I have somehow allowed this blog to fall miserably behind again - I'm 2+ weeks late with this post! Must be better. Why is it that I feel busier now than when I was working? How did I manage to run a household and work full time before? Am I just slower at things now? Sure, the "kids are in school all day", but how much time is that really? They get to school at 9am, then I go to the gym for an hour or so, grab lunch, and then run errands and clean the rest of the day. Then I pick up Tyler early for his activities, leaving the house at 2pm sometimes to get him! Why are there so many errands to run, and why is the house always so messy? (ok maybe not super messy, but I am kind of a clean freak, so I am a bit obsessive-compulsive about cleanliness). Sigh. I think my non-working days are definitely numbered though... even Will tells me to take a breather and try to enjoy my time off!
Ok, so what went on this week. OH YES! This is the week leading up to my friend Tiff's wedding. The wedding that I was having anxiety about as the date rapidly approached. Anxiety from having to wear a dress that was both shorter/tighter than I am comfortable with, AND it was sleeveless! For those that know me, you probably have almost never see any flesh above my elbow or knee. So you can see what a heart attack this was giving me. I've been really trying to exercise after finishing my comps mid-Feb and it gave me about 1 1/2 month before the wedding. But I do better with deadlines, so maybe this was the deadline I needed to help get my butt into action (literally!).
That week I picked up a cute pair of heels for the wedding from Nordstroms. Peep-toe with a cute 3 inch heel - manageable I think. Katelyn was excited to try them on too!
I don't remember why I took this picture, it was special snack day in Tyler's class that day.
For dinner on Friday we met up with the Mutucs and the Saitos for dinner at Ruby's in Woodbridge. The night started off at the toy store in the same plaza where Katelyn played with Madison. I bought Katelyn a cute little Hello Kitty keychain - she didn't even ask for it - I'm just that wrapped around her little finger!
The kids had a great time at dinner, and got to enjoy some yummy shaved ice afterward! The Mutucs invited us to go to Hawaii with them in December to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. They joined the Disney Vacation Club and would rent us some of their points. They would be staying at Aulani, Disney's newest resort in Oahu! We'd get a good rate too! I'm still working on Will, it's hard to plan vacations when only one of us is working. Our last vacation was when I was pregnant with Katelyn in 2009, and we went to Atlantis for a week in September/October. Such a long time ago! Fingers crossed I'll be able to convince Will!
Later that night we dropped the kids off at Will's parents place. I shouldn't say "dropped" off because we basically got them all ready for bed first at home and then put them down to bed at Will's parents' place. Katelyn wasn't feeling her new surroundings, especially her pack'n'play! She's too big for that! She put up quite a fight, and we just had to cross our fingers that she'd go to sleep. Will and I then went home and got our stuff ready for the big day tomorrow.
Bright and early we headed from Irvine up to Downtown LA. Woah, it's been AGES since we've gone up there! I was a little shell-shocked seeing all the homeless people hanging around, quite a change compared to our little bubble of Irvine. We were there by 830am and grabbed breakfast at a crepe place around the corner from the Millenium Biltmore. I had very minimal makeup on since we were meeting at 9am with the rest of the bridal party to get our hair and makeup done.
Fast forward a few hectic hours, and Voila! - makeup done! Will even helped out by taking photos before their wedding photographer arrived. He got some great ones to share with the bride/groom.
Here's a photo of me and another bridesmaid Michelle. Michelle actually went to junior high with me and was also at Cal at the same time. She even to business school at Wharton! Very impressive. She's single - so I'm on the lookout for eligible bachelors for her. :)
Finished product! The dress isn't too bad, right? Am I tan or what? (Thanks to a custom spray tan earlier in the week - gotta tan the fat if you can't tone it!)
With the amazingly beautiful bride. She was like a Barbie doll that day. Damnit, I have such fat arms, really need to work more on my triceps.
The rest of the morning was busy busy with lots and lots of wedding photos. The Biltmore is a really beautiful hotel and provided amazingly backdrops.
We even had to take some silly poses with our groomsmen partners.
Finally, time for the wedding! We all headed to the Castaway Restaurant in Burbank. It's located at the top of the hill over a golf course. Will and I are ready! I'm looking REALLY tan here, huh!
Thankfully I made it down the aisle without any stumbles, but it sure is nerve wracking standing up there during the ceremony. I was glad when it was over because it was time to get our drink on! Luckily the girls were great and provided me with many many drinking buddies. :)
By the end of the night everyone was quite inebriated. Hey, that's a sign of a good wedding, right? The photo booths were a lot of fun too!
This picture cracks me up because Tiff had changed into a black evening gown for their upcoming tango and with my head on Brian's shoulder I feel like I could be mistaken for the bride. Oops! Good thing we are all good friends! Haha!
Made a lot of new friends that night and reconnected with old ones too. Mirei, on the left, is a new friend I made not too long ago that lives down here in Irvine. She is awesome and has a 1 year old little boy. I can tell there's going to be a lot of fun in our future. :)
More photo booth pictures. By this time we had lost one of the bridesmaids. Busy morning + not eating much for lunch + lots of alcohol = not a good combination for her. We named her bridesmaid of the year.
Ooh, this is a neat story! One of Tiff's little brother had his girlfriend Natalie there. I met her the weekend before when they gave me a ride back to Hacienda Heights after the wedding rehearsal. She's much younger (early 20s?) and is an SOPi at UC San Diego! She's a smarty too - studied biochemistry or something. She's so cute!
We got home pretty late that night, super tired but totally worth it. My feet were extremely sore and really dirty (shudder). It was an awesome day-long date with the hubby. :)
Sunday morning we picked up the kids from the grandparents. Saturday had been a long day for them, they hadn't seen us since Friday night and it was now Sunday! I am not used to being away from the kids for that long - I know, it was barely more than 1 full day, but still... they were really happy to see us! We headed to Mirei's son's 1st birthday party at the Irvine Regional Park Railroad. The kids fell asleep on the way there!
We saw a lot of the same people that we had partied with the night before - I'm amazed that so many of them made it all the way down to Irvine since they all live in LA. The kids were excited for the pony rides.

Here's Katelyn and Mirei! It was Katelyn's first time meeting her but she didn't have a problem giving her a big hug!
After the party we went on the train as well.
Look at my pretty purse!
Last thing from the week, a video of Tyler playing tennis. I think I can safely say that we do not have a tennis prodigy on our hands. But he was really focused and enjoyed it. I think it's definitely a sport that we can play more of in the future:
More posts to come! :)
