Cousin Leah visits and 15 month checkup!! (Week 205/67)

Another week flying by.  Tyler has been really lovey-dovey lately - he'll come up to me and say "I love you so much mama" and give me nice soft hugs.  Melts my heart! Katelyn is a learning machine!  She tries to repeat everything you say and wants to do everything herself.  She particularly likes trying to move really large bags around the room for some reason.  Everytime we pick her up from school, her teachers tell us how much she likes to try to say different words.

It's been a while since Katelyn has gone to a taekwondo class with Tyler.  I wonder if she misses it.  She saw Tyler's belt on the couch the other day, brought it to me and made an indication that she wanted to wear it!  It didn't stay on for long but she liked doing kicks wearing it!

The head master Mr. Do at Tyler's taekwondo school told me that Tyler was one of his favorites, and that his focus is night and day from when he started.  Really?  They are working on a new form and it looks difficult!  Here's Tyler helping to lead the class.

Video of Tyler getting a taekwondo star.  Apparently you get these when you are doing a good job?  I had never even really seen them give them out and only noticed when I saw the stars on other kids' uniforms.  I mentioned it to Mr. Do and they had Tyler perform his new form with another teacher.  Go Tyler!

This week marked an exciting event - I finally convinced Will to get an iPad!  I still remember when the first iPad was coming out.  I was pregnant with Katelyn and really wanted one.  Had to have one!  I wanted to have it when I was in the hospital with her.  Except it didn't come out in time, and quite honestly, I didn't have a really good reason for needing one.  Fast forward a year.   A year of wearing Will down!  The iPad has a bigger screen and is better for the kids' eyes.  That's a good reason right?  We headed to Irvine Spectrum on Friday and had dinner first at P.F. Changs.  [Annoying side note:  I called and asked how long the wait was and the hostess said they are booked until 8pm.  I asked about walk-ins and she said the wait would be 1.5 hrs.  We decided to go put our name down anyway and there was absolutely NO wait at all!  Lame hostess!]  We got there in time for their happy hour menu too - it's actually quite a yummy HH menu!  Katelyn was all about the dumplings.

Afterward Tyler got to ride the carousel.  The picture is misleading since he loves carousels, but he just didn't want me to take a picture.  Boycott!  Sadly, Tyler started feeling that the carousel was going too fast and was anxiously waiting for the ride to end.  Sensitive kid.

Drum roll... the Apple store!  While Will and I chatted with one of the employees, Tyler quickly made himself at home and started playing some games on an iPad 2.

This was so silly.  Katelyn reached over to the mouse and pretended it was a phone.  Hello?  Anyone there?

We walked home with a 64 gb wi-fi white iPad2.  Oh yes, also a much lighter wallet.  It's quite wonderful and amazing.  However, the iPad2 OS isn't jailbroken yet - which is making it so painful for me since I can only download free apps.  I know, the irony isn't lost on me that I am willing to spend a small fortune on the iPad2 but am too cheap to pay 99 cents for an app.  Hah!  The kids love it too - they watch Yo Gabba Gabba on it before bedtime.  [There's a party in my tummy....]

Chinese class this week was all about going to the beach and bringing your shovel and bucket.

Video of Tyler playing red-light/green-light in Chinese class!

And just for fun, we took some pictures with our backdrop before we headed off to a birthday party on Saturday.  We're always just so busy that we don't even have time to just snap some photos with the setup we have going.  These were done real quick!

I like this one!

Love my kids!

On Saturday we attended a birthday party for one of Tyler's school friends (Brayden).  The party started at 12:30pm which was a really weird time - we assumed lunch would be served but isn't 12:30pm kind of late for lunch?  Plus all the kids at Tyler's school (including Brayden) are napping by 1pm after lunch around 11:30am!  When we got there, the community clubhouse hadn't even been unlocked yet so there was nothing set up yet at all.  Yikes!  The kids passed the time playing at the park next door.  Katelyn is always a fan of the swings.

Will and Katelyn got in some good daddy and daughter time on the seesaw.  Katelyn had a great time!

By the time the doors were opened it was already pushing 1pm (or later?) and the kids were really hungry.  The firetruck was there as well and all the kids were excited to go for a ride.  Tyler and his other school friends were pretty darn hungry by then and we had them eat lunch first.  Weird scheduling.  There was still time after they ate to go on the second firetruck ride.

After the rides the kids got to shoot water at a spinning target.  Something different!  Tyler really liked it and kept getting in line and waiting patiently.

The firetruck birthday cake was really nice.  I got the contact information and got some pricing, thinking it might be affordable for Tyler's upcoming birthday party, but BOY was I wrong.  The cake had fresh fruit and a 'simple' design and started at $180.  Sheesh!  I've since talked to Albertsons bakery.  Much more affordable.

Favors for the party were these nice firemen hats - good hard quality plastic and very durable.  Even Katelyn got one.  There was supposed to be swimming afterward at the community pool but we decided it was time to head home.  Good thing Tyler didn't know or he might have put up a fuss.  He was asleep before we got home (and it's a 10 minute drive!).

Sunday morning we headed over to Monterey Park since Kareen/Andy/Leah were in town.  We headed over right after Katelyn's morning nap so she was in a silly mood.  She likes to put her lovey over her head and giggle.  Silly Katelyn.  Tyler fell asleep on the way there and got a nice little nap in - we let him sleep longer in the car with Will after we arrived.

Lunch with Leah!

Katelyn is a good eater but Leah blows her away in that department!

Yum... apples!

Katelyn has been really friendly lately - and had no problem backing it up and sitting with Kareen.  Leah was not as open. :(

My sister-in-law Michelle is due in September!

Kareen and Katelyn!

Here's Tyler with my brother and Michelle.

What!  Another picture of Kareen with the girls!  I must get one next time!

Hugs - until next time!

Back home Katelyn didn't want to put on the fireman hat until she saw Tyler wearing it.  She loves copying him.

Not a very lady-like sitting position Katelyn!

Katelyn also her 15 month check up this week (a week or two late).  I am going to miss having Cheyenne come with me to these doctor appointments.  Katelyn was SO cute and on such great behavior.  She impressed our pediatrician with how many words she knew, and how well she communicates.  She was like our little performer - showing off all her words and instruction-following.

Her weight was 24 pounds - about 70ish percentile.
Her height was 33 inches - about 99% percentile!
Her head circumference, I don't remember what it was - was about 80ish%.

Here she is getting weighed on the scale.

The nurse moved back so I could get a quick photo and Katelyn said "noooooo" sadly while shaking her head and reaching for Cheyenne.  She didn't like to be on it.

Here's Katelyn saying "nekkid babyyyyyy!" at her appointment.  She is so cute and loves to talk!

Mommy and me!
