Soccer/Tennis, Kareen visits, Easter Egg Hunt... (Week 247/109)

Happy April!  This has been a week of new and exciting adventures for Tyler.  I signed him up through the city of Irvine for some soccer and tennis classes.  I know what you're thinking... at the same time?  I can't help it!  I feel like my days of not working are numbered and I want to expose him to everything that I can!  Katelyn has been her usual bossy self, but she is just so adorable and wonderful that I forget by the end of the day.  She's been talking up a storm.  She'll say things like 'mama, change DVD please?' and show me her band-aid and say "I fell down bike yesterday".  Sometimes it takes a little deciphering but she is putting full sentences together, copying the things that she hears us say.  I forgot this stage with Tyler!

Monday afternoon was Tyler's first soccer class.  We tried this last Summer extremely unsuccessfully.  Tyler didn't like the way the socks felt or the shin guards felt, and when we finally got him over it, he didn't like the way they felt in his shoes!  It was very frustrating and I'll admit I was holding my breath about how he was going to handle things this year.  I had actually planned on only taking him to tennis but Tyler kept mentioning that he wanted to play soccer over the weekend (weird, right?) so I signed him up that same day!   He was SO excited when I picked him up and told him we were going to play soccer.  He told all his friends and excitedly put on his shin guards/socks/shoes.  At the nearby park, he was totally focused and into it.  I was annoyed watching some of the kids goof off but Tyler was totally in the zone.  I was so proud of him!

Video of Tyler scoring a goal.  So forceful! :)  I'm excited that he likes it, and we'll see if he'll play some AYSO this Fall.

Katelyn has been really focused too on what she wants to do.  Lately she insists on helping to wash the dishes, especially standing on the step ladder next to the sink.  I don't know how clean the dishes got but she really rinsed them well!  Can't wait until she starts washing them for real...

Wednesday I was very brave and headed up to Pasadena to see my good friend Heidi and her new 1-month old baby girl Hailey!  It was quite a drive and I feel like I barely made it there in once piece!  It was worth it though, to have baby Hailey fall asleep on me while I held her.  MMMMmmmm baby smell!  It was really wonderful seeing Heidi to and give her whatever advice I could on motherhood!

Thursday was tennis!  The junior class is actually for 5-9 year olds, but I had talked to the coach a couple weeks back about Tyler and he said I could bring Tyler to the class and see how things go.  There is a Parent-and-Me tennis class the city offers that we tried out before, but it didn't seem very helpful.  Tyler did GREAT!  He was obviously completely brand new to tennis but he was focused and kept trying to hit the ball.  Coach Ruben said he did a good job!

Thursday evening we met up with the Fongs and Prokopucks for dinner at Curry House.  The kids were well behaved and it was quite yummy.  How adorable is this little girl next to Katelyn?  I noticed how round K's face is in this picture...hopefully it'll thin out as she gets older!

Friday was Katelyn's Toddler room class Ice Cream Social and then egg hunt.  We were excited to hang out with her and her friends at school.  She loves to pose for the camera!

Love these photos of Katelyn looking at herself in the mirror...

Here's Katelyn and her favorite teacher Katie!

Ice Cream social time!  Of course Katelyn had mango sorbet.

She hung out with her friend Harmony.

Easter Egg Hunt time!  The kids were ready with their little bags!  When I asked the teachers if the kids would know what to do, they all told me that Katelyn would DEFINITELY know what to do.  They tell me a lot about how she likes to be in charge in the class.  For example, when it's time to change diapers and the teachers calls out a child, Katelyn will go to the child and try to pull them over to the diaper area.  Bossy bear!  I heard her tell the teacher "you put my sticker in trash can?" and the teacher was like, "did you really just say that?"

And the egg hunt is on!  K was focused and filled up her bag real quickly.

Look at all my eggs!

Hanging out with her friends.  She's such a big girl!

BFFs Harmony and Katelyn!

Here's Katelyn and my friend Ann.  Ann has a boy Katelyn's age and JUST GAVE BIRTH a month ago.  Her 2nd son Preston has the same birthday as Katelyn (3/3).  I was very disturbed (and depressed) to see that she does not look like she was ever even pregnant.  I can't even comment any more about it because it's too upsetting.  Katelyn was very friendly with her too, we are trying to get her and Grayson on friendlier terms. :)

Katelyn loves to play with older girls.  Here she is playing with Karissa, one of the older sisters.

Video of Katelyn spinning around the tree - some weird game that the kids play?  They always cheer each other on while the other is running around the tree: "go Katelyn, go Katelyn, go Katelyn!":

She had so many eggs she needed a stroller to carry them around in. :)

When we went to pick up Tyler afterward, we didn't see him running around the yard like he usually is.  Instead, he was off to the side of the yard with his friend Kaden playing with the toys they had gotten that day in their Easter hunt.  It was cute to see them so quietly playing by themselves off to the side, but a little worrisome too.

Friday evening our friends Jen and Vince came over to hang out.  They were wonderful playing with Tyler and Katelyn.  The kids LOVED playing with them!  Katelyn kept offering Jen (fake) coffee and refilling her cup and Tyler was super excited to play with them.

After the kids were in bed, we hung out ourselves with Jen/Vince.  They really are an amazing couple and I'm excited that they are planning on having kids in the next couple years.  Jen is doing her residency so it's not such a great time but they have definite plans.  They will be great parents!

Saturday.  In the morning Kareen/Andy/Leah came down to visit us.  It's wonderful seeing the girls hang out.  We had a very full day planned.

We started out at the Macalino's Easter Egg Spectacular.  OMG it was an amazing event!  A ton of people.  How cute are the girls in their little dresses?  LOVE Katelyn's little tulip dress and hello kitty hat!  They were very excited to blow bubbles (I can't even count how many of those tubes Katelyn spilled).

They even had a photobooth with a whole table of props.  You'd take 4 photos and then it prints out the photos with an Easter frame.  It was really cute!

The kids all got Easter bags to decorate with foam stickers.  Katelyn loved her little bag.

Tyler enjoyed throwing around a football with Uncle Andy.

Tyler got busy decorating his bag too - you can see that he spelled out Tyler on his bag.

Wow, it got really hot that day.  Unexpectedly hot.  Good things the kids had hats and sunblock.  Katelyn kept cool with lots of strawberries.

Darn, this is the only picture we got of the 4 of us.  We'll have to try better next time.

Love these pictures of the girls!

Ready for the egg hunt!  OMG there was a ridiculous amount of eggs.  Really really ridiculous.  The kids were so excited as they lined up.

GOOOOOOOOO!

Check out Tyler's crazy full bag...

...and he tries to add more!

Kareen and KK!

Cousin hugs!

Hey, how come I didn't get a picture with the girls?

We stayed longer than we had planned and didn't hit the road up to Rowland Heights until close to 4pm.  Oops!  The kids both took nice naps on the drive up.

Katelyn saw her old exersaucer and really liked playing in it.  She was SO huge in it but insisted.

The kids enjoyed watching Nick Jr (since we don't have it).  Tyler and Katelyn were very attached to Kareen the whole time!  Tyler kept waiting for Kareen to finish dinner so that she would play with him...to a point where he got upset from waiting!

It was good seeing my parents and Lindon/Michelle/Landon.  Look!  Michelle has Landon in my ergo baby carrier!

After dinner, we headed to our friend Jeffrey's birthday party.  It was 8pm - crazy, I know, to be going so late!  But we were already up in the area and the party was at West Covina so it just seemed to make sense.  Crazy night.  Their parties are always very crazy and fun.

I made a new friend that night too!  Lily works at Google.

Whew, it was a long night and Will and I were pretty exhausted the next day from all the activities we did the day before.  We had lunch with Will's parents in Irvine.  After dinner, Tyler was excited to try out his new tennis skills so we took him.  Super cute!  We bumped into our friends the Garners and they played together for a while too.  Katelyn and Kylee were really cute playing together too.
