Katelyn is growing rapidly before my eyes! She has become quite vocal, stubborn and adamant about what she wants. Some things she's been doing:
She'll point at something and go "!! !!" until we get it for her.
She's really good at nodding her head for "yes" now as well, which is a nice change from her previous constant head shaking for "no".
She's trying really hard to use words - she can say "pur-ple" almost perfectly and "reeehhh" for "red".
Whenever she drops something, she'll make the "uh oh" sounds except she does it with her mouth closed so it sounds like "mm mmh" but with the same intonations as "uh oh".
When she's ready to get out of her high chair or sick of her carseat, she waves her hands next to her head - baby signing for "all done".
When she wants you to read her a book she'll pick out the book (she's very picky!), hand it to you and say "mohhh!"(more) then do the "more" baby sign (bumping her fingers together) and then the please sign (rubbing her chest with her palm).
We've been trying new foods this week - some peanut and almond butter, different cheeses, etc. Katelyn is definitely a good eater, but she is so sensitive to allergenic stuff! We're a bit perplexed since her blood allergy test back at ~9 months showed only sesame seed / corn as possible issues, and even the levels on those were low. Seems like she has some issues with eggs as well. She'll get splotchy marks around her mouth, and also eczema all over her body. Poor baby.
This week marked Tyler's 4th (and last) week of his basketball class. We're going to miss that class - but no fear, we start soccer next week! (he was supposed to start this week but they canceled the class due to the field conditions). Here he is hanging out with one of the other kids during drills.
Video of Tyler doing basketball drills! First, he's doing bounce passes. A HUGE improvement from before. I'm even impressed now that he can catch a bounce pass to him - I remember when he would always be 2-3 seconds too late! Then they practiced dribbling and keeping their basketball within their little hula hoop. Not bad Tyler!
Video of Tyler playing with the hula-hoop. Yes, they were supposed to try to hula-hoop! I was actually impressed again - Tyler can throw his hula hoop pretty fast to get it to spin around him. The other kids were pretty confused - they would spin their hula hoop and turn their own bodies inside it as well! Go Tyler!
Video of Tyler and his basketball drills. I think this is the video of Tyler making a basket! Whoohoo! I actually got one on video - seriously, he seemed to only make them when I wasn't recording, and miss every time I did record!
It must have been a long day, because afterward Katelyn and Tyler took a little nap together in the playpit. Ok, they weren't really asleep but it was really cute watching them play together and also see Tyler so gentle with Katelyn.
Video of Katelyn playing outside with Cheyenne. Love this video. I came downstairs to get some water and saw Katelyn and her nanny playing in the yard. Beautiful day! Look how cute Katelyn is with her little hat on!
This weekend, to keep from being stir crazy, we did some mini-nearby adventures. First was the Pacific Mammal Rescue Center in Laguna Beach. I wasn't expecting much, and it met my expectations! It's almost like a pound for sea lions, and quite smelly. They rescue and nurse back to help injured wild seals/sea lions. Here's Katelyn telling Will - look! Look over there!
This was was close as we could get to one. They are pretty strict human contact so that they can release them back into the wild. There are even signs there saying not to talk to them! This one is, unfortunately, fake. Doesn't it look real though?
I think it tricked Katelyn...
Next mini stop? Laguna Koi Ponds! How convenient that it was pretty much next door. So many koi here, so many ponds too. They had them separated by size and WHOAH some of these larger Koi go for over $1000 each!
What an expensive hobby to have...
They had cute gardens with many different ponds to check out the fish. Katelyn was all about it.
"Look over there!", she must have been thinking...
My big boy Tyler!
One of Tyler's catch phrases lately has been "please, can we go to one more place?" This kid never wants to go home! We decided to stop by a park in Tustin this weekend as well. We've passed it a few times on Jamboree while heading to the Irvine Park and always wanted to stop by. Will and Katelyn!
This is how Tyler likes to smile now. Isn't it lovely. ...
Video of Tyler practicing his punches:
Tyler learning his taekwondo moves. This one is maybe more for our benefit - I have intentions to study it and have practice Tyler his taekwondo at home. So far? Not happening!
Katelyn does a great "hiyahhh!" impression too now. She always wants to join in with the fun.
Just kidding! I think I'll be putting her in things like gymnastics and ballet instead!
Video of Tyler playing Taekwondo freeze. He's not bad actually!
Oops, we are a little out of order this week. Here are some more photos from the park. Love Katelyn's little dress. Yup, it's a dress, but it was cold so I put jeans on her. My nanny thinks I'm a little crazy with the amount of clothes I insist Katelyn wear! She actually kept her little headband on for a while though - amazing!
I think this could be an ad for her cute little See Kai Run shoes. They're so cute!
Tyler and Katelyn playing together.
Love this picture too! She was watching Tyler and his friend play, and really looked like she wanted to join in on the fun.
And... the headband is gone. She's starting to look more girly though - maybe she wont need a headband anymore to indicate that she's a little girl!
Oh my. Apparently there's a little hill area that has become popular for sand sledding. There were a bunch of kids doing it and everyone just leaves their cardboard "sleds" on the side. Tyler and his friend Zoe (who is like a head taller than him and we bumped into at the park) waited until the other kids had left before they decided to try it out.
Yes, only Tyler would think it would be more fun to go headfirst. This is the kid who I can't get to go on any roller coaster and, I quote, "slow is my favorite"...
Very concentrated!
My parents also came by this weekend for a short visit. Always good seeing them, haven't seen them since Katelyn's birthday party beginning of March. It's harder now too since my grandmother doesn't live down here in Irvine anymore.
She doesn't seem to mind my dad anymore - before his loud voice always seemed to scare her. Either she's getting braver or my dad is speaking softer!
Hanging on the couch with the grandparents.
New chairs I got at Babies R Us for $5.99. How cute are they! Katelyn was excited to sit on them, but she gets on it by climbing, and then gets a foot stuck!
tickle tickle!
aww, a sweet moment!
I realized that we never have any picture of grumpy k, and I had to add this one since this is HER lately. Miss Diva, temper tantrum-extraordinaire. If she doesn't get she wants, she is pissed and will let you know for sure. Please let this just be a phase.
Tyler's pillow mojo.
Tyler is quite helpful sometimes - like helping push Katelyn in a shopping cart. We bought some shin guards and soccer socks for Tyler!
Here's Tyler and Katelyn playing in their ball pit. I'm amazed that they both fit in there.
Cute video of the kiddos. Katelyn just wants to do what Tyler is doing, so as soon as he gets out she gets out too. Except it's a lot more effort on her part to get out. By the time she finally gets out, Tyler's hopped back in and she's got to start the process of getting herself back in... but then Tyler hops out again! Hah! Finally I think she just gives up.
This week was also picture week for Katelyn! Sigh. A month late for her 1 year pictures. Hope that still counts. Kicking myself that 1) we didn't do it earlier and 2) I had her wear this little light pink cupcake dress first - which now, in hindsight, totally looks like pajamas! Ugh! Here's a photo of Will and Katelyn in her pretty dark pink dress. That headband was actually a prop the photo studio had - and it matched great!
Here are some thumbnail images from the session:
Katelyn got a nice little treat for being so good at her photo session - an orange sherbert push pop! It was a very messy affair, but she thoroughly enjoyed it. Must get more.
We sucked it up and had Sushilicious for dinner. I feel so guilty coming here for dinner since we can't get their lunch special of 5 plates / $10! Full price in the evening! But I have been wanting to go ever since the week Will was out of town before Katelyn's birthday the first week of March. We had plans to go that Friday but Katelyn was so sick. Tyler likes their shrimp katsu (which is really just like shrimp tempura I think?)
It was quite a warm day - Tyler was actually in shorts! I'm trying to think what the special occasion was that he had his hair gelled. Ooh, it must have been the weekend, after we had gone sight seeing I think.
Hey Katelyn! She is quite squirmy these days - hard to get her to hang out in her high chair like she used to. She needs to be constantly distracted, and then when that doesn't work, she just wants to walk around. Argh! She's great at smiling at everyone though and getting people to smile back at her.
