Spring Break Starts: Playdates and Date Night!.. (Week 298/160)

Farewell March!  This week marked the first week of Tyler's 3 week long Spring break.  And we were going to be busy!  Started out on Monday with a playdate at Cypress Village park with my friend Connie and her son Xavi.  Xavi and Tyler used to be in preschool together and Katelyn and Thalia (Xavi's little sister) are in the same Pre-1 class right now (but different schedules).  Katelyn had her Chinese school class that morning at the Cypress Village community center so we planned it out great.  I ran some errands with Tyler and then came back to hang out in Katelyn's class a bit before meeting up with Connie and Xavi in the park outside.  The kids had a great time!

Christine was picking up Liv at the same time and we invited her to join us and play for a bit.  it was a nice impromptu playdate and the kids got to unleash a lot of energy.  Great way to start off the week!

Will left early early that morning for a business trip to New Jersey so I was on my own for the first half of the week.  I used to complain and gripe every time he traveled... actually I still do!  But now I just deal with it.  The kids and I had Japanese food for dinner at Gen.

My friend Bonnie and I arranged to have swapping playdates this week.  Tyler would go over to Jordan's house on Tuesday and Jordan would come over to our place on Thursday.  Perfect since it meant I had the morning to myself while Katelyn was at school.  Bonnie texted over a photo of the kids having a great time.

After Kumon, Tyler and I picked up Katelyn from ICDC.  Not sure how it happened, but one of his old Pre-4 teachers asked him to read a book to the current Pre-4 class.  Super cute!  The kids wanted him to read louder though, and I could tell Tyler was a little uncomfortable but he did a great job!

Video of Tyler reading:

KK listened happily with the Pre-4 class.  I swear, she already thinks she's in this class even though it's a whole year+ away.   And only if we keep her at this preschool.  Afterward she showed me her hopscotch skills.

And then Tyler helped her build some crazy tower, then helped put all the blocks away afterward.

Dinner that night was In'N'Out and then Pinkberry for dessert.  Yum!

When I picked up Katelyn on Tuesday, I asked if they had an extra spot for her on Wednesday to come in to school ($50 for the day) and they did!  They usually don't though.  I wonder if word that I was considering pulling her out was getting around.  Anyway, Tyler had iCamp that day with his friends (Jordan, Brady, Joshua, and Elijah).  This meant I unexpectedly had almost the WHOLE DAY TO MYSELF!  OMG I can't remember the last time I had a day like this.  I went to the gym, ran errands, took a nap, etc.  It was wonderful.  Especially since Will had been out of town for a couple days already.  Picked up Tyler at 3pm and met up with my friend Laura at nearby Heritage Park where her son Justin was taking tennis lessons.  Tyler and Justin were on the same basketball team this past season.  It was good catching up and the boys got to play a bit after Justin's tennis lesson ended at 4pm.

Had plans that evening to pick up Katelyn from ICDC and meet my friend Yoko and her daughter Harmony (Katelyn's ICDC BFF!) for dinner..  But totally ran late since we stayed at the park so long.  Oops.  There was also a family fun night fundraiser that night at Chili's that we opted out of since it's always so hectic.  Met up with Yoko/Harmony at the Tustin District and ate dinner at Mobtown Pizza.  Not the best pizza place but each booth has it's own TV so the kids could watch cartoons and keep themselves occupied while Yoko and I enjoyed some wine!  (We did this the last time Will was out of town last month too!).  As luck would have it, another one of Katelyn/Harmony's friend's - Ava - happened to come to the same restaurant with her mom Lisa and brother.  We invited Lisa to stay with us and we all had a nice dinner playdate out.  With wine.  More wine.  Yoko's husband Phil even dropped by for a bit.  Somehow, after dinner when I went to the bathroom, one of the moms allowed the kids to take off their shoes and put their feet in the fountain outside.  I was a bit horrified but didn't say anything.  The germs people!!!  My kids have NEVER BEEN ALLOWED to do this and it would never have happened if I was out there.

While I was chatting with Lisa on one side of the fountain and Yoko was with the kids on the other side... Katelyn fell in!  AAAACCCCKKK!!  I heard a panicked yell of "KATHY!!  Katelyn fell in!!" and ran over to see a soaked Katelyn being pulled out by Yoko.  Gulp.  She was crying since it was so cold but then KK assured us that "I hold my breath!" and showed us her mouth closed with her cheeks puffed out.  She also showed us that she did some doggy paddle like strokes.  Now I'm questioning if she fell in or jumped in!  Luckily I was parked pretty close and had back up clothes and ran to get them.  Came back to a naked Katelyn happily cozy in Yoko's fuzzy fleece.  She didn't even want to take it off!

Even after getting her into dry clothes she insisted on wearing Yoko's jacket.  Check out the silly face she gave me when I took a picture of her.

Fun night for the kids - aside from the fountain incident.  In hindsight, there was probably too much wine flowing.  Thank goodness Will got home late that night.

On Thursday Katelyn had ICDC and Jordan came over in the morning for a playdate.  They played for a while before I finally gave in to letting them play a Power Rangers video game on the Wii that Jordan had brought over.  Poor Tyler never gets to play video games - only at Jordan's house earlier this week.  He was SO excited!  They played for like 2 hours straight, it was ridiculous.  But they had so much fun!  Bonnie came by at noon to pick up Jordan and they still had a ton of pent up energy that hadn't gotten released.  Oops.

Later that afternoon I took Katelyn to ballet.  How pretty is her new ballet dress?  She was modeling it in the wind for me, haha!  Tyler really wanted to come to ballet since he knew he would get to play on the iPad. He had to do a lot of kumon that afternoon to convince me to bring him since Will was working from home that day and he easily could have just stayed home.

Pretty ballerinas!

On Friday I had planned to take Tyler with me to a Pilates class after I dropped Katelyn off at her little Chinese Preschool.  After chatting with the teacher, she agreed to let me drop off Tyler there as well.  SWEET!  I made a mad dash for my Pilates class and didn't need to worry about Tyler being bored there.  They said he was so well behaved.  He wasn't too much of a fan of being there, but he said he would look after Katelyn.  Upon picking up the kids, coincidentally there was a playdate going on at the same park of she-who-shall-not-be-named and a couple other boys.  Very coincidental since she had just found out the week before that Christine and I pick up our girls at noon from the community center.  Tyler had seen his friends playing while they were outside for a quick recess break and insisted on playing with them.  Darn.  Christine and I texted back and forth if we should try to avoid the whole thing but ultimately the kids won and we ended up at the park with the other group.  A little awkward but I can definitely play nice!

The kids came home super dirty and covered in sand.  Had to give them a quick rinse off before I put them in bed for their naps.  Thank goodness for naps!

Nice and clean Katelyn in a super cute little romper that used to be her cousin Annie's.  I'll never understand these rompers - they required the girl to take the whole thing off to use the bathroom!  But they are super cute, aren't they?

Saturday had plans to go to the SD Zoo but laziness won out.  Instead we hung out at home and then checked out the Grand Opening of a new Montessori in the Woodbury Town Center.  The place was HUGE!

Then we headed over to the Garners to drop off the kids.  I had originally booked Vanessa to watch our kids tonight since we were going to go up to LA to hang out with Tiff/Brian and Mirei/Jimmy.  But our plans were postponed and I didn't want to give up our date night!  So we decided to date night with the Garners and Vanessa watched all the kids.  We are such old folk though - we headed back to the fancy movie theater that we had gone to on Valentine's Day and watched a 5:30 showing of Oz.  Old folk are we!  After the movie we couldn't really decide what to do so we headed back to the Garners (back by 8ish?) and hung out there for a bit.  Inexpensive easy fun!

My dinner that night at the dinner was SUPER tasty.  Much better than last time.  I'm getting hungry just looking at it again.  Arugula arugula arugula.  YUM!

Love the Garners!

Vanessa texted us a couple photos of the kids having fun that night.  They had a great time!

Sunday was Easter.  We're not religious in any sense, and spent the morning with Will's parents.  They made yummy food for the kids and us (as usual)!  Their green onion pancake can not be beat.  It's exactly the way Tyler and I love - soft and doughy!

Back at home Katelyn really liked that Mojo chose the clean clothes laundry hamper to take a quick nap.  Heehee.  She pounced on him when he got out and insisted on putting him back in.  Poor mojo!

And one last video of KK spelling her name:
