I was NOT looking forward to this week. Monday was President's Day and the kids were both off from school. Not such a big deal except that Will left super early that morning for a business trip to New Jersey, not to return until late Thursday night. He just went on a business trip 2 weeks ago!! Boo. On top of that, I have Katelyn's birthday party looming on the horizon and the stress was starting to get to me.
Monday started off with a park playdate with my friends Connie, Janet and Christine. Connie and I both had our husbands on business trips this week so it was a perfect time to come together. Add Janet and Christine and we had a fun busy morning at the park. The kids played wonderfully together.

After the park, Connie and I headed over to Jeffrey Plaza for lunch with our kids. We went to Lollicup and the kids enjoyed a lychee slush and popcorn chicken. They enjoyed chasing the ducks around in the mud too - until Katelyn tripped and got covered in mud. NICE. Things were salvaged though, with the performance of lion dancing. Apparently Chinese New Year festivities continue on even after the actual Chinese New Year and these lion dancers were going from business to business in this strip mall wishing good fortune or whatever. The kids LOVED watching it. Super loud drums though.
The college kids / teenagers part of the lion dancing troupe had a good sense of humor too. They would play with the kids and pretend to fall asleep or shake their butts at them. Super cute.

What a busy morning! Kids napped nicely that afternoon. ... Until Tyler had some stomach issues -diarrhea, to be specific. I had no idea that this was going to be just the start of a long week. Katelyn was fine though, and was so excited to do some 'Kumon'. I had made some copies of Tyler's super old packets and she loved drawing lines on them.
Tuesday was ICDC Spring Cleaning day, which meant another day off for Katelyn. Tyler woke from his nap on Monday with a slight fever and feeling really listless. Uh-oh. Gave him some medicine and it seemed to help. But then there was a lot of diarrhea. Constantly. Poor kid. Made the decision to keep him home from school on Tuesday. The kids were excited about going to Mitsua for lunch though, they love the Ramen there. Perfect since it was SO cold that day!
Tyler insisted on going to Kumon after naps. I think he was getting a little stir crazy from not going to school that day. I had to bring Katelyn with me (usually she is in school) and she had fun playing with the other kids.
Picked up Kaden from CDC since his mom Jen was running late getting her tires changed. Look, we're totally breaking the law - Kaden's not sitting in a carseat! Good thing we were close and I drove slow. The kids played happily together until an accidental incident with a light saber. Tyler totally lost his temper and I was embarrassed that he totally overreacted in the situation. Must really work with him to control his rage!
Wednesday Tyler was feeling much better. Heck he seemed totally better on Tuesday! Off to school he happily went. Just in time too, since Katelyn had her first girls-only playdate at my friend Christine's home. All the boys are in Kindergarten and the little sisters are always tagging along, so it was so fun to have a playdate just for the little girls. Of course the mommies all to hang out and chat too! This was the lunch set out and waiting for us when we got to Christine's house. I almost died it was so delicious and healthy. Ridiculous. Why can't I do this??
The girls were off playing with each other and also dress up. Super cute. Totally relaxing since I really needed some time off with Will out of town.
Picked up Tyler from school and he was still bummed about his swollen pinky (casualty of the previously mentioned situation the night before).
That evening we met up with my friend Yoko and her daughter Harmony (Katelyn's ICDC BFF) for dinner at the District. We went to Mob Pizza, and I'm SO glad we did. I wouldn't say their food is anything too spectacular, but they have TVs at each booth! The kids were stoked to have their own booth and watch cartoons while Yoko and I hung out and sipped wine. Sweet! Tyler was starting to be quite moody and clingy again. His bowel movements were all still diarrhea. Doh.
Thursday. Katelyn went off to preschool and Tyler stayed home again. Oh did I mention that Katelyn had thrown up a little? I was bracing myself for it to get worse but she seemed totally fine. Tyler, on the other hand, was tired and moody and not happy about constantly running to use the bathroom. To cheer him up we headed to Boomers for a little fun.
Thursday afternoon Katelyn has ballet class. My plan was to wake Tyler from his nap to pick up Katelyn by 4pm in order to get her to ballet class at 4:30pm. When I went to rouse him from his LONG nap at 330pm, he totally freaked out and was super grumpy. I tiptoed out of the room and decided that it was NOT going to happen. Jen and I were texting about Tyler's finger and I mentioned that I was bummed that I couldn't take Katelyn to ballet since makeups are quite a pain. Here's to friends coming through! Stacy ended up picking up Kylee and Katelyn from ICDC, stopping by our place so I could quickly change Katelyn to her ballet clothes, and taking both girls to ballet class! Kylee isn't a student there yet but she gladly joined in and had a free trial class. Perfect! Jen came by afterward with Kaden and the kids had a mini playdate.
Later that night Will was back home and I was SO relieved. Tyler was still having diarrhea though. Poor kid! I think Will worked from home that Friday which was really helpful since I had many errands to run before Katelyn's birthday the next weekend.
Saturday morning we did a make up for Katelyn's ballet class (we missed a class last week on Valentine's Day).

After the ballet class in the morning, I took Katelyn to ICDC's Annual Art Fair. Will stayed home with poor diarrhea-prone Tyler. It was a good time!
We had a date night planned for Saturday night with 2 other couples, and our usual babysitter Vanessa wasn't available. We were planning on celebrating Will's dad's birthday on Sunday so Will's parents were coming down Saturday. Crossed our fingers and asked them if they would be able to watch the kids (mind you, they NEVER watch the kids). They agreed and we pushed our luck a little further by asking if the kids could spend the night! The kids are always asking to take naps over there but we always insist on taking them home to nap since we dont have any of their normal nap routine stuff there. This was a perfect opportunity! Plus it was free (Will's favorite part). Dropped the kids off and they were all smiles to spend the night. And Will and I had the NIGHT OFF!!! The last time we had a night off was in April of 2012, the day of my friend Tiff's wedding. Seriously, that was the last time the kids spent the night over there.
We headed off to Santa Ana (I know, but it was a hip part of Santa Ana!) and met up with our friends at a restaurant called the Crosby. Great fun night. Love these gals!
Headed down the street to Chapter One (a local bar) for some after dinner drinks before turning in for the night. Weird to have the house to ourselves, but must enjoy it!
Picked the kids up the next morning to take Tyler to Chinese school. We also had to run around to get items in preparation for dinner that night. Will's parents and my parents were coming to celebrate Will's dad's birthday as well as the Chinese Holiday it was that day (something about soup ball day). I made (successfully too!) the delicious salad I had had at my friend's place earlier that week. Will made prime rib. We also made bacon wrapped green beans and little fruit tarts. All turned out delicious!
Happy Birthday Grandpa!
Great seeing the grandparents, both sets! Tyler was being quite bratty and angry (he's had such a bad temper lately) though.
