Birth Story!
12/7 Thurs morning- a bit TMI but I had some bleeding this morning. Yikes! Will works from home on Thursdays and we were planning to go to Imari again. I was also starting to have contractions here and there- more serious but nothing consistent. I was still in denial. I was focused on getting pictures organized! That evening was the Woodbury spelling bee- we went to support Tyler's friend Jordan. Yes I was having contractions on and off, but nothing too painful.

That evening Will even went to play basketball while I continued to work on photo organization. Yes, I was feeling more contractions and they were starting to get my attention. I worked on photos until about 1am before I went to bed, and felt contractions even as I went to sleep. I was really hoping that things wouldn't ramp up until the morning. I told the baby that he was going to have to wait until Monday since Katelyn had a violin recital that weekend. Please follow directions!
No luck. By 2am-ish I realized I needed to start tracking my contractions. I had forgotten how unpleasant they were!
Uhoh. It's time. We woke up the kids around 3:15am. They were sleepy but excited! Good thing we were totally prepared!
Our last family-of-four selfie!
We dropped them off at my in-laws and off we headed to the hospital. No traffic at 4am! I was still in a little denial but the contractions were no joke. I was excited and nervous. I had been hoping that I'd be overdue a week or something, haha.

4:40am. Just got admitted. Nurse Jessica checked me and I am 4-5cm dilated. Impressive! Dr Lee is not on call tonight. It's ok, no big deal. The nurse asked I had any religious/cultural customs I needed to follow. I said yes! - I absolutely MUST have my epidural! They started looking for rooms for Labor and Delivery. Apparently there aren’t very many open since they have quite a full house. They gave me my IV - I was dreading this the most since I remember the spot hurting on my hand.
535am. I need to use the restroom but not sure how with my IV. It wasn't too bad going in but it's starting to be sore already. Nurse says that the only room available has a Catalina view.
5:54am. Got moved to the last L&D room. Whew! It’s a corner room with a partial ocean/Catalina view. I can’t see anything from my bed anyway.
7am. Got the epidural from Dr Vu around 6am. He was fast! Got a strange electric zing in my right leg. Nurse Jeannie talked me through the whole thing and I was pretty calm. She told Dr. Vu that my contractions were only 2-3 minutes apart so he was going quick to get the epidural done in between contractions. Definitely hurt but such a relief after the constant contractions! Since I’m GSB+, they also had to give me penicillin antibiotics through my IV. I never had this before and it HURT going in. Seriously, I almost cried. The penicillin really hurts going down. Bad nausea, just threw up!
730. Threw up again and they found my water broke! That’s new also! The last two times they had to break my water. There was a lot of bloody show too. Nurse Janet gave me Zofran and I am feeling much better. (Nurse shift change). They discussed how they are going to really dilute the next round of penicillin since it was hurting so much. They need the antibiotics to be in at least 4 hours before delivery. Will got in some rest.830am. Woodbury called that KK is in the nurse's office feeling sick. Aiya! She threw up apparently. She will stay in there a little bit and see if she feels better. We called back a half hour later and they said they had left a message for grandma to pick her up. We called Will’s dad and he went to pick up kk instead. Poor KK!
930am. 9cm dilated! Wow that was fast. I was thinking the epidural would slow things down.
1030am. 10Cm dilated! Nurse Janet had me do a practice push and said she could feel the baby really close. My epidural is so strong though, I can't feel anything. I couldn't even feel like I was pretending to push! Hmmmm. My legs are super numb. Nurse Janet went to call Dr Lee. I touched up my makeup and braided my hair! And now we’re just waiting.
11:05am. Doctor is on her way! One last selfie! Goodbye tummy! Once Dr Lee gets here it's pushing time! Can't believe it's happening already! It was nice to take a bunch of little cat naps. Can't wait for lunch!11:20. Dr. Lee came in and we got setup. The whole thing happened so quick it was crazy. I’m going to add the video here because it is amazing! I couldn’t feel a thing but some light pressure. I even got to feel his head with my hand when it was out - it was soft and squishy. Next thing I knew, he was out and on my chest! The nurses said this was the happiest delivery they had seen, with mom laughing and giggling the whole time.
After Delivery
Welcome baby Wesley! We have waited for you for so long! 7 pounds 2 ounces, 19 inches long. I think I expected him to be a little bigger? He is close to Tyler’s birth weight and Tyler was almost 2 weeks early! Oh he is wonderful. I got a good hour+ of tummy to tummy time to sniff and smell and cuddle with him. He even sucked his little thumb!
1238pm. 7lbs 2oz and 19" long. Got his 2 vaccinations shots and eye ointment. He only cried a little bit and stopped. Put on breast and happily nursing.
1:52pm A room is ready for me downstairs! Apparently it has a great view! My legs were SUPER numb that I had to use some sort of contraption to get from the bed to the wheel chair. Craziness!
2:26pm All settled into our recovery room.
5pm. Will’s parents arrive with Tyler and KK! My parents arrive about a half hour later - with Yoshinoya! YUM! I was disappointed with the hospital lunch food!
6pm: Stamping his little feet!
Then his first bath!
The first night was tough. Not a lot of sleep was involved. Wesley does not like to sleep in his bassinet next to my hospital bed. I thought the others did. I ended up holding him and nursing him, and then stressing that he wasn’t getting any colostrum. Nurse Grace came at night to do a newborn screening (had to poke her foot) and suggested that I get some rest and she would keep him in the nursery for a few hours. I really needed those few hours to rest!
Dec 9th Saturday
I woke up around 5 am this morning and panicked for a second that Wesley was not in the room. Then I remembered that the nurse had taken him to the nursery for newborn screening. I wandered the empty halls until I found the nursery. I was so happy to see him!
What a beautiful sunrise. I remember will just snoring away.
Back in my arms! We were planning to go home tonight but I have been so paranoid about him not getting any colostrum!
My friend Lisa came in the morning to take fresh 48 photos. Will went to his parents place to pick up the kids.
We have been tracking wet diapers all day, and I was getting nervous since there weren't any! How happy I was when I saw that blue stripe!
