Exciting big week - Tyler started Kindergarten! I kept him out of school on Monday in hopes of taking him to Legoland, but my plans were foiled when I woke up with a horrible crick in my neck. Gahh! We ended up spending the day together just hanging out, it was nice and enjoyable.
Tuesday morning, bright and early - Kindergarten! Even though Tyler has the "late mustang" Kindergarten schedule of 10-1:20pm, all the kids did the "early mustang" schedule of 8-1120am on the first day. I thought this was going to cause unnecessary confusion for the kids - especially since Tyler had friends in the same class but in the early bird session. Oh well, they'll adapt! Here he is ready on his first day!
When we got to Woodbury, it was quite mayhem. So many kids and parents. We didn't even really know what where to go. Tyler didn't seem nervous at all, in fact he was downright excited and READY. He would continually ask me if it was Kindergarten day yet.
Big day for mommy too!
Tyler was assigned to Mrs. Wang's class. Good thing he knew two other kids in the same class - Jordan and Elijah (even though they were both on the early schedule). It made the first day so much easier and go so smoothly.

The kids were led off to tour the school while the parents were invited to a little coffee/breakfast social in the main courtyard hosted by the Woodbury Dad's club. Lots of mingling and chatting with friends that we knew. There are a handful of kids that we know coming to Woodbury this year, and it's nice that we know other parents.
After the social hour, we headed to our individual classes for a parent orientation. Unfortunately Tyler's assigned teacher Mrs. Wang had just found out some serious medical condition the week before and we were now assigned a new sub/teacher Mrs. Vose. Cute young blond girl - no problem for Tyler to like! When we finished the orientation the kids were lining up outside ready to come in. Look who was first in line!

Class ended at 11:20am for all kindergarteners that day and I snapped this photo of Tyler and his buddy Kaden afterward. Kaden doesn't have any old friends in his class, which is probably a positive thing since he can be more challenging and a fresh start is always a good thing. How cute are they?
We have Tyler signed up for a part time CDC slot, same cost whether 2-3 days a week after school. It was mainly to make sure that he would have a spot there when I go back to work. (ugh, I am so at a loss of what's going on with that right now!). Anyway, his after school care goes from 1:20pm up to 6pm. I still drop him off at 10am though. That day I picked him up when school ended and we enjoyed a nice lunch with the Saitos. Day 1 of kindergarten was a success! Later that afternoon we headed to Kumon. I am in love with my friend Hannah's daughter Norah. She's mixed and I think she is the most beautiful thing EVER! Tyler is going to have to marry her. Seriously. The cutest thing is that she totally speaks Chinese to her mom. LOVE!
Here's a photo my friend snapped of the first picture of the Kumon Mom's Club (KMC)! We're all Tiger Mom Light. heehee.
We're a little weary of things this week since it'll be the first time that Tyler will not get to regularly nap everyday after lunch. I could tell he was getting tired already in the evening, and we're going to try to remember that when he starts acting up. (Hopefully we'll remember anyway!).
Wednesday was Taekwondo. I let him each lunch at school and picked him up at 3pm. Not much time that he's there, especially since the late schedulers eat lunch from 1:20-2pm and then go off into the field with the under Kindergarteners to play. He wasn't too focused that day at TKD, I'm blaming delirium from the lack of a nap! Video of Tyler doing board breaking:
The rest of the week went off not too bad. Wednesday the kids all went back to their normal schedules. Tyler doesn't start until 10am! Will was gracious enough to drop Katelyn off at school this week so that we could get used to our new schedules. My favorite part - having Tyler finish his Kumon first thing in the morning! Not the easiest feat (by far) but I love that it frees up our evenings. Tyler had a hard time understanding that his friends were already in class (started at 8am) and that he didn't start until 10am. He clung to my leg shyly as we waited outside the door to start class. Ack! I am not a fan of that! Thank goodness he saw his friends inside when they started letting the late birds in (there is a 1hr20 min overlap of the two classes), brightened up and went right in! Thursday was the same with the clinging, but then more brightening up once he was able to go in. I met some of the other moms as well - looking forward to getting to know them more. Thursday night he was so tired that he almost fell asleep on the way home from picking up Katelyn - we put him down to bed by 7pm without any fussing from him. He's so behind on his sleep! Friday I was worried since he had soccer but he did great and even scored a couple goals - YAY Tyler!
Saturday. Started early with Katelyn's last swim lesson. Loves it of course, but she didn't want to go down a dark tunnel slide.
Tyler occupied himself by taking some self portraits too.
Video of Katelyn at her last swim class:
After swim class we headed over to Santa Ana (a kind of scary area if you ask me...) and picked up my niece Annie! Annie and her little brother Adam have been staying with my parents for almost 3 weeks and I thought it would be nice for Annie to hang out with us for a night. She is so sweet and wonderful mostly with her cousins, not so sweet and nice to her little brother though. :( We went to Costco to pick up some items for the big playdate that we had that night, and also a new swimsuit for Annie since my parents had forgotten to bring her backpack of supplies! Doh!
After naps (I had to rouse Katelyn and Tyler barely slept) the kids were ready for the lagoon!!
The lagoon playdate was a little different from our usual lagoon / large playdates in that we were celebrating our Pre-4 teachers - Tyler's old teachers! Our core playgroup all have kids the same age, so they all had these wonderful pre-4 teachers at ICDC. Even Katelyn LOVES them. It was great to see them ouside of the school environment and having fun. We drank almost my entire huge bottle of Sweet Tea Vodka! The kids had a great time with their teachers and friends.
Video of KK and Asheley on the lagoon slide. Ashley was one of Katelyn's teachers when she was in the infant room, and then she was Tyler's teacher in Pre-4! They are great:

I love Tyler's Pre-4 teachers! Sometimes I think they some of the very few wonderful teachers at that school. I have been a bit frustrated with Katelyn's Pre-1 teachers. They haven't been showing a lot of compassion and support for the kids. But I also understand that I'm a parent and I may overreact to certain situations. But still...
Tyler loves playing with Elijah. He is a really good kid, a little shy to new people but one of those kids you just know are good-hearted.
The moms picture!
Big group shot! Love this group of friends (well most of them anyway)...haha!
Before dinner, the kids had all changed out of their swim gear. After dinner, some of them changed back in. Tyler was in a t-shirt and shorts and kept getting a little bit deeper and deeper until the bottom of his shorts were wet! I called him over to roll up his shorts and he kept telling me roll them up higher, so I did. Then what does he do? He runs right into the water up past his waist! LOL! I called him back to take off his now soaking shorts but let him keep his shorts/underwear on because they were already drenched. We all had a good laugh about it though!
Getting dark, time to bust out the flashlights and s'mores! How cute is KK cheeseing it up for the camera?
Tyler and her favorite uncle, uncle Stacy! I have found that she is very friendly with the other dads as well, always saying Hi to them when she sees them.
Friends! Tyler is now wearing his friend Kaden's shirt since his was still wet. Later on in the evening (the catalyst for calling it a night actually!) there was an altercation between Tyler and his friend Kaden. I was pretty upset (and somewhat inebriated maybe?) but it made some things clear to me that should have been clearer much sooner. Sigh.
Look what Tyler colored at school!
Some cute crafts that Katelyn made. I'm trying not to hoard thing so my solution is take a picture of the craft and then throw it away. :)
Sunday. I was pretty drained from the night before, we all were. We headed up to Rowland Heights in the morning to have dim sum with my parents and drop Annie back with them. Then we hung out a little at my brother's place afterward with him and his baby. Then back home for naps! After naps we met up with our Kumon friends at the Woodbury lagoon pool. Very fun! The kids had a great time!

Here's Tyler and his friends Norah and Morgan. They are all starting Kindergarten too!
