Have you guys been to the Discovery Science Center? It's a lot of fun - they always have cool exhibits! Right now they have BubbleFest going on - we went last year and were really impressed. Of course, last year Tyler was just a baby and I remember nursing him in the audience and him not really knowing what was going on. This year though, as a crazy bubble lover, we're super excited to take him! Will and I got to meet Fan Yang, the Guiness and World Record holder for all this cool bubble stuff!
Here's a shot that Will took that morning. Gayle Anderson (of KTLA morning news) was doing a promo for BubbleFest and we were there to be in the background shots. I think this picture is really awesome! Seriously, if you can, you should totally check out the show, Fan does some really amazing Bubble things!
Tyler is crazy about bubbles. And not really in a good way either. That morning he refused to let any of us hold the bubble dispensers and just walked around spilling the soapy liquid everywhere. Ack! His pants are already starting to get soaked in this photo...
Tyler had a fever this past week too. :( Nothing too serious, but a low grade fever that made him quite cranky. We thought it'd be nice to take him to South Coast Plaza and to meet the Easter bunny (we kind of attempted last week unsuccessfully..). Bad idea. Tyler actually threw up on the car ride there! It was very sad. Then he almost fell asleep. When we got to the parking lot, Tyler had his eyes half closed. I asked, 'Tyler?' and he looked at me sleepily from the corner of his half-closed eyes. "Do you want to see the Easter Bunny?" and he immediately sat up and said 'Yes!'. YAY! .... so we waited in line but as soon as it was our turn Tyler started saying 'No.. no!', grabbed my hand and tried to pull me away. They even let us hang out a bit and let the next person go so Tyler could watch, but the next boy was freaked out too! No luck. Oh well. Tyler did like the balloons though!
His favorite thing that day? Riding the escalators...over and over and over again. He'd even point at stuffed bunnies as we were going up and down, and say 'bunnnny!!' but when I asked him if he wanted to meet the Easter bunny, he'd vehemently say 'No!'. Darn. This past weekend Irvine had a big Easter event at a local park. It was really awesome - it included an Easter Egg hunt, bounce houses, and lots of different activities at booths! I was really excited for a second chance for Tyler to meet the Easter bunny. :) We had planned to have Tyler in his wagon so that we could put all of our junk it, but as soon as we got there, put him in it, and started pulling him, he was yelling 'car! car!' hysterically. We took him back and turned out he had seen his stroller in the trunk (when Will was pulling out the wagon) and wanted to sit in that instead! ?! What the heck? Sometimes I can't believe how opinionated he is about things!
The Easter Egg hunt was really funny though - they had a big field sectioned off by age, and tons of plastic eggs all over. No searching necessary! Tyler had a kick out of filling his basket with a bunch of eggs. I had to secretly dump a bunch since there was a 10 egg max per kid. Not that it really mattered though, not like he got to eat any of the candy inside!
Here's Tyler filling his elmo basket.
He had so much fun running around and picking up the eggs!Tyler's favorite thing that day? This giant inflatable activity thing! At first, we were thinking no way he was big enough to do it, but he was so excited to get in it! Thank goodness parents were allowed in, so Tyler got to give it a go. It included an enclosed obstacle course with holes to crawl through, and ended with this huge slide! You actually had to climb these rungs to get to the top, and no way did I think Tyler could do it - but we were amazed when he was pulling himself up and everything! Tyler's totally growing up!
Here's a shot of Tyler and myself in the bounce house. He was so excited!
Here we are at the top of the slide - I always had Tyler on my lap when we went down the slide - it was so high!
We went with another family - the Smiths, who Tyler is BFF with their son Vincent. They ALWAYS have so much fun together - they just scream and laugh and dance! Here's Julie and myself with the boys at the top of the slide.
The slide was probably the part that Tyler loved the most. He'd be scrambling to get to the top so that he could slide down!
Downside? Having to wait in line to get back on. The line went surprisingly fast, but Tyler has no idea what 'waiting your turn' means, and zero patience. He'd always run right to the front and try to climb back on. He hated waiting! Here's a photo of a really upset Tyler having to wait. I normally don't post pictures of Tyler meltdowns, but this one was too good to resist. Doesn't his expression remind you of those Japanese anime cartoons where the character has just a big "><" for eyes?
Here's a video of Will taking Tyler down the slide. He even let Tyler go down by himself the next time! Yikes! On the last time down though, Tyler had too much forward momentum and ended up landing on the bottom and doing a face plant! (Whew, thank goodness it was soft!). He was NOT happy about that though, and cried for a few seconds. It was probably a good thing though, because I'm not sure how else we could have gotten him away from it!Family picture! Tyler still refuses to sit on Will's shoulders (doh!) - maybe mine are more cushioned? Who knows, but he loves being up there. :)
Here's Tyler and his bff. They had a blast just running around the field chasing and being chased by Vincent's dad Patrick! I love watching them play together - I can't wait until Tyler has a little brother/sister to play with! (no, not anytime soon...)
They had an Easter bunny there that Tyler had no interest in going near. It didn't even help that Vincent was all over the Easter bunny giving him hugs and high fives. I even had to make sure we walked pretty far around the Easter bunny to get to the food area! Awe. No Easter Bunny photo this year! After a couple hours Tyler was pretty pooped. Result? Back on mommy's shoulders. I like this photo since it looks like Tyler is telling me where he wants to go. :)
And lastly, some girl pictures! It was one of my girls' birthday this weekend so we all headed out to Lucky Strike at the District. Bowling, unlimited appetizers and drinks = awesome time! It was bad timing that Tyler was SUPER clingy though and I almost wasn't even sure if I was going to make it - he would literally not let me out of his sight. Not even to go to the bathroom! Thank goodness my in-laws came over and preoccupied Tyler so that I could head out. Tyler loves his grandpa! Here's some photos from the night.
