these things - especially since it gives them some daddy and me time. Let's hope Tyler and Will will get to spend more time at the range!
After naps the kids went over to the grandparents place to play. Grandma made delicious green onion pancakes - they taste so yummy! Afterward we took a walk around the neighborhood and played in the local playground. The kids had a great time!
Sunday. Big day coming. Tyler had a hard morning - which left Will and I in pretty foul moods. Hopefully he learned his lesson. Just thinking about it makes me cringe. It was a very frustrating day. In the morning we headed to Adventure City in Anaheim. I used to drive by this place all the time when I was commuting from Huntington Beach to Hacienda Heights, but never knew what it was. We were there for Kaden's 5th birthday party. Here's Katelyn and Madison!
One of the amazing things about Katelyn (knocking on wood again!) is that she seems pretty satisfied with eating what we give her. She can't eat a lot of things that her friends are eating, but she doesn't seem to have an issue with it. While the other kids were eating pizza, I gave her the deli meat from the turkey subs... and she was fine!
Here's Tyler and the birthday boy.
Every once in a while, a train would go by and the kids would get super excited and run over to wave. One of these times, Katelyn got shoved in the shuffle and hit her head pretty hard. My poor baby! We got some ice for her and she sat there quietly for quite a while with the ice to her head. Will said that he watched her get shoved from behind...
After lunch, we headed outside for the magic show. It was quite a disappointment.
Rides!
This was a 'kid powered' train ride where the kids crank these handles to keep the train moving. No problem for the older kids...
...but Katelyn definitely didn't have the arm power! I ended up in there giving her multiple pushes. It was a workout for me!
By 2pm we left the party to head to party #2 for one of Katelyn's school friends. As expected, Katelyn knocked out in the car. The party was at the Santa Ana Zoo, only about 10-15 min away from Adventure City. We put her in her stroller when we got there and she slept for a good amount of time. When she woke up, she was quite groggy. We knew, from past experience, to give her some time to adjust to her surroundings. She does NOT like waking up unrested and in an unfamiliar place!
It took some time but she finally warmed up and showed everyone her silly friendly and sociable self.

Hi Kathy! Omg, I don't think I've been on my home computer since Summer. Seriously, I never even turned it on. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your blog again! :) Katelyn is ridiculously grown up now!
Fell off the blog sphere for a while, but glad the Changs are doing well. Kudos for going to the gym!
