Baby #3 is on his way! And with him comes lots of preparation and changes in our lives. The first being - getting our photo organization back on track and this blog back up and running. I'd feel horrible if we didn't journal his life events the way we did with Tyler and Katelyn. We're going to attempt to change to a monthly format now - the previous weekly format is too much to take on with our busy schedules.
First up, we've been dragging our feet forever on putting up the crib. And now it's finally done! When we moved to Mantle last Summer we had ZERO clue that there would be a baby coming. With only 3 bedrooms, the kids share a room while the 3rd bedroom is an office. Well, now it's also a nursery. My years of Tetris experience helped us fit a crib and rocking chair in there, along with other furniture. I'll post a picture when its all done. It definitely won't be a dedicated nursery like the older kids had, but it'll do the job!
Work has been winding down now that I'm about to go on Maternity leave. My boss wasn't exactly thrilled when I told him earlier this year that we were having a baby. I'll only be gone 3-4 months though, how much damage can happen in such a short period of time? It's definitely a different experience than my maternity leave at Boeing. Back then I could take as much as time as I needed and I don't think it was very noticeable. Now... totally different ball game. I guess its definitely a positive thing that I manage all the developers here and that my absence will be quite significant. I'm not going to let it stress me out though! Had to post a couple funny photos though - there was an office in the intern's office! Apparently everyone in the office is afraid of cute little mice - except for myself and one of our interns Steve.
We even fashioned a little path for the mouse to leave our office. We had called the building managers but they couldn't give us a definite time when the Pest Control person would come. So we took matters into our own hands - successfully!
10/7: Family Reunion for my dad! One of the perks of living near my parents is that we get to come to these family affairs. My dad has 4 brothers and a sister, and this reunion was the first time in 67 years that they were all together. How amazing is that! My uncles from Canada, China and New York all flew in together for the first time. It's so nice to see them all together. Big families are great!
10/12: Katelyn's 2nd Grade field trip to Las Lomas! I jumped at the chance to chaperone, since I knew that my chaperoning days may be numbered once the baby arrives. I love that my job has the flexibility that lets me do this. Hopefully the kids will remember that even though their mom worked, I was still there for volunteering in their classrooms and field trips! The field trip location was not too spectacular though.
10/14: OC Great Park Pumpkin Patch! We have gone to the Great Park every year since it opened for this giant pumpkin patch. There are always a ton of activities for the kids and I look forward to some seedy pumpkins to take home. This year our kids definitely seemed a bit old for the activities, but we still had a good time racking up carnival game points to trade in for prizes. We opted for easy costumes this year - Star Trek! I think most younger kids don't know much about Star Trek, but we take the kids to see every Star Trek movie that comes out opening weekend! Star Trek, Star Wars, any Superhero movie!
10/15: Lunch with my friend Tiff! Always so fun to catch up with her and her husband Brian. We've been friends forever and she is the sweetest girl. She lives in Monterey Park though, which might as well as be a different state! Oh, the crazy adventures we had in High School together!
10/22: And Yes. This Happened. Unbelievable. Saturday morning (10/21) we're all in the car waiting outside Tyler's golf fitness class (we're a little early) and Will gasps and shows me an email on his phone. What the what? He won the lottery for Hamilton tickets for the next day! My initial reaction is DISBELIEF. What!? It is still crazy to me since I never win anything based on luck! Will can be pretty lucky though. Then the hard part - breaking it to Katelyn that she will not be going since its only 2 seats. I was a little miffed at Will though since his initial reaction was that he would take Katelyn. I'll let that slide...we lined up a babysitter last minute and off we went! So glad we already saw it in New York just a couple weeks ago (with amazing front of Mezzanine seats - the Richard Rodger's mezzanine sticks really far out - great view!) and this was a chance to see it again in a different perspective- in the FRONT ROW!
We picked up the tickets early at the box office and then had dinner at Katsuya followed by dessert next door at Pie Hole! Definitely a different take on the show - I must say I liked the Broadway version better but this was so exciting as well! Afterward we stuck around and took some pictures with the cast (didn't even have to wait long!)
10/28: Weekend Trunk or Treat event! KK loves candy, she is always looking for any opportunity to accumulate candy. So interesting that Tyler doesn't like candy at all - he's into Chinese pineapple cakes and Kit Kats. Afterward we had friends over to carve pumpkins! It was a little bittersweet to see Tyler and his BFFs carve their own pumpkins for the first time this year. 10 year olds!!
Will's Hamilton pumpkin is on the far left (impressive eh?) and Tyler's is next to it. The other two are our friend's.
10/29: DimSum with Family. My brother's uncles are heading back home and they decided to come down to Irvine for lunch (my aunt lives here). Perfect for us since its so close!
10/29: Baby Shower for #3! My good friends Bonnie and Lina planned this baby shower for me and wouldn't give me any details at all about what it was going to be like. Literally not a clue. I just showed up to an amazing shower - the decorations and attention were detail were so amazing! I felt truly lucky to have such wonderful friends to support me. This pregnancy has been emotionally pretty tough (nothing like the first two)! They know I'm crazy about grey so they did a grey elephant theme! And I actually found a dress that didn't make me look like a house (bonus points!)
Perfect timing - while I was at the baby shower, our HOA held a Fall Festival in the common area that Will took the kids to. The kids enjoyed the bungee jumping!
10/30: Tanaka Farms Golf Halloween Event! Tyler's Henry Brunton Golf academy had a Halloween event next door at Tanaka Farms. Free pumpkins, whoohoo! KK enjoyed the Hello Kitty theme.
10/31: Woodbury Halloween Parade! More time off work to see the kids walk around in costume. Tyler held the sign for his class (he's the president, you know! hah!). He is such a silly kid sometimes. Behind him, the girl in the pirate costume, is a 'person of interest'. I have no idea what girlfriend/boyfriend means for 10 year olds. She is a sweet girl, I've known her since maybe Kinder or First grade when KK loved running up to her and giving her hugs. Tyler and her will chat online and apparently there is some mutual understanding. I have no idea. Girls are boy crazy and Tyler probably doesn't even really have much of an opinion on the whole thing anyway!
Here are some photos from Tyler's class party (from my friend since I didn't volunteer).
Later that afternoon we met up with friends for trick or treating around Woodbury. Lots of fun as usual! Can't wait to have my drink with me next year!
Miscellaneous Stuff!
Love this story that KK wrote about our New York trip!
Isn't this picture so natural of KK? Haha!
Saw this on the wall when I was walking through the Woodbury library. This little boy was in her 1st grade class last year and she was very helpful to him.
Tyler even got some kindness action in! This story actually made me very proud. Last year there was a boy in his group that was bullying him. I don't use the term 'bullying' lightly - this kid was pretty rude and did many hurtful things. Tyler made it through, although I was a bit disappointed that none of the other boys in their group stood up for him or said anything. He developed a thicker skin and eventually the other boy got bored. Since then I've heard instances of this kid doing the same to other kids. In this case, Tyler saw that his friend got upset and told the bully that he should apologize and what he said wasn't nice. I think being called out was something definitely new for the bully - and even though he said he was only joking - he apologized. Tyler's friend felt better and I was so proud of Tyler for standing up and saying something!
Tyler got into the Journalism class at school. Thank goodness I signed him up early enough to secure a spot. He wasn't a fan (its every Monday from 230pm-415pm) but after the first few classes he is excited! They'll get to work on yearbook pages and the Mustang Weekly (weekly broadcasted segments!).
And lastly, look at this ridiculously cute penguin stuffed animal they are selling at Costco. It looks just like the pet rock that KK made for her class earlier this year!
Oh my gosh! I did it! I wrote a post with photos and captions and everything! Hopefully the next post will NOT be about the baby arriving. Stay in there #3!
