What a fun week this has been!
Last Friday Tyler went on his first ever school field trip to Pretend City here in Irvine. Will and I used to have a family pass when they first opened a couple years ago, but we didn't go too often. Tyler was really excited to go with his friends and ride a school bus! As you can see, the kids were instructed to wear red.
School bus! Whenever Tyler sees a school bus when we're driving around, he always yells out "school bus!" It's like just an automatic thing that he does without thinking. We got to ride a school bus once for an event where we parked far away, but he had never gotten to sit on one with his friends. Plus it's been QUITE a few years since I rode a school bus - but apparently there are now seatbelts for each seat?
Tyler was ready to play when we got to Pretend City. It's been a while since we've visited so everything seemed new to him. He wasn't even interested in waiting for his friends, so off he went!
Pumping gas...
Getting groceries...
Planting some carrots...
Then watering them!
Playing DJ with Kaden (these buttons actually control the lights/sounds to the stage in front of them.)
Fire dispatch office with Kaden...
Cooking a meal for mommy!
And most important, pulling money out of the ATM....
...and then some more!
Video of Tyler playing with his ICDC friends at Pretend City. That's his friend Kai pushing him around in the little car. They were really cute, they'd stop every so often and trade places.
That's Tyler in the middle playing with the head light of the fully dressed fire-woman!
Had to throw in this picture of our visit to Costco last weekend. They were selling these giant stuffed bears and Katelyn LOVED them! She kept waving to them and whining until I let her play with one, and then she wouldn't let go! This is her holding onto the bear's arm tightly! When we finally put the bear back, she kept sadly saying "bye-byeeee" and waved her hand. Aww!
This weekend also marked Will and my first date night in FOREVER! Last time was July 2010 for a friend's wedding. The kids were in good hands though - my nanny Cheyenne came over in the afternoon and got them right into playing games. Tyler was a little hesitant at first but warmed up quick!
Catch the butterflies Tyler!
Will and I headed to Sunset Beach for an early dinner (530pm) at Captain Jack's. LOVE this place. We had king crab legs and prime rib. The quantities were HUGE and I was totally crab-leg'd out by the end of the meal. Delicious!
A picture right outside the restaurant. Afterward we headed to Bella Terra in Huntington Beach and saw Water for Elephants (I had just finished reading the book that morning!). Really enjoyed the movie, especially since I can't remember the last time Will and I actually saw a movie in the evening! Then we had some cupcake desserts before heading home. Definitely a great night to ourselves and I can't wait for us to do it again!
Ugh. Current problem we are having: our cat Mojo. This cat has an attitude problem and he lashes out angrily by peeing on stuff. It is getting really annoying. We thought we'd try to sweeten him up by getting him some new things at the pet store this weekend. Katelyn was VERY excited about seeing all the fish.
She also approved his new litter box. It's enclosed and opens in the back for easy scooping.
And this is Mojo's new climber/home! We've actually since moved it into his room (aka the laundry room) since we have been forced to keep him in there at night. When we leave him out, he has a tendency to pee on stuff! ARGH! We got a great deal on this by the way, $99 on Costco.com!
Sunday - Happy Mother's Day! Here are the crafts the kids brought home from school. Yes, Katelyn's face is one giant shadow in her photo! That's Tyler holding a bouquet of flowers on the pot. I LOVE them, why is having kids so wonderful??
Will did good (thank goodness) and got me an edible arrangement. Here I am with the kids. Here's the picture from just a year ago - Katelyn has grown so much!
That afternoon we headed to my parents' place in Hacienda Heights. Katelyn got to wear a cute little dress. How adorable is she!
Tyler was very excited to see my dad's turtle Tennessee. We got to watch him eat his lunch (mealworms)!
Love this picture of Will and Katelyn! I think she TOTALLY looks like me when I was a kid...
Curious Katelyn looking outside. She saw Berkeley (my parents' cat) and tried to treat him the way she treats Mojo (hugging/sitting/squashing). Will was quick to stop her since we all know Berkeley is not a nice cat!
My dad also taught Tyler how to draw a pig. See below. I swear, that's supposed to be a pig! Tyler was very proud of it!
Video of Tyler trying to draw a turtle on the white board. Maybe turtles are too advanced for him at the moment...
Katelyn was all over the place their house exploring. She doesn't sit still either!
Last week of swim classes! Tyler has come so far! Here he is swimming with his school mate, Kaelyn.
Kicking with Coach Steve! It is amazing to see what a difference a week makes. He went from screaming and crying to asking to swim more!
Bubble mouth!
No problems going under water anymore.
Kick Tyler Kick! We're still working on him moving his hands and feet at the same time. It's a lot for him to process at once.
Good job Tyler!
He even got to practice jumping into the pool and swimming to an edge.
Ahaha, almost looks like he's walking on water here.
Video of jumping in and kind-of swim. Go Tyler! The coach really stressed a lot of safety issues, like where should you swim to if you fell into the water (the closest place) and stuff like that. It's important to practice good water safety!
BIG day for Tyler this week as well... his testing for his Orange Taekwondo belt! Unfortunately, it came after his swim lesson, so he was probably a bit worn out, but he did so great! We missed the regular 5pm testing time with his fellow classmates since his swim class ended at 5pm, so we got permission to come to the 6pm one. There was one other white belt kid there was well (sitting next to Tyler below).
The 6pm testing started off with some demonstrations by the other instructors. Here's Miss Nicole- she's pretty badass!
And Mr Ben with the nun-chucks. The kids loved watching this!
Tyler and his friend were called up first. Go Tyler! He did SO great - great listening and focusing. I was ridiculously proud of him!
Front punch!
Hiyahhh!
Front kick!
Knife hand strike!
Bow!
And again! He got good air this time!
Good job Tyler!
After he did his form, Mr. Do talked to them while they were still on the floor.
Tyler loves the spotlight and wasn't shy at all!
They were even making jokes!
Silly Tyler!
Video of Tyler for his orange belt test - this is his first form that they did twice.
This is the second part of his orange belt test and the conversation he had with Mr. Do afterward. It was really cute - Mr. Do asked him how old he was and when Tyler said "three" all the audience/parents were like "awww" and started clapping. Good job Tyler!
Whooohoo! Orange Belt!
Pardon the redness on his face - he somehow managed to get sunburned that day at swimming!
This was him showing me across the room his new orange belt. He was so proud too!
Katelyn was at home for most of it with our nanny but since the testing was running late, Will went home and brought her here (Cheyenne had to leave). Katelyn took quite a liking to Arden!
Here's Tyler and Katelyn with Nandi and Arden!
Bathing pictures! Katelyn was so cute and decided she wanted to help wash Tyler's hair.
So helpful you are Katelyn!
Lather well!
Here's Katelyn in one of my hats. She actually tried to put on two of them at once. She's getting so big!
And lastly, some mommy time with my friend Trina at Ra Sushi...
And late night HH with my girls Jen and Mariam!
And we'll end with this video of Tyler sharing his Costco berry drink with Katelyn. The funny part is that everytime she takes a sip, Tyler will go to take his sip and when he's barely got the straw out of her mouth Katelyn is already asking for more! Good job Tyler for sharing with Katelyn - he LOVES that drink!

Tyler was amazing during his taekwondo test!! I loved it!! I especially love his kicks. Hehe so cute! And his little voice yelling. HiyA! Hehe He's really growing up now, I see him with his sister and he's so patient and yielding. I hope Avery will develop that instinct soon. Right now she loves hugging and kissing (germs!!) and telling everyone she loves having a "cute little baby sister" but then Emma goes and whacks her face with her flailing arms and she whines "mooommmyy, Emma hit me!" -_- she's all about the tattle tale-ing lately.
wow, action packed week. nice sharing and cool beans on date night.
