Whew, after a crazily long post for the holiday activities, I am very much relieved to have a short and sweet post this week.
First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR! Whoohoo 2012! I have great hopes for 2012 - especially that it'll be better than 2011. 2011 was not so great. Ok, the first part was great, but the part around getting laid off really sucked. I have committed myself to some hard core studying (please don't let it be too late!) until my exam in Mid February. The anxiety I feel about it is ridiculous and I tell myself every morning to stop my whining and complaining and get on with it. Argh! It's OK, study mode ON!
This New Years Eve was unlike any Will and I have had in the past 5 years. Our last partying NYE was in 2005 and I really have no clue what we did. Life was really different back then. Starting 2006 we were either pregnant ('06, '09) or stuck at home nursing a baby ('07, '10). Hm, I wonder what we did in '08... anyway. Whoohoo- my parents were able to babysit this NYE and Will/I felt the kids were finally old enough to spend the night without us. The night started with dinner with Kareen/Andy at Banderas in Corona del Mar. YUM. It was a much needed date night as well!
After dinner, it was about 10pm or so, we headed to a NYE party right around the corner in Tustin Fields. The party was thrown by a friend of our friend Ray, and I was thinking it might be lowkey since it was at someone's house. Boy, was I wrong! Think dance floor, DJ, open Bar w/bartender, catered Mexican food, etc. Very fancy. I really can't remember the last time we went to a party like this! We met a lot of people and had an overall great time (aside from a couple people who kept talking to us about refinancing our home loan with their mortgage company!). The 4 of us spent the night at the Woodbury house so as not to wake up my parents at our home. Exhausted does not begin to describe how we felt the next morning!
New Years Day! My dad called around 10am to say the kiddies were demanding their mommy. Good thing we were less than 10 minutes away! After my parents and Kareen/Andy left, we turned on the TV, put out the iPhone and iPad, and attempted to catch a quick nap. I wasn't too successful though. At noon we got the kids packed up and headed up to Rowland Heights for my brother Lindon's birthday BBQ (yup he was born on New Years Day!). Katelyn got some more fun time in with her cousin Leah - not sure how many months will go by until they get to play together again!
Happy 37th birthday to Lindon!
Still really tired. Was one night out partying worth the exhaustion we were feeling? In the afternoon we headed from Rowland Heights to see Will's parents in Rosemead. We were there about 1/2hr-45 minutes. Just enough time for the kids to play with the grandparents for a bit (they're going on vacation for a month or so) and then headed back down to Irvine.
Ok, really exhausted by now. Katelyn was acting up terribly and we decided that would stay home that night with Will and not join Tyler/myself on our last event of the day. Playdate at the Saitos! It was a little weird not having Will/Katelyn there. I think Tyler definitely took a little time getting adjusted since he always has Katelyn and Will to play with him and the other kids. This time he was kind of on his own for a little bit until he eased into the pace of things. Here are a few pictures from that night of Tyler playing with his friends. We left past 9pm.
What a crazy New Years Day! Thank goodness we had an extra day on Monday to recuperate. At least that's what we thought. It was not an easy day as the kids were very active and Will/I were extremely sleep-deprived. Will was sick and barely got out of bed. I remember feeding the kids lunch and almost falling asleep at the table as I sat with them! Will had taken Tuesday off, and that really was the day that we had to get some good rest/relaxation in since the kids were at school.
The kids' new favorite game, as discovered with their cousins, is to dump all the plastic balls out and throw them at each other. It makes for quite a mess. Katelyn was tipping the bucket over to get the balls at the bottom and the whole bucket fell on her! It was too funny to not take a picture!
And lastly, how cute is Katelyn's hair from school this week? Her teacher said she usually doesn't sit still for so long to do something this complex. I loved it!
Before baths we take out all her hair bands. HILARIOUS how her hair looked after we took everything out. Isn't she our little rock star? Will was trying to get her to do rocker hand motions but wasn't too successful. Her hair makes me giggle so much!
Side note: Katelyn bit a child at school yesterday! Ahh! The Horror! Especially since I found out (secretly) that the other child's mother is a mother who seems pretty intense about things). I guess it's payback since a couple of weeks ago she was viciously scratched on her face! Sigh. I have to remember that kids will be kids, but I do hope these altercations are not between her and the same kid! She looked very guilty when I picked her up from school, but it was hard scolding her since she is just so DARN cute.
Have a good week everyone!
