Swim class, ICDC Trike-a-thon, and Knott's Berry Farm! (Week 201/63)

Oh dear, over a week late with this post.  The last two weeks have been full of events and activities, plus Will was out of town this week in New York for work (lucky him)!  I'll get caught up soon hopefully!

This week marked the end of Tyler's 2 week swim class.  What a difference 2 weeks made - I am a strong supporter of the 'tough love' approach, especially for swimming.  Coach Steve even joked about what a difference we all saw in Tyler - he went from crying when his face went under water, to excitedly jumping in and swimming to the side of the pool.  Go Tyler!  Here are some pictures from those last few classes.

Good holding your breath Tyler!

Bubble mouth.  The funny thing is that Tyler will have his bubble mouth all ready to go even while Coach Steve is talking to him and giving him directions.  You'd think he'd wait until last minute to get that bubble mouth so he would have the most air.

Yes, he doesn't match, I know.  He likes jumping in though.

And another bubble mouth with his arms out, just because I am so proud of him.

Tyler even got to swim at the same time as his friend Kaelyn!  Usually they take turns in the pool, but this time they got a special treat.  Kaelyn is SO good at swimming, she had been wanting to get lessons since last year when her older sister started.  It was good for Tyler to see one of his friends swimming so well.  Inspiration!

Friday was Tyler's school's 1st annual Trike-a-thon.  Definitely a good idea since the kids all love riding bikes... so why not raise $$ along with it?  I wasn't too fond of the idea, since it seems like we are ALWAYS doing fundraisers, and I'm paying for his tuition still!  The night before I headed to Target at 10pm to get a poster board, some metallic shiny markers, and some scrapbook stars.  The pickings were slim!  I think the resulting poster came out cute though - the school encouraged the parents to make "elaborate signage" cheering their kid on.  Mine was super last minute, but I think it did the trick.  Plus I made it really generic so I could use it again in the future.

One of the things I love about my flexible job - I was able to go cheer Tyler on at 9am in the morning.  Sigh, things won't be this flexible for long though.  Double sigh.  Lay-offs suck, but on the bright side, maybe being a stay-at-home mom for a bit will be fun?  I was really feeling the idea before but now I'm getting worried about trying to find a job after taking time off.  I don't think the tech industry takes so well to women who stay home.  SIGH.  Anyway, here's Tyler ready to bike!

Tyler's class (Pre-2) went at the same time as the Pre-1 kids.  Tyler had his big bike and was so excited.  Every time they made a lap, a teacher would put a sticker on the giant white sticker on their backs.  The first few laps Tyler was speeding right through before the kids realized they needed to slow down.

Go Tyler go!

Best Christmas present ever!

Waiting at the finish line.

Go Tyler!  (oops, I had bumped the setting on the camera for this one).

The weather sure has been getting nice and toasty.  Here's Katelyn enjoying a nice stroll with my nanny.  How cute is she getting?

Last day of swimming!  Here's Tyler practicing his kicking and big arm circles on the couch of my friends' house.  They have such a nice house and pool - jealous much?  I want a bigger house! hah!

At least he's matching better that day.  I swear, Kaelyn has a new swimsuit almost every day!  The joys of having a daughter... Katelyn loves to dress up too!  She's always wanting to put on shoes or a bow in her hair.  Once the bow goes on, she likes to touch it to feel it's there - I figured out that if I showed her the bow in the mirror, she'd know it was there and then stop touching it!  Now the bows and clips stay on much longer.

Tyler the swimmer!

After the last swim class, we picked up Katelyn (she was at home with Cheyenne) and headed to meet our fellow swimming classmates at Woodbury Town Center for dinner.  Katelyn was very excited to see the big fountain that they have (although probably not as crazy as Tyler used to be with fountains!)

Heehee, it's fun to see the splashing water.

So Tyler's swimming class was just him and Kaelyn (his same age).  Right after their class was Kaelyn's older sister Karissa's class.  Karissa is 5/6ish and in kindergarten - her class was with her friend Alison and this other girl (same age).  Those two other girls have older sisters who are the same age too that are friends.  They're all ICDC kids that have graduated.  Anyway, the point is, that Tyler was SURROUNDED by girls when they were playing before dinner- he was the only boy!

His friend Kaelyn was busy playing with the other girls.  Tyler looked sad and came up to us, and when I asked him what was the matter he said he was sad because Kaelyn wouldn't play with him.  Kathy (Kaelyn's mom) yelled something like, "Kaelyn! Play with Tyler!"  and Kaelyn ran by yelling "no!!".  HMPH!  Poor Tyler!  So he sulked off sadly and sat next to me and watched his iPhone.  Later when Kaelyn was curious what Tyler was doing (and after the girls had finished playing) she came up to Tyler and asked "Tyler, can I be your friend?" and Tyler glared at her and said "No, because you were not nice to me." and went back to his iPhone.    ...  Go Tyler?  At least he doesn't let himself get taken advantage of!  Alison though, one of the other older girls, happily played with Tyler and rolled around on the grass with him.  I LOVE that girl - she is so adorable and sweet to talk to!  She is BEAUTIFUL with her dirty blond hair and blue eyes.  SO CUTE!

During dinner, some people arrived with these two GINORMOUS Saint Bernards.  I have rarely seen dogs so huge, I couldn't stop staring!  The kids were so excited to pet him, and Katelyn had no fear either.  Here she is playing with his tail.

And here are a few more of Katelyn near the fountain.  Doh, forgot to put a bow in her hair.

Uh-oh, warning: mullet?

She's like a little Tyler in this one!

Saturday.  Knott's Berry Farm.  FINALLY!  We bought season passes ($60 for the rest of the year, no blackout dates) and I have been trying to get us to go.  The passes were so cheap that I didn't feel bad only planning on going for a few hours, and luckily we finally had time that weekend after Tyler had his tennis class.  Katelyn is SUCH a girl, she actually brought her pink beanie to Will and tried to put it on herself.  Will asked is she wanted to put it on and she nodded yes.  CUTE!

Crazy Tyler.  He is so NOT a homebody, he's happiest when he's out and about doing something.

We went early enough in the morning that it wasn't too crowded yet and headed straight to Camp Snoopy.  Tyler got to go on a lot of rides - but he wasn't too keen on waiting in line.  Patience Tyler.

So focused and ready to go.  This is that ride where you pump the lever to get your cart to move.  Tyler was excited to go really fast but the girl in front of him was SO slow that they ended up looking like a train, all connected.

Katelyn was great!  She couldn't go on any of the rides so mostly she watched from her stroller or stood at the gate watching Tyler on the ride.

This car ride has the longest line! Tyler loved it!

Here's Katelyn waiting patiently again. Such a good little girl.

Driving a big rig.

This ride the kids can sit inside while the back area has room for adults to ride as well!

Hmm.. getting a little bored I think..

Kid scrambler!

Ooh, and the BEST part of the day?  The mini roller coaster that Tyler and I went on!  The line was quite long for this one, and I was fairly certain that Tyler was going to chicken out right when we got to the front (he doesn't like fast rides), but he totally surprised me and really enjoyed it!  YAY Tyler!!

Family picture with Snoopy!

Me and the kids with Snoopy.  Check out Katelyn's look of terror..

Sunday morning Katelyn had her first official playdate with her friend Harmony from school.  Ok, so it was more of a playdate for myself and Harmony's mom Yoko (we hit it off a few weeks ago at a baby shower for one of their teachers).  Plus we wanted the dads to meet too!  It rained that morning so our original park playdate had to be moved indoors.  Location of choice?  My in-laws place!  They're out of town, and their place is clean and empty (perfect for us, since both Yoko and our homes were not in guest-welcoming condition).

Harmony is half Chinese and half Japanese.  Her birthday is March 5th, just 2 days after Katelyn!

Mmmmm.. eating together, just like at school.  I even got to get together with Yoko later on the next week (Tuesday night I think?) and had a late night happy hour with lots of mojitos and chatting.  It's SO nice to meet another mommy to hang out with!

Hi Katelyn!  Random picture.  This is also the chair that the nanny puts Katelyn in if she is whining and not listening.  She knows to go and sit there!  Good thing she'll sit on it even when she's not in trouble though.

Tyler had his first taekwondo practice with his orange belt!  I was very proud of him, until I realized that pretty much all the kids had gotten their orange belt as well, especially this one kid who is super timid and takes forever to follow directions.  Oh well.  Still, Tyler was so cute during his orange belt test!

I love that Tyler and Katelyn can play together.  Sure, a lot of the times it's Katelyn trying to take away what Tyler is playing with (poor Tyler), but oftentimes I'll see Tyler rushing over to help Katelyn play with a toy as well.  I really do think they have the best age range between them.  Tyler is old enough to help take care of Katelyn and he understands his role as a gentle big brother.

Video of Katelyn playing peek-a-boo!  SO CUTE!

Have a good week! I hope to have the next post up before this weekend (preview: Disneyland!!)
