Huntington Library, Back to School Night & Pumpkin Patch.. (Week 222/84)

This week I headed up with Katelyn to spend a day with my parents.  It's quite a pleasant and rare occasion to have the time to have a nice relaxing day together.  My parents had tickets to the Huntington Library for Thursday (first Thursday of each month is free but you have to reserve a month ahead of time) that they had originally gotten for my sister-in-law and her mother to go, but by some change of events Katelyn and I ended up going instead.  Katelyn was SO well behaved that day though, and so sweet to be around.

Here she is with my dad before we headed out.  She was super sweet to my dad that day - I think she definitely has a tendency to favor men.  Uh-oh!

Whew, it was quite a drive to Pasadena.  Unfortunately, Katelyn fell asleep RIGHT as we were getting there and parking.  Bad timing.  She was very grumpy when I took her out of her carseat and put her into her stroller.  Very angry for a little bit and then she was fine.  She just kind of glared around as she got situated.  For the rest of our visit, she never left her stroller!  She wasn't in a bad mood anymore, but she didn't feel like getting out and walking.  I was kind of bummed since I wanted to get some cute photos, but then I realized it was easier on all of us if she hung out in there anyway. :)

After walking around for a while (and enjoying their Chinese garden and live er-hoo music), we headed to a dimsum place in Alhambra for lunch.  And then shaved ice at Old Country Cafe afterward!  That place always brings back memories of childhood stops after choir practice.

By the time we got back to my parents' place, Katelyn had ENOUGH of being in the car.  She wanted out!  We played around for a while, and my dad pulled out this sign they had in their front lawn so we could get some pictures.  Katelyn was adamant on putting it back!

Boo, none of the group shots came out nice.  By the time I started driving home, Katelyn was starting to get into full meltdown mode.  It was the afternoon already and she had barely gotten any sleep all day.  She cried and whined the whole way home and finally fell asleep right as we were getting into Irvine.  Argh!  She slept a little longer in the car but I had to wake her so that we wouldn't be really screwed when bedtime came in a couple hours.  BOY was she mad.  Note to self:  I need to be more vigilant about getting that nap in!

Friday was Back to School Night at the kids' school.  It's a great event that the school holds for the parents to get to know the teachers better, see their kid's class curriculum, as well as meet other parents.  This was Katelyn's collage in her toddler room.  We have Tyler's from infant and toddler room still hanging in his room!

Katelyn was most excited since we were all having dinner in the big kid yard.  She loves playing on the climber there, while I always feel like I'm going to have a heart attack since she's so small.  She's a tough cookie though and can handle it!

Katelyn saw a group of older girls playing and was excited to join them.  Older girls do love to play with little babies too!  They were happy to let her join them, and even started tickling her with little leaves!

After dinner Will and I had to split up.  He went with Tyler to Pre-4 and I took Katelyn to her Toddler class.  That kind of sucked.  Last year we stayed together and tried to do both rooms unsuccessfully.  I didn't take too many photos but here's one of Katelyn coloring.  I did get a chance to chat with some of the other toddler room parents though, so that was nice!

Will had a busy time in Pre-4 too.  Here's Tyler making a trick-or-treat bag with one of his teachers.

Tyler and his favorite teacher Vanessa sharing a nice warm hug.

Then Will and Tyler spent a while in the bathroom.  Heehee.

Loved this photo of Tyler and one of his BFFs Zane at school.  The teachers had printed it and framed it.

Tyler and all 4 of his teachers!

Katelyn had a fun time after we came to join up with them.

Then Tyler started taking photos!  He took this one of me and another mom (Chi).

They have a map where they had kids put their name of places they had been.  Yup, that's Tyler at the Bahamas!

self portrait!

This was Tyler's stick figure that he made.  They actually had the kids lay down and traced their outlines.  Notice how light Tyler's skin is - the kids chose all the colors themselves.  He was whiter than the white girls! hah!

A chaotic and unsuccessful group picture of our playgroup outside.

Saturday - Open House at the Orange County Fire Authority!  We came last October as well, when I was still wearing Katelyn in my ergo!  Awwww!  Tyler got to use a real fire hose to put out fake fire; the kids got to sit in different fire vehicles too!

The most exciting part was probably the live fire demos.  The firemen set a kitchen and a bedroom on fire and then put it out.  They also had a search dog rescue demo that the kids really enjoyed.  Katelyn wanted Tyler's balloon (poor Tyler!).  We saved some seats for our friends and the kids all got to watch the shows together.  Afterward Tyler took a picture with one of the firemen who had put out the fire!

Saturday evening we had an impromptu Pumpkin patch visit.  It was cold!  We had to go home (we were out having dinner) so that I could get thicker jackets as well as socks/closed toe shoes for the kids.  We met up with another family (the Garners) and it was funny since their kids were in shorts/short sleeves and flip flops!  We are so Asian and afraid of the cold! :)

The boys were exhausted were from the bounce house - so exhausted that they were just lying on the floor!

Family pix!

Sunday I went to a bridal shower and got to hang out with my friend Lara!

And some random pictures of the week:

Katelyn loves her spaghetti, and her sunglasses!

Friendship board at school.  This one is Tyler's - he said that he likes to do stuff with his friend Zane.  Zane's is the next one and he drew a picture of him and Tyler playing together too!  The one after that is Tyler's other friend Kaden's - he likes to play with Tyler too! :)

Snack time at school, and showing off a lego vehicle that he had made. :)

Have a good week!
