Birthday Parties and Playdates!... (Week 289/151)

Another week of fun!

Every Tuesday, Tyler's friend Jordan comes over for a mini playdate after school.  They always have fun and are so well behaved together.  I like that Tyler always looks forward to his friend coming over, and also gets excited about going over to Jordan's house on Thursdays.

This week we also said goodbye to Katelyn's high chair.  My baby is growing up!  It's a good thing though, high chairs are so hard to clean!  We got her the same chair as Tyler and convinced Tyler to let her use his booster seat.  It took a little convincing, but with a nice little cushioned seat pad from Walmart, he made the transition.

Basketball practice Tuesday night.  Freezing!  Love the cold weather, but being out at night is not so great.  Tyler loves basketball though, and I'm looking forward to him continuing on.

Afterward we tried out a fancy little Mexican place in Orchard Hills for the first time.  My salad was quite delicious, except for the fried onion strings that I had felt compelled to eat all of!  It's a nice little plaza that I had never even been to before, and really close to our place too.

Accident report!  Somehow the basketball hoop the kids used during practice fell down and hit Tyler on the forehead.  Ouch.  Poor kid got quite a bruise and bump.  There was some crying from Tyler, but I was SO proud of him when he buckled up, stopped crying and went back to practice with his friends.  Go Tyler!

And, Yay, a last minute saketini night with my friend Yoko.  I need these nights for my sanity, plus the kids are already in bed so there's no guilt there.  Always a great time with Yoko!

On Thursday, one of Tyler's friends (Kobi) had his dad come in to talk to the kids in their Kindergarten class.  The kids were so excited to meet an Irvine Police Officer, they were mesmerized and asked him a ton of questions.

They even got to check out the back of his police car!

Thursday night was ballet class for Katelyn.  We decided this week to officially sign Katelyn up for ballet at Southland Ballet Academy.  We were going to wait until February but since we changed our Mammoth plans we were free Thursday night after all.  Katelyn was so excited, especially since her friends Mason, Kendall and Liv were all going to be in her class.  Cutie pie!

Two videos of KK at ballet:

Note to self: need to expose Katelyn to more music!  She loves pretending to play the piano like Tyler does.  I wonder if I can possibly start teaching her piano on my own... she's got the fake violin playing down though.  Please excuse the fact that she is holding her bow on the wrong end.  The blasphemy!

Yay for the weekend!  Friday we dropped the kids off at the Garners with Vanessa babysitting.  We were headed out to celebrate Jenn's birthday at Plush Karaoke Lounge at Diamond Jamboree.  The kids love Vanessa and all the toys the Garner kids have.

Off we go!  Our reservation was at 7pm, which apparently is when they open.  We're like senior citizens, haha!  I haven't Karaoke'd in a million years, seriously, I can't remember the last time we went.  No clue.  College?  I was a little worried about the fun factor, but was game since Jen loves to Karaoke.  Turns out it was REALLY fun!  Especially since we had a small group of 6 and I actually felt comfortable belting out my favorite songs (including every Bruno Mars song they had), haha!  We were out surprisingly late but had a great time.

Saturday morning.  Basketball!

We headed over to Will's parents' place for a quick lunch afterward.  Kids always have a great time playing with their toys there.

After naps, we headed out to West Covina to celebrate Jayden's 3rd birthday.  These parties are always a ridiculous amount of fun.  We went in knowing that we couldn't stay too late since Will had a 7am flight the next morning to New Jersey (WAHHH!).  It was a Clipper themed birthday party, hence all the Clipper wear.

Totally random, met a friend's sister in law at the party, and she turned out to a friend of my older sister from high school!  Small world!

They even had a caricature artist there as well.  I was so excited, I've never had one of these done, EVER!  How cute are Katelyn and I in our little princess dresses?  The kids had a field day with the balloon maker as well.  I'm telling you, love these parties!

Always great to see good friends.

Pinata time!

Even extra fun - they had the food truck Seoul Sausage there.  Amazingly delicious - their kalbi sausage was ridiculous!  The guys from the Food Truck were great too, younger than us, and even partied with everyone!

Oh, did I mention there was a bartender at the party as well?  Haha!

There were quite a few kids there and they all enjoyed themselves, even playing Bingo at some point!

Katelyn and the birthday boy Jayden!  They're only a month apart.

They had one of those huge inflatable obstacle courses in the backyard - I made sure not to participate in the relay this year.  I ended up with some skinned elbows before.  There's usually a shot that has to be taken right before too, not a good combination!  Will participated (sans the shot of course) and was on the winning team!  They all got Seoul Sausage t-shirts as prizes.

We made it home at a reasonable hour that night, and Will left super early the next morning.  Waah.  Hate it when he travels.  Tyler had a birthday party that afternoon, and for the first time ever, I enlisted some help from Will's parents.  After Chinese School we headed over to their place for a quick lunch.  Katelyn was all ready to take nap there, she was so well behaved!  I left with Tyler as they were putting her down for a nap.  Perfect!  Tyler took a little nap on the way to Huntington Beach's Chuck E Cheese's where we celebrated his friend Kobi's birthday.  I've never been much of a fan of Chuck E Cheese's, and I definitely didn't want to be running around after Katelyn there either.  But with Katelyn with the grandparents, I was free to hang out with the other moms as Tyler ran around with his friends.  Perfect!

He even got to go into the ticket collecting booth because Kobi didn't want to.  He was so cool and calm in there, totally took me by surprise.

After picking up Katelyn from the grandparents, we headed over to my friend Tram's place in Northpark for a authentic pasta making night!  A friend had a houseguest visiting from Italy that treated us all to authentic Italian pasta.  Quite honestly I thought it tasted just like Chinese thick noodles.  The kids loved it though, especially Katelyn, who couldn't get enough.

Best of all, the kids played with their Kumon friends, and I got to have a break too.

We even celebrated one of the dads' birthdays as well.

Whew, that was a crazy weekend.  A lot of running around, but still lots of fun.  Now to prepare myself for the upcoming week.
