Tyler really used the potty today! It was quite incredible. :) First, he was playing and we saw him make his poo-poo face. Will asked him if he was going poo-poo, to which Tyler replied 'No!'. Little liar! He totally knows what we're asking, because he'll even tell us sometimes when he has a poop. Anyway, we haven't really be potty training, but just telling him that poop and pee-pee goes in the potty - plus when he sees me going to the bathroom I tell him that Mommy is going pee-pee in the potty, and I point to his potty and tell him that he can do the same thing! Anyway, so he's done pooping in his diaper but then he goes to his frog potty (not the Bjorn potty upstairs) and starts to sit on it. ?! We're thinking, hm, he's already done pooping, but it can't hurt for him to sit on it. So I pull off his pants and sit him on it with his diaper still on. He says, No! - and pulls at his diaper. ?! So off goes the diaper and he gladly sits back on the potty. And then... he peed in the potty!!!! He totally knew! Will and I did the pee-pee dance and he loved it! Then we poured his pee-pee down the toilet, said bye-bye and Tyler flushed the toilet. What an exciting day. :)
Tyler is growing more and more mischevious each day! Here he is caught red-handed shaking the thin trunk of a tree at school. When one of the teachers first came by, he stopped shaking it and just stroked the tree up and down, and then resumed after she left! So sneaky..
Tyler's hair is growing out! Pretty sure there won't be another haircut in the near future, not after what happened last time. The teachers had been giving the girls little pony tails and supposedly the boys wanted in too! So this is Tyler when we picked him up. How cute is that! I still remember Kareen and I having our hair like that when we were little!
Tyler's new fun past time is jumping. Jumping down the stairs, jumping off the couch, pretty much just jumping anywhere. He gets so excited to jump! Here he is jumping around on our couch. He'll say 'Jump!', squat down really low, and then jump!
Another cute thing Tyler does now is count with us! Before he seemed to know only the number two. Everytime we walk down the stairs, we always count, and he would always chime in with TWO but nothing else. Now he'll actually count with us! Also, we're not too worried about him climbing up and down the stairs anymore without our supervision. He's a big boy now! Here he is climbing up - he can do it standing upright too!
Yay! So even though his first haircut was quite a debacle, we realized that he loves playhouses after playing with the little house at the haircut place! They also have one at school that he really likes too. Will and I did some searching and got one for a great deal off Craigslist. Tyler loves it! He especially loves the doorbell that makes seven different sounds. Lately though, he's been going inside it to do his pooping. Also, he'll say: "mama, 'side!" when he wants me (or Will) to sit inside with him!
I love these next couple shots of Tyler in his playhouse hugging one of his Elmos and looking out one of the side windows.
Elmo says Hi! too!
Here's a video of Tyler playing in his house, and mimicing the different doorbell sounds.
It's really cute - now Tyler has his own little house... AND his own little car parked next to it! Now he just needs a wife to complete it. :) I thought this picture was funny because he decided he wanted to play with his car, dropped Elmo, and then ran Elmo over with his car. heehee.
Another cute shot! I think I mentioned before that I got this lion from Walmart on Clearance for $10. It holds up to 140 pounds, and was made for kids to sit on it! Tyler isn't big enough yet to sit on there by himself, but he will give it kisses and hugs!
This weekend was a nice warm weekend, and we got to take Tyler out and about. When we were in our backyard, Tyler pointed upwards and shouted 'Mooooon!' My first reaction was, Moo? Where is there a cow? but then I realized he was acutally pointing at the moon! Very exciting.
The Bowers Museum is free the first Sunday of every month, so we joined our friend Julie and her son (Tyler's bff) Vincent for a fun day. Tyler had just woken from his nap and was being pretty uncooperative in getting dressed. When I asked if he wanted to go play with Vincent, he immediately got up and said 'Yah!' and was ready to go! So cute! Here's Tyler and Vincent outside the museum. Tyler was showing off his cool shades. :)
That day was actually the first time we got him to wear his sunglasses for more than 5 seconds! Usually he'll like to wear mine, but mine are wraparounds so they don't stay on him at all. But the day before he had a great time wearing Will's moms - so he was happy to wear them that day.
Tyler is such a copycat! Vincent is a pro at sitting on his mommy's shoulders - he knows to kind of slouch and hold on, making it much easier for Julie! As soon as Tyler saw Vincent on Julie's shoulders, he started crawling up towards my head. Too bad he doesn't know how to hold on yet, so I had to hold on to his arms. It was really tiring! - and it sucked that he wouldn't sit on Will's shoulders! Poor mommy...
The Kidseum (a couple blocks from Bowers Museum) was free as well and we headed over there. It's basically a big area where kids can do whatever they want, and be as hands on as they want. The boys loved banging all the drums they had. It was nice not worrying about them breaking anything...
Here's Vincent and Tyler doing a duet. There were so many different sized drums. They're both totally into it!
Here's a video of Tyler running around and playing all the different drums!
There was also this ramp/bridge that all the kids really enjoyed. They just kept running through it over and over again. The funny part was that at one end, it was a step down, no ramp, and every time they ran off they'd all take a big spill onto the carpet. And they never learned, they just (Tyler especially) kept running right off and tripping. Thank goodness there were no tears, they were having too much fun, because they'd just get right back up and go at it again!
Tyler is so shy around other girls! Any time a girl gets close to him, he gets serious and stares at them. I think this only happens with older little girls though, he seems to like the older ladies!
We got to check out some of the exhibits also at the main museum. There was a stage area that was empty with a projection playing a film about tribal dancing. The boys got up there and danced around. It was really cute!
Here's a video of the boys dancing on the stage. I don't know how Tyler learned to dance with his hands behind his back! Then he got really interested in looking at the projection screen!
Tyler was very helpful, and pushed his buddy Vincent around in his stroller! We were very impressed when he actually pushed Vincent UP a ramp! - and then directly towards some stairs. :)
At the end of the visit, we all hung out in a courtyard that had a bunch of fountains. Tyler, as you probably know, LOVES water! Him and Vincent were having fun just putting their fingers in the water, until one of them (not sure who...) started throwing the pebbles into the giant bowls. Then they wouldn't stop...
Tyler would even jump when he threw the pebbles in. Water time finally had to come to an end when Tyler completely jumped in and soaked his shoes...
Afterwards we had a little snacktime. Tyler loves these puffs again - even though they're for babies! We can't just give him the puffs though, he has to eat it directly from the container. He really likes sticking his arm allllll the way inside and getting a handful and stuffing them into his mouth.
We also visited a new park this weekend. We have been looking at some real estate in Irvine and came across a private park in Northpark Square. There's a sign that says its private and for the residents only, but we couldn't resist. It was such an awesome park! Tyler LOVED the kid slide. He would go down, and literally be up and ready to run and get back on it before he even hit the ground!
Here's a video of Tyler on the slide - its funny how he runs back to get on it again as soon as he gets off!
It was a very toddler friendly park. They even had an area for really little kids that was fenced off so that the older kids wouldn't accidentally run into them. Tyler played with another little boy in the sand there. He liked the little animal things that he could rock back and forth on, and even a bouncy teeter-totter that was much much nicer than the one we have in our park! We may have to go back... even though we're not residents...
Here's a video of Tyler playing on one of the playgrounds. It was cool, this area didn't have sand on the ground, but rather these rock-shaped rubber pieces! Very eco-friendly and soft. Tyler decided he wasn't going to wait for me on this slide, and jumped in head first!
Across the the street there was a grassy area with giant stone rabbits. Since it was a week before Easter, we figured we'd introduce Tyler to big bunnies before we take him to see the Easter rabbit next week. I've been telling him at home we're going to see big bunnies, and pointing out his little bunnies so we don't have a meltdown like we did with Santa Claus...
Tyler was so excited to see the bunnies and kept say 'bunnny'!', which he sometimes pronounces as 'money!'. Heehee. He got right up to them and inspected them closely. I would ask him to point out the eyes/ears/nose/ears and he'd do it! In both Chinese and English! Yay! He's really good at those parts. We recently taught him eyebrow in Chinese too. I'd teach him cheek if I could remember how to say it in Chinese..
Before we left, Tyler had to give each bunny a big hug goodbye. It was so cute. We're definitely coming back! :)
And the usual girl picture! Sometimes we just hang out at one of our houses - cheaper and just as fun! :)
Tyler's grandparents (Will's side) came down this weekend as well. I just realized that everytime they come down, we always go to YogurtLand! Tyler loves his yeh-yeh so much! He was really happy eating lots of frozen yogurt after coming with us and Will's parents to look at some property for sale.
Tyler also had Korean BBQ for the first time ever! Tyler is a super picky eater, and Will and I are always scrambling to try different foods on him - which he almost always says no. The only protein he seems to eat? Chicken Nuggets! So Will and I try to buy the least unhealthy ones. This day though, with Yeh-Yeh, he was totally excited and loving chewing off a piece of the Kalbi! Yum!
And we'll leave you with a nice peaceful picture. It was such a jam packed full day for Tyler (with a super short nap in the middle) that he knocked out while we were eating dinner. I love watching him sleep. (Unfortunately he woke up later when we were changing his diaper and threw a HUGE hissy fit. Possibly the largest I've ever seen! Ugh, that really sucked.
Have a great week!
