Katelyn is walking, and a visit from Auntie Tiff!! (Week 188/50)

Big news everybody... Katelyn is starting to walk!  Just last week I was saying that she was balancing a little bit by herself, and now, just a week later, she's excitedly taking steps here and there!  It is beyond exciting but bittersweet as well - my little baby is almost a walker!  Sniff sniff.  WAAAHHH!

This past weekend we got a visit from my BFF from junior high Tiff and her boyfriend Brian!  I haven't seen Tiff since Katelyn's baby shower.  Yes, that long!  Just goes to show how "far" away LA and OC are from each other.  We're going to have to get better at keeping in touch!  Anyway, they were amazingly natural with Katelyn - it was like they were parents themselves - they were totally comfortable with holding her and stuff - even Brian!  I didn't mind - I'll take any break I can get. ;)

We had lunch at Lazy Dog Cafe.  Katelyn was quite happy hanging out with Auntie Tiffany!

I discovered this new iPhone app that lets me tweak photo shading - its fun!  Here's Tiff and Katelyn and me.  They aren't able to make it to Katelyn's 1st birthday party so they brought a gift for her (cute clothes) and were thoughtful enough to bring Tyler a gift too!  Tyler loved his racing Tron toy- but ouch, those little cars are painful to step on...

This past week was also Valentine's day!  We had tentative plans on Sunday (which means we had dinner reservations but no real plan for anyone to watch the kids...) that fell through (unsurprisingly).  Boo.  Will made up for it by moving his work meeting schedule around so that we could enjoy a lunch just the two of us.  Our go-to quick lunch place is Sushilicious (I love that place, I don't know why) but when we got there we found that they were closed in preparation for dinner.  WAAAH.  We ended up in the same plaza having some sub-par Pho.  Sniff sniff.   Will helped me feel better though when he brought me a bouquet of my favorite flowers (tulips!) when he got home.  We decided to head to Sushilicious again for dinner with the kids anyway.  Rarely do we go for dinner since they don't have their lunch special (5 plates for $10!) but the manager remembered us stopping by at lunch and gave us the discount for dinner anyway.  YIPPEE!  Seriously, I really like that place, I have no idea why.   Here's a our family Valentine's night picture!

Usually when we go out to eat with the kids I make all the necessary preparations such as milk for Tyler (I'm kind of picky about him drinking organic so I just bring some for him), veggies (usually something simple like canned green beans or carrots), sippy cup for Katelyn to drink water from, some fresh fruit, etc.  Yes, I am THAT person who brings their own food from home to a restaurant - but to be fair, it's for the kids and we still order lots of food anyway!  Anyway, very exciting (for me anyway), this weekend we actually had an impromptu dinner out without any preparation - and Katelyn did fine!  Although, she did insist on drinking water from a cup and she ended up drenched.  She's very insistent when she has her mind set on something.  She'll point at something, look at you, and then open and close her palms as she looks at you... waiting...  She'll even try to get her own scoop of frozen yogurt!

Video of Katelyn enjoying some Yogurtland.  She'll be just like Tyler!

We also had some fun strapping the kids in shopping carts.  Yes, isn't our life exciting?  Usually we put Katelyn in the normal kid seat in the stroller and Tyler in the main basket, but Target convinced us to put them both on Target's shopping cart.  I was nervous but (thank goodness) the shopping cart seatbelts actually have a second strap that goes between the legs so there's no chance of the kids slipping out.  Katelyn liked it too!

Uh...Home depot did not have that second strap.  I was very nervous about this, even with Will's reassurances.  But she was fine!

On Sunday my in-laws were in town and Will helped them set up their new backyard furniture.  I love their backyard - freshly landscaped with new patio furniture!  After we got home I had convinced Will to dismantle our current patio umbrella (it has many issues, the biggest being that it's a dangerous tripping hazard with it's weird feet setup) and set our eyes on getting a new one.  Yay!  Maybe even a new table and matching chairs!  Anyway, my father-in-law let Katelyn try on my sunglasses.  Looking good K!

Katelyn with the grandparents.  They came over later that afternoon and both of them witnessed Katelyn taking steps at different times!  Yay Kateyln - she knows that witnesses are VERY important! :)

Some random bath pictures.  We seem to have a lot of bath pictures - maybe because that's the only time they can't really go somewhere else!  Tyler loves his baths with Katelyn!

Katiebug!  She has a bad habit of standing up in the tub.  I'm so worried about her slipping and biting down on her tongue or something!

Hi Tyler!

Hi Katelyn!

This picture was really funny - I was blowing bubbles and they would stop and stay sudsy even after they landed in Katelyn's wet hair!

More big news - we're doing a little remodeling!  Last week Wednesday I got an estimate for some painting and bamn bamn they worked on it Tue-Thur and we're done!  I love it!  Here's Tyler's room all covered up in plastic wrap.  We kept the room blue but had them paint the ceiling to hide all the mistkaes that WE tried to hide 4 years ago when we first put up the blue paint!

Here's Katelyn's room.  They moved everything out but kept the crib in the middle of the room and then everything was covered in plastic.  First they changed out the closet doors (they were SO hideous before, I'm glad I don't have photos) and put in dry wall so that we could put in standard sized closet doors, and then they did the painting.

WOW, how many shades are there of pink paint?!  Completed photos coming next week!

Here's Katelyn with her lovey Lamby.  She loves her little lamby - it really does bring her comfort.  And I guess it tastes good too...

Mmm, yum - dumplings!  She'll eat anything!

The last couple nights have been a bit difficult since Katelyn has been displaced from her room due to the painting.  Even her bedtime story routine got changed up too.  She knows her books so well - there's an Elmo one with little flaps to open and she would always go straight to the tabs to pull them open.

Oooh this is the cutest thing!  Video of Katelyn blowing kisses with her bear.  My nanny taught her to blow kisses and say Muah!, and here she was doing it to her little stuffed bear!

Katelyn actually in real jeans.  She's such a big girl in them!

Video of Katelyn coming down the stairs - feet first!  Smarty.

Just hanging out with her lamby...

This picture is totally a girl version of baby Tyler.  How is it that they look so much alike!?

Regal Mojo.

I got to see my girls this week too!  After the kids were in bed last Thursday I headed over to M's house and we just hung out and caught up.  It's been TOO long, it was wonderful and I really needed the 'mommy' time.

Last week I reminded myself to try to get a photo of Katelyn standing on her own for this week.  Voila!

Thinking about maybe walking...

I did it!  Yay!  She's still quite wobbly though.

Video of Katelyn practicing walking and falling.  Seriously, this video is really funny only because Katelyn is smiling at the end.  She takes a few tentative steps and then eats it and her feet go flying in the air!  Heehee, but thank goodness that area of her pit is padded so she wasn't hurt.  She got up and tried again!

Video of Katelyn doing more walking - this one I tinkered with iMovie for the first time and put together a few clips.  I LOVE IT and now am addicted to iMovie.  I can't wait to put some more clips together!  Anyway, she is getting better and more confident.  Just this morning, Katelyn was standing against the bed, and Will was about to walk by to go to the bathroom when Katelyn decided to walk from the bed over to the laundry hamper.  No prompting or coaching!  It was almost like watching ducks cross the road - no warning - Will had to put on his 'brakes' and watch her wobble across the road before he could head to the bathroom.  Too cute!

Whew, finished the post as I'm half asleep. At one point I typed "molly" instead of Katelyn. Sorry if this post is a bit confusing since I am SO sleep deprived! Going to sleep now. YAY Katelyn is walking!
