Katelyn turns 2 and starts Ballet (Week 242/104)

Whew!  This will be our first post of a Monday to Sunday week.  And a very full week it was.  Will left for Atlanta Monday afternoon, and while I am usually quite bummed, this time I was just happy that I wasn't studying anymore.  I was still very anxious to find out about my exams though.

I had dropped Will off at the airport and was chatting with my mom in the car when I got a text that the second exam results were in.  Oh, the anxiety I felt as I as checked my email.  And.. I PASSED!  What an incredible relief.  To be able to breathe, and move on with my life!  And all that studying to not be in vain!  Wonderful! Too bad I couldn't call Will to tell him since he was on the plane.  No one to celebrate with since I was home with the kids alone.

Tuesday I bumped into one of our playgroup's dads when we were dropping off the kids and we met up for lunch to have a mini celebration for passing my exams.  Yum to mojitos!

After picking up the kids on Tuesday, we met up with the Garners for Kids-eat-Free at Ruby's.  Dinner was fun and the kids had a great time.  I used to think that taking the kids out without Will would be terrifying and exhausting, but the kids were so well behaved!  Times like this make me wonder if I am really going to be able to have another baby in the future - the thought of starting all over...

Wednesday I met up with my friend Lisa for lunch at the Spectrum.  It was a very nice lunch and it opened my eyes to some things I didn't notice before.  Lisa is an amazing mom and I hope to become more like her (super crafty and neat and a great cook) - high aspirations!

Thursday, bright and early, I dropped off the kids and went to Mt. High with my girl Mariam for a quick day of snowboarding.  I realized that morning that maybe... it wasn't the best idea since my toe (that I smashed a few weeks earlier) was still quite sore but darnit- I was going to man up!  Thanks to a thermos of sweet tea vodka, we had a great day of boarding and were back in Irvine by 3pm!  LOVE how close we are to snow resorts!

Will came back Thursday night - YIPPEE!!  See, it's not so bad when Will travels.  I think this was the first time though, that Katelyn didn't have a night of sleeplessness that caused me to be up all night.  It always seems to happen when Will is out of town for some reason.  She was wonderful this time around, although every night, before I left her room at bedtime she'd say, "baba?  airplane?"  and she wouldn't let me leave until I told her that Will would check on her later (white lies!).  She missed her daddy!  Good thing we got to Facetime with him every night.

Friday was pre-Katelyn's 2nd birthday!  Will worked from home and I got to sleep in while he took the kids to school.  Look at the cute hair things that one of the teachers made for her!  Vanessa is Tyler's favorite teacher, and she's easily one of Katelyn's as well (even though she teaches Tyler's class).  She's a big fan of Legos and since she knows how much Katelyn loves them too- she made Katelyn hair ties!  Katelyn LOVED them!  She kept them on all day and wouldn't let anyone touch them.

Will and I brought an afternoon birthday snack (sugar free popsicles) for Katelyn's class to celebrate Katelyn's birthday.  There was actually another kid who's birthday was that day (3/2) and his family had brought a special lunch.

Tyler happily waited outside while the kids had their normal snack.  He was preoccupied with my iPhone.

Katelyn looks like she's reading the Toddler room newsletter very intently, doesn't she?

Popsicles!  The kids (and Tyler) enjoyed them very much.

Vanessa even dropped by to visit!

Here's Katelyn with one of her toddler room teachers (Katie) and her friend Brendan.

Katie is a super sweet teacher!

And here's a video of the kids looking very clueless as Katie and I sang Katelyn happy birthday.  I kind of thought they would all join in after we started...but no luck.  Cutest part?  Harmony asking, "more please!" when we finished!

After school, we headed to Disneyland for a pre-birthday celeebration with friends (Saitos and the Mutucs).  Katelyn and Tyler both had a great time, and I love that we are so close that we can do this.

Katelyn loved her birthday button!

Look how light Katelyn's hair is in this picture.  She was watching the parade with Zachary.

Hugs with Zachary.

Group photo of the kids!

At one point the dads took the older kids on the Thunder Mountain, and the moms took the younger kids on Small World.  There was no wait!

She was so excited!

Here's a video of Katelyn at her pre-birthday Disneyland trip:

The moms chatting away..

Tyler and his friends Dylan and Elijah!

By 8pm everyone was pretty tired.  Everyone that is, except Katelyn!  Tyler was complaining of a stomachache, I was drained, and Katelyn was still giggling with everyone.  She has so much energy!  She was in a wonderful mood until we got to the car and then she just about lost it.  Huge tantrum.  That'll teach us to stay out late at Disneyland!

Saturday. BIRTHDAY!  MY little girl turned 2!  It was bittersweet to think about, 2 is officially not a baby anymore, right?  We all kind of slept in before we rushed off to Katelyn's 1st class of her Mommy & Me Ballerina class.  O M G is she not the cutest little girl?  One of her friends at school got her this cute tutu earlier this week (I told 2 of her friends about the class and the moms signed them up too).  We had a little balloon mishap but still ended up with an awesome huge rounded one.  She is so girly and cutesy isn't she??

I love that Katelyn is such a tough little cookie, but at the same time is such a girly girl.  Look at that little smile.

Tyler got in on some photo action as well.

Yay, her friend Harmony arrived!

The girls were excited to start their first class!

Katelyn was SO wonderfully cute during ballet class.  She was such a great* little ballerina.

The class started out with some simple moves to a cute little song.  Katelyn followed on really closely

After a little bit, Miss Independent Katelyn decided that she wanted to sit by herself and not have me help her with her moves.

Then she even moved over more to her friend Kayla!

Here's Katelyn and Harmony.

How cute are these three?  Katelyn and Harmony have birthdays just days apart (3/3 and 3/5) and Kayla (in the middle) is a few months younger.

Pretty tutu time!

Look at her wonderful form! :)

After class we hung out for a little bit outside while the kids played a bit.

Here's a video of KK at her first princess ballet class:

After class, we headed home and the kids had lunch and then their naps.  I headed out to South Coast Plaza to meet up for lunch with my girls Mariam and Trina.  Restaurant Week at Anqui next to Bloomingdales.  Yummy!

After lunch we headed back to our place to see the kids.  Katelyn must have been quite tired out from her ballet class because she slept for a really long time.  So long that the girls had to leave before she woke up.  Tyler didn't mind though - he was so happy to see his auntie Trina!

Saturday afternoon.  Family get together for Katelyn's 2nd birthday!  We tried to get some cute pictures of K with her presents, but she was so excited to open them that we barely got any shots in.  Waaah.

Family photo!  Doesn't Tyler look happy here...

I felt really guilty about not throwing a bday party for K.  Really guilty, especially after the parties that Tyler has had.  I'll have to make it up to her next year.  She loved her hello kitty presents though!

Katelyn with my brother's family!  She fits right in, huh!

Baby Landon is so big now!

Dinner was home made (by Will's parents) beef noddle soup and lots of other stuff.  YUM!

Birthday cake time!  It was quite a hassle getting Katelyn a cake that she could eat (vegan, apparently) but I also got a yummy cake for the rest of us.

Of course had to change her out of pretty dress before she ate it.  Haha!

*move this to the end of the bday photos. Video of Katelyn's 2nd birthday:

My 2 year old Katelyn!  Her hair is getting so much longer now, and still really light!

Sunday was a birthday party of one of our school friends Alexis.  Alexis actually shares the same birthday as Katelyn!  We celebrated at Scooter's Jungle down in Mission Viejo.

That's a giant chair...

Here's a video of the kids chatting after the birthday party:

I still can't believe Katelyn is really 2 now.  She is such a wonderful and bright light in our lives.  Sure, she's getting more stubborn, but her cuteness totally makes up for it.  Everyday we love her even more!
