Wow, June already. 1 month closer to being laid off and becoming unemployed. I'm starting to feel uneasy about the whole thing, but I just have to remind myself that it'll be good to spend more time with the kids while they are young.
We've started taking Tyler to the Tu/Thu taekwondo classes instead of the Mon/Wed 620-650 class. That class was just too late in the day and we were scrambling for baths and bedtime when we got back. I started Tyler in the 3-4 year old class, but that 330 time frame is bit rushed to get him there on time. Instead, we're doing the 4-430pm class which is for the 5-7 year olds. Ok, I know Tyler isn't even 4 yet, but Tyler is holding his own in that class! Plus I talked to Mr. Do (the owner) and he said that Tyler would be fine in this class. It is definitely faster paced than what he's used to, but challenges are a good thing. They're starting to learn a new form (Sangham2) which means I need to learn it at some point so I can practice with Tyler. Doh.
Katelyn had her followup appointment with her pediatric allergist last week. It had been about 2 months since we had first gone to see him, and in that time we've tried to really cut out wheat/gluten, dairy, soy, egg whites, shellfish and almonds. It has not been easy, but there has been a marked improvement in Katelyn's skin as well as her overall attitude (so says the nanny). Plan is to keep up the diet restrictions (argh!) and retest next year to see if she has overcome any of them. The doctor warned me that usually kids start outgrowing them around 3-5 years of age. He didn't want me to get my hopes up. I have been suffering from an unpleasant patch of eczema myself on the palm of my right hand. For a while I thought it was a flesh eating bacteria or something. It was really weird and had stayed there for a long time. A visit to a dermatologist confirmed it was just eczema. WHAT? This is what Katelyn was dealing with? Poor baby! It is SO itchy and uncomfortable and painful. Here's Katelyn waiting in the doctor office for her appointment.
Mommy and Me Chinese class! This week we learned the phrases "do you like monkeys / frogs" and the reply "Yes, I like it". Sounds easy right? You'd think... we really need to be more diligent in speaking Chinese to Tyler. It's not too late, is it?
Tyler got in some bike time this weekend as well. He particularly liked riding over a blue reflector on the road.
Video of Katelyn playing around the water fountain. We were having dinner at Sagami and Will took the kids to play around the fountain in the meantime. Sagami was great when I told them about Katelyn's allergies and were very accommodating. Apparently Katelyn should try to avoid soy sauce due to her soy allergy, but come on! - soy sauce?? Not really going to happen. Anyway, Katelyn is so friendly, she loves waving at people - random, strange people.
On the home front, Katelyn is getting better with using her spoon. It's very exciting and very messy. She's quite proud of herself as well.
The in-laws are back from their travels and came down to see the kids. They were here, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There was a lot of grandparent time for the kids. Katelyn really likes Will's dad. You'd think after being away for a month she'd take some time to warm back up. Nope! The whole weekend she was looking for Will's dad and holding her hands up to him for him to pick her up. They brought back some (surely knock offs) Burberry dresses and a jacket for Katelyn. Really cute! Katelyn decided that she wanted to wear her beanie too as well. What a little girl. :)
Doesn't the beanie match her dress just perfectly? hah!
After Saturday at our place, we headed over to their place on Sunday. Here are some pictures of Katelyn in her high chair, which turns out is a good place to get photos since she's always running and moving around.
Woah, slow it down Katelyn.
In her defense though, the food Will's parents make are always really yummy and healthy. I think this was a brown rice with vegetable dish. Even Tyler ate all the vegetables that were in it!
Time to play outside, time to put on shoes.
It was a quite a beautiful day - warm, and breezy. We were headed to the nearby park (super close) to fly a kite that the grandparents had brought back from China. It was a very light weight kite and flew really high. Unfortunately the quality wasn't that great, and parts of it started falling apart. :(
Look how high it goes!
Katelyn was looking high in the sky at it too.
Fixing the kite...(those are the China Olympic mascots)
So a few pieces came undone off the main kite - which in turn were perfect mini kites for Katelyn! I love this picture, the mini kite was so cute. :)
Tyler had a great time.
This is my first ever time putting Katelyn in a puffy dress like this. It actually was a top and bottom set that she got for Christmas. The leggings and the tutu are one piece. I may have crossed over to the dark side though. I always kind of thought the tutus were silly and snobby and very "oc" but...gosh they are so darn cute!
Tyler and a mini kite.
Katelyn and the grandparents.
This is Tyler seriously watching me play some iPhone game. Oh guess what! I finally convinced Will to get an iPad2! Yeehaw! So very excited.
Katelyn reading. Sometimes during bedtime stories, Katelyn wants to read books herself. By this I mean she doesn't want you touching the book at all. She'll stand there and flip the pages and make noises as if she's reading to herself. She's so independent! Just like she doesn't let you hold her hand while she walks. What's that about?!
We played with Tyler's cars on the kitchen table - zooming them back and forth. Amazing how something so simple can be so much fun for the kids.
heehee, got these kid aviator glasses on clearance. HAHAHA.
And lastly, some bath photos, just because she' just so darn cute.
Video of after-bath fun: Katelyn playing peekaboo!
This was a screenshot from my iPhone of Leah and Katelyn video chatting. Heehee.
