This is going to be one long post again I think. What's been going on? Oh yes - HEAT wave. I can not stand it, especially when I'm working from home. It makes me so lethargic. who knows, we'll see what happens in the future I guess. SIGH.
Last week we took Katelyn back for her follow up with her pediatric allergist. It was supposed to be just an appointment for him and I to go over the test results, but due to an error (on their part) I needed to bring her in again to get some more tests done. She didn't seem to mind.. yet!
But oh boy was she pissed just a few minutes later! This time the poke test was done on an apparatus that poked her with 10 points at once - whereas last time it was an individual poke each time. Katelyn was caught off guard and got really angry. The picture didn't come out that well, but see that big white hive in the middle? That was for eggs. The hive she got earlier last week for almonds was even worse. Poor Katelyn. She is apparently allergic to everything - even dairy, wheat, soy, shellfish. Ugh. The doctor would like us to try to cut these things completely out of her diet, but I am on the fence. Can she just outgrow it? Or am I going to have to start buying gluten-free products? Dude, wheat is in EVERYTHING! Unfortunately, her eczema has really started flaring up again, I think it's got to have something to do with all the windy weather too!
Girls night out Friday night! Well it was actually a happy hour, which is unusual for me because I usually head out (which is rare enough as it is!) to see my girlfriends after the kids are in bed. This time Will was actually on his own for dinner + putting them to bed! Times like this I am thankful that Tyler and Katelyn have good sleeping habits, especially that Katelyn doesn't put up much of a fight for bedtime! We went to Roy's at Fashion Island.
Saturday morning. Tyler's first tennis lesson! It's Mommy and Daddy and Me Tennis, through the city of Irvine. Just kind of an introduction to tennis, with parent participation. It was during Katelyn's nap time but we decided to bring her anyway. I think this week I'll stay home with her so she can have a nice uninterrupted nap. Plus it was SO windy that I must have sneezed 10x in a row.
Here's Tyler getting some tips on his form from Coach Minako!
Video of Tyler's first tennis lesson. The coach said he wasn't bad considering it was his first time ever picking up a tennis racket! I'm excited for him to learn, and eventually play with us. :)
Practicing tennis drills with Will.
Afterward we thought we'd try to do some hitting against a tennis wall... but Tyler doesn't have enough coordination yet to really hit the ball. We'll keep trying though! But definitely a good job for Tyler - he was focused and a good listener. :)
Park fun afterward! We were over at Turtle Rock on the other side of Irvine. This park had a ton of fields and it was crazy how they were all full of kids playing organized soccer and baseball. So much going on, and there were even kids warming up/running around to wait their turn for their game next! Here's Will and Katelyn.
Tyler!
Tyler and Katelyn together. Tyler wasn't too thrilled about Katelyn sitting on his lap.
After afternoon naps, we headed over to our friend Chrissy's birthday party at their house in South Hills. They really know how to throw a party! This time they had a huge inflated obstacle course and a smaller bounce house. Tyler was CRAZY about the obstacle course - he would run through the whole thing, climb up to the large slide at the end, go down it, and come out running and back into the whole thing starting all over! He LOVED it! I was amazed that he could climb the whole thing by himself.
Look how high it is!
Going down the slide!
Video of Tyler going down the bounce slide - he loves these things!
Katelyn and I just chilled in the smaller bounce house for a while.
She loved it too!
Video of Katelyn and Will in the bounce house:
After watching Tyler run through the obstacle course a few times, Katelyn wanted in also! She's quite fearless.
Back inside, Tyler took a rest and found this cool lock toy - I really liked it - a good way for kids to learn to manipulate objects. Each door had a different type of clasp to open.
Some more sliding with his friend Tiffany!
Katelyn took her own break and played with the water table. You can kind of see the two inflatables behind her. Yes, their backyard is huge!
A picture of me, Katelyn and Will that night! There was a lot of alcoholic beverages involved and everyone had a GREAT time.
The girls team - winners of the relay obstacle course!
Katelyn picked up some pointers as well that night - she happily walked around with her little LV bag. Uh-oh, hope she's not getting any ideas...
Tyler was very engrossed in playing Angry Birds on someone's iPad.
Every time he would pass a level with 3 stars, he'd give Will a happy and very proud face. Kids these days!
We didn't stay out too late since the kids were getting cranky, but it was good seeing my friend Shirley again. Two weeks in a row - it's gotta be some kind of record since our college days!
Sunday we had plans to head to Knott's Berry Farm since we have season passes (only $60 for the rest of the year, no blackout dates!) but the weather forecast was really daunting (HOT HOT HOT) so we headed over to the Garner's for a playdate. Katelyn thought it would be fun to try to grab her own tongue.. I dunno..
Two kiddie pools! Here's Kylee and Katelyn!
She loved it!

Action shot of the kids!
Afterward we gave Katelyn a quick bath in a bucket.
Very ghetto of us no? I knew she was going to fall asleep as soon as we got home and I didn't want all that sunblock sitting on her sensitive skin.
So definitely a full fun weekend. Love hanging out with good friends! :)
Monday! Tyler had his first swim lesson and he was EXCITED! We had been telling him for a while that he was going to learn how to swim with his friend Kaelyn at her house. Yippee - Tyler's first ever swim lesson! He was silly as he waited his turn.
He watched as Coach Steve talked to Kaelyn about 'bubble mouth' and even practiced while he was sitting there.
Video of Tyler's first swim lesson doing some crab walking - just moving along the side of the pool. Not so bad, right Tyler?
Show me your bubble mouth Tyler!
Video of Tyler putting his head in the water for his swim lesson. Uh-oh, he wasn't looking too happy after that first submersion - and he's fighting to hold back the tears! He loses that battle...
This was a photo from before the crying...
So these lessons are 5 days a week for 2 weeks. Day 1 wasn't so bad, but Day 2 (Will took him) was all out crying. Day 3, which was Wednesday, started out REALLY bad...Tyler actually wouldn't let go of me and had to be pulled into the water by the coach - and Tyler had a death grip on my hair and we had to have 2 people pry his fist open. TYLER!
Videos of Tyler on Day 3 of his swimming lessons. Crying. Crying. Crying. Coach Steve calls it "Noise".
We were prepared for the 'tough love' approach though. Is it sad that it's a little humorous to watch your child screaming? Bad parenting.
But then halfway into the lesson, it was like Tyler just turned off the crying switch. He was into it! He started talking to Coach Steve in real words instead of sobs, and instead of screaming when he had to swim he would nod his head. It was amazing! By the end of the lesson, the other mothers were clapping for him. Good job Tyler - let's keep up the good work!
And Tyler has been SUCH a trooper. Both Monday/Wednesdays he has taekwondo afterward too! Double booking, my poor thing. I would have just skipped the taekwondo classes but we just found out last week that next week the kids are testing for their next color belt! Ahhh more stress! But Tyler has been great though... here he is doing a push up for the first time.
Video of Tyler's first push-ups - kind of anyway!
Katelyn always likes to watch Tyler do his thing.
They even did leg stretches this week - Tyler can stretch his leg high!
How cute is Katelyn in her miniskirt? I wish she would just hang out on our laps during Tyler's taekwondo practices though - she is always running around!
This week Cheyenne also took Katelyn out to the park on their walks and brought my camera with them. Katelyn is so independent now - sometimes she just wants to walk next to the stroller.
Yay! Playing on the playground!
She is so grown up now!
Random pictures from the week:
Yes. My nanny lets Katelyn go down these large long slides by herself. I would have a HEART ATTACK!
Love her!
Mojo got a haircut this week too!
And lastly, the thank you cards we made for Tyler and Katelyn's teachers. It's teacher's appreciation week and they had all the kids make one for each of their teachers - then they'll laminate and make them into a little book for each teacher. Cute idea huh!
Have a good week!
