Grandpa's birthday!!! (Week 187/49)

what's been going on...

Katelyn is standing now!  Ok, so its here and there and not that often but if you get her in the right mood - she'll stand on her own for a good 5-10seconds!  I want to say "walking, here we come!" but she was so stubborn about actually crawling with her tummy off the ground that I'm not holding my breath.  But it's really exciting nonetheless!  When Tyler was a couple weeks shy of his 1st birthday (right about where Katelyn is right now...) he started walking!  So we'll see what happens...

With Katelyn's 1st birthday just a few weeks away, she seems to be aging so quickly!  She's always got that "I'm thinking about something..." look.  Compared to Tyler as a baby, I think she's much calmer/cooler.  But don't piss her off!  Even when she was really young, if you told her "no!" in a forceful tone, she'd look at you, sit on her butt and give you a really, sad, sad cry.  Right to the heart.  She knows how to work us!

This past weekend was my dad's 63rd birthday!  We headed over to Hacienda Heights for a late lunch.  It's always tricky trying to figure out travel logistics around Tyler and Katelyn's naps.  Katelyn still takes 2 naps a day (one around 9-11ish, and the other around 1-3ish) so it's tricky trying to get stuff done around those windows.  That morning Katelyn didn't go down for her nap until close to 10 and woke up close to noon.  Ack!  I felt bad that we were late and the food was getting cold on the table.  We'll need to plan better next time.

Anyway, here's my dad and Tyler!

Not the best picture but it'll have to do.  Michelle got a taro sheet cake.  I'm quite a picky eater (what? no, of course not..) and I don't like taro.  But I tried it anyway and WOW was I blown away - that sheet cake was d e l i c i o u s  !!  I couldn't remember why I didnt like taro, I just hadn't liked it in so long.  This is a breakthrough for me really.  I ended up having too many slices.  Tyler was all about helping blow out candles and Katelyn looks like she was getting in on it too!

My dad and Katelyn.  He does embody the jolly grandfather image, huh! :)

Katelyn and my mom.

Will and Katelyn.  Seriously, it is so hard to get a photo of her smiling lately, I dont know why.  She's gotten so serious when she sees the giant camera.

We ended up hanging out with my parents that afternoon until about 5pm.  What a mistake! Both kids fell asleep on the drive home and were up and energetic just a couple hours before bedtime!  Needless to say, bedtime was not pleasant and I will try my hardest not to let them nap so late next time!

Sunday we headed to Monterey Park to have lunch with Will's parents, grandmother and aunt.  Katelyn was so well behaved and ate a ton of food!

Oops, wrong picture order.  K usually eats more than Tyler does - no joke.  Here she is enjoying dumplings.

After lunch we headed back to Will's grandmother's place to hang out for a bit.  Katelyn was very curious of the new surroundings.  Here she is with Will's mom and grandmother.

And then one with Will's 3rd aunt.

And then another one outside in the yard with the sun shining right in their eyes!

Tyler was nice and friendly, playing with his great aunt and great grandmother.

Will's 3rd aunt even brought Tyler upstairs to look around.  Will actually grew up in this house when he was a kid, and you can still tell which room was his because it's got superman/batman/wonderwoman wall paper! Tyler was very excited to run back and tell us about the superhero wallpaper!  ... since when did he get into batman or spiderman? We don't watch those violent cartoons at home!

Again no smiles from Katelyn in front of the camera!

Here's Tyler hanging out on the stairs.  He was outside picking flowers for everyone!  Sometimes he's just so sweet!

On Monday we got a nice visit from our old friend Michael!  Will and Michael have been friends almost as long as Will and I have been dating!  They were both interns back in 99 at Charles Schwab.  Oh, we were so young back then!  Here they are with Tyler and Katelyn.

We even had a yummy dinner at Taiko.  Yum, I went with their salmon sashimi salad and California rolls!

Some random pictures this week...

Katelyn in real jeans!  My nanny Cheyenne put a pair of shoes on her and Katelyn was very perplexed.   We didn't keep them on for long.

What a big girl she is becoming!

My kids!  Just hanging around at home.

Ooh, Katelyn in a onesie!  When I see her in just a onesie, she reminds me of such a little baby!  Her and her chubby, baby thighs.

Katelyn is always so curious about what Tyler is up to.  Too bad Tyler isn't so great at sharing with her!

Here's some photos of Katelyn.

Work that hair!  What happened to her hair?  It used to stand straight up when it was shorter, but now it's completely stuck to her head.  Where'd all that volume go?  Baby mullet!

Plus it doesn't help that there are some long straggly hairs in the front too!  Maybe she needs a trim of some sort...

Yum.  Giraffe during bathtime is yummy.  Tyler insists on bathing with Katelyn whenever he can.  He loves playing in the water after she's out.

Finally a smile!  Too bad it's not a pleasant one heehee.

Which reminds me - I need to get Tyler's eyes checked out.  There was a school readiness screening at school and Tyler's left eye wasn't seeming so great.  Ack! No more iPhone for him!

Even Mojo got in a photo this week!

AWWWW the videos of them together are soOOO CUTE!! Tyler is so patient with her! Good boy!
They look alot alike, its so cute. WOW i can't believe she's old enough now that they can actually kinda play together. AMAZING!!

So what do you guys do with Tyler while Katelyn does her two naps? Do their nappings overlap? I bet it gets super boring for the older one when you're cooped up at home for naps for the younger one? We always stayed at home for naps for Avery, but I don't think you can do that as easily with an older toddler running amuck.

How did Tyler do when he first met his little baby sis? I'm a little nervous about that part

so cute! it's slightly easier when you can bathe them together, right? and yes, i totally think the babies look more grown up once you put jeans or "real clothes" on them! haha
