Hip Hop and Piano Recital and 2 Playdates! (Week 214/76)

Catch up, catch up and more catching up.  This week was my last week of work and first half week of not working.  I was definitely excited and looking forward to the time off and being productive.  You wouldn't believe the house cleaning activities I have lined up.  I'm looking forward to having a little time for myself - studying, hitting the gym, cleaning the house, and of course having the flexibility of doing more activities with the kids!

Katelyn is still in the infant room at ICDC, and these are a few pictures from school that week.  We all know how much K loves her accessories, and apparently she took quite a liking to this hat with tassels at school!  I like the second one with the model pose. :)  She was actually still wearing the hat when I went to pick her up later that day too.  The teachers told me she had been wearing it ALL day, and I was worried that she wouldn't want to part with it.  No worries though! - I asked her to put the hat back and she took it off and ran back to the clothes area and put it down.  She is such a good listener sometimes.

She even modeled one of her own hats in the mirror.  What a girl-y girl.

Meanwhile, this was Tyler's last week of his Tot Hip Hop class.  Thank goodness since I was getting tired of the whining.  I know it seems like I am forcing him to do stuff that he doesn't like if he whines, but I think he's just slow to warm up to things.  Every week he whines and then when he starts participating, he totally gets into it!  Regardless, I was happy that the class had come to an end since he will probably not be the next super b-boy.

The exciting thing about the last day of class was that the kids did their performance for us.  It was quite fun to watch, and funny too since the younger kids (Tyler definitely included) were doing their moves to their own beat.  The teacher told me that Tyler knew all the moves but he wanted to do them at his speed!

2 videos of Tyler's hip hop performance:

Tyler and his teacher!  I think her name was Katie.  She was kind of no-nonsense though, not exactly the best fit (I think anyway) for younger kids who have short attention spans.

This week I also got to get a foot massage with my friend Jen!  We have only recently started hanging out more and we always have great and interesting conversations.  We're trying to plan a double date with our guys because we think her husband and Will would totally hit it off.

Saturday Will and our friend Stacy went to a photo workshop (it was a bday present from us to Stacy) and I brought the kids over to the Garners house for a playdate.  Katelyn LOVED playing in the playhouse that Stacy built in the backyard - it's quite amazing.  The playhouse has wooden floors, drywall and insulation, windows, a tiled roof, and even a working electric outlet!  Amazing!

One of Tyler and Kaden's old school friends came over to play too.  Sutton was in their class for infant, toddler and Pre-1 before he changed schools.  He is a cutie and his older brother is in taekwondo with Tyler.  Sutton's mom Jamie is amazing and I want to be like her!  She is 40 and looks AMAZING!  Plus she is super fun to hang out and chat with.  This was the first playdate where Katelyn was old enough to just go and play with the boys or Kylee.  Before, I always had to shadow her to make sure she was ok, etc.  She even got to sit at the big kid table!

Apparently Kaden and Sutton would get into trouble all the time at school.  They are so mischievous!

My little Katelyn.

An extremely unpleasant CHHEESSSEEE.

Here's Tyler with Kylee and their dog Mochi.  This dog, albeit super cute and friendly, sheds a ton!  I always forget and wear black when I visit and end up covered in dog hair.  She is just looking for affection though, just like Mojo.  Poor pets. They totally get the short end of the stick when their owners have children.

Saturday evening we had an impromptu playdate at the Sundarams.  They just moved into this amazing newly built home in Woodbury.  It is my dreamhouse.  Everyone seems to be moving into new houses lately, and I am starting to get that itch too.  Sigh.  Definitely not a good itch to have.  But is it so wrong that I want to live in a new and clean house?  Not that my house isn't clean, but I can only clean it so much and it'll still be OLD!  Double Sigh.  Oh well, we'll see what happens after I go back to work.  Now isn't the best time to pushing this anyway.  The kids had a lot of fun and so did the adults.  I discovered the deliciousness of Seagram's Iced Tea Flavored Vodka.  Are you kidding me?  That stuff was ridiculous!  It's nice that the kids are old enough to play while the adults enjoy themselves as well. :)

Here's Will playing some Legos with Tyler and friends.

Tyler and Arden.  I love their backyard patio set too.  Jealous.

Arden took quite a liking to Katelyn that day as well.  I really think it's because Katelyn is so much bigger now.  Arden never really paid much attention to Katelyn before, but this time around she was so sisterly and sweet to her.  Apparently she wants a little sister but her parents are totally done (they're also older, I think mom is 40 or something).

The weather was wonderful and the kids played in the newly landscaped yard happily.  Katelyn has a look of "who's pushing me..." in this picture.  That's Zachary.  He's almost 3 I think and Katelyn is heavier than him.  No joke.

The kids were all quite well behaved that day.  Arden kept asking if Tyler could spend the night for a sleepover.  Ooh, sounds like free babysitting night in the future.

Tyler was excited to play with the older boys.  Evan is 6 and Noah is almost 6.  Noah is really good at taekwondo and his parents are really fun to hang out with too.  They're downing Gogurts here.

The highlight of the night (thanks to Will's creativeness) was freeze dancing!  Wow, you never would have guessed how much fun the kids had with this - they totally got down and jiggy with it.  No joke.  Even Katelyn.

Check out Katelyn and Tyler's moves!

We unfortunately didn't get around to getting a group picture (which we almost ALWAYS do) so this was the best that I could get.  It's amazing how much these kids have all grown up - this playgroup started when the kids were just finishing in the toddler room - when Tyler just turned 2!

Dance Katelyn Dance!

Tyler does not look like a willing dance partner.  I think he just didn't want Will to take any more photos though.  They are so cute when they dance together - I can see how much Katelyn adores her big brother and Tyler is quite wonderful to his little sister.

How adorable is that hug between Arden and Katelyn?

Whew, busy busy.  Sunday morning we had a playdate for Katelyn at the Great Park Farmer's Market.  I don't think Tyler could really comprehend that none of his friends were there and that the other two families didn't have any older siblings for him to play with.  It's unfortunate!  But I think it's only fair that K should get to have her own playdates too.  Tyler sulked most of it and just hung out in the stroller and played the iPhone.  Brat.

Video of playdate with Harmony.  Harmony (in the plaid pants in the middle) is a day or two younger than Katelyn and Kayla (the other little girl) is 2-3 months younger.  But oh-my, Katelyn TOWERS over them!  It is unbelievable.  She looks like the jolly green giant, or the marshmallow man from Ghostbusters compared to these petite little girls!

Seriously, she is so much bigger!

Katelyn had a great time though - it's nice to put the focus on her and only her for once.

Group picture!  I'm looking forward to getting to know Sophia (Kayla's mom) more since we didn't really get a chance to chat.

Sunday afternoon.  What a busy weekend wouldn't you say?  Will's parents came down and we went over for dinner.  They are getting better at sticking to speaking Chinese with the kids, but I still have to remind them periodically.  They're our last hope!  Katelyn is super sweet with her grandpa.

Tyler can be really sweet too when he wants.  I'm amazed that there is always some sort of children television show on regardless of what time we are visiting.  Especially amazing since they are using an Antenna for their TV and not cable!

First week of not working!  The week started off with a bang and I met up with Mariam and Trina for a mani/pedi and then lunch at Gyu-kaku in Tustin.  Mmmm lychee saketinis for $3 each during their early happy hour.  You can't really beat that price!

Tyler also had his last day of piano class this week.  Sigh.  We practiced 3 songs over the weekend and even that morning, but I guess I should know that last minute cramming never works.  The kids were all to perform their (very simple) pieces in a casual mini-recital that day.  It was quite a disaster.  Tyler first wouldn't even practice bowing!  Here's a video of his "performance".  I watch myself in the reflection of the mirror and I can see myself getting more and more agitated as he makes mistake after mistake.  Ugh!  Will was there too and he got to see first hand why I always am in desperate need of a drink after this group keyboard class - Tyler doesn't focus!!  Deep breath.  I have decided that I will attempt to teach Tyler piano myself.  We'll see how it goes.

Here's a video of the piano disaster.  It probably didn't help that all the other students were older girls who were much more focused and had practiced a lot more.

Tyler with his very patient teacher.

And lastly, a lunch date with my fellow stay-at home mommies Lisa and Marj!  They are really fun to hang out with too and I'm looking forward to lunching more with them!

Have a good week!
