Energy. drained. SO TIRED! I'm quite proud of myself - I went into the office last Thursday and BOTH days this week! And I made it to my CSULB class today and also met with my graduate advisor! Whoohoo! But oh so tired. Must keep it up!
Can you believe that Katelyn's 1st birthday is only 1 month away? She's such a big girl now! Her new thing is making kissing sounds - mmmmmuah! She is nonstop moving all the time too - her favorite thing is to crawl up the stairs! It's really cute because she'll go up a couple steps and glance back at me to make sure I'm right behind her. Here she is enjoying some big girl finger foods at Soup Plantation!
Tyler was happy hanging out with his friend Dylan. They're in different classes at daycare so they don't get to hang out much anymore. So sad! Dylan and his little sister Madison are ridiculously well behaved. Sigh. I covet their good-listening skills for Tyler. hah!
Saturday was an exciting day - we headed out to Sea World in San Diego! Only bad thing about a long drive? - Katelyn having to stay in her carseat. Not fun. I've been trying to sit more in the passenger seat instead of in the back with the kids. Katelyn fussed for about 10 minutes and then fell asleep. YAY! But then we were hungry and drove-thru a McDonald's and Katelyn woke up. And was NOT happy. Can't wait until we can forward face her - I think she'll be much happier. Anyway, here are the kids ready to see some sea life!
Katelyn was ready to for some action too!
Group family picture right at the entrance! Tyler's standing on the rollerboard "piggy back" attachment to the stroller, perfect for him! We thought about getting the attachment that allows a second kid to sit behind the stroller, but what kid really wants to sit all squished on the bottom without a view?
Whoohoo- Tyler is growing! He really needed a haircut though - I think the tip of his spiky hair was about 2 inches higher than his forehead! :)
After watching Disney on Ice last month, Tyler has taken up pretend ice skating. Here he is with one leg up doing some ice skating of his own.
Very appropriate for the day's upcoming event: Tyler taking a photo with a giant penguin! He was bothered with the sun in his eye...
...and was much happier once he had his shades on. :)
Our first stop was the sea lions! Katelyn was very intrigued watching them hang out in the sun.
Will and Tyler and sea lions!
We even caught the sea lion show - Sea Lion Live, a spoof on SNL. It was actually pretty funny with silly jokes! Here's Will and Katelyn.
Me and the kids.
After the show we had lunch - where we saw a bird fly right into the glass window of the restaurant we were sitting outside at. The bird actually landed in someone's stroller! Thank goodness the bird seemed fine, just quite dazed! Next stop? Penguin experience! Ooooh so excited!
We had a small group, just us and another small family. The experience started out with a guided tour of the penguin exhibit. Penguins are so cute!
And then into the back employee-only area. Outside the exhibit they had life size cut outs of the different types of penguins. The largest one is the emperor penguin - and they're taller than Tyler!
Time to meet a penguin! They brought in a little 3 month old baby macaroni penguin. It was SO cute, his fur on his head was still fluffy!
Ok, I'll be honest, I had been pushing the penguin experience for "Tyler" but really I wanted to meet one! He was surprisingly soft to touch!
Tyler got to do a lot of petting too. Ahhh! It was so cute!
My original plan was to put Katelyn in my ergo baby carrier while I got my interaction on, but she was TOTALLY not interested. I made the sad realization that Katelyn has out outgrown the front carry with my ergo. Hopefully I'll have luck with her riding on my back! Anyway, as soon as she saw the penguin she started getting really antsy and wanting to pet it too! No fear!
We also got to see a super baby penguin in the penguin nursery. Look how fluffy and soft looking it is!
Last stop - checking out the penguin exhibit from the back! This was really exciting - usually you only get to see it from behind thick glass windows. It was COLD in there, and so many penguins just hanging out and waddling around.
In the picture below, check out the penguin right in the middle. He's a young emperor penguin that was born last year - which we were told was really rare. Really cute thing? - he had a posse of older emperor penguins following him around!
Here's Will and Katelyn. I love that we got to get so up close and personal!
Off to the side were pens with baby penguins not yet ready to mingle with the adults.
This emperor penguin was really sociable - he came right up to the glass and stood there staring at us. I love the yellowness of their necks, but dang they have sharp beaks!
I tried to get a group picture but Katelyn was too distracted by the nearby penguins...
Aren't they beautiful?
The rest of the week has been pretty relaxed. Here's Katelyn climbing up the stairs. Check out her jeggings!
When she's in just a onesie, Katelyn looks like such a little baby - but when she's in real clothes - oh my, she's on her way to being a big girl!
Katelyn hanging out in a hamper.
Video of Katelyn saying 'No' on command. Next time I need to get her making kissing noises and also nodding yes!
Cutest moment of the week - my nanny Cheyenne managing to get some pigtails into Katelyn's hair. Ouch. That was pain from just being TOO cute. hah!
Here's a better view. At first glance, I'm getting flashes of Shrek and his little ears...
We just need to work on growing more hair in the front!
And lastly here's a photo from Katelyn at the cheerio trough at school. So hygenic and un-germy huh?
Can you tell I'm super tired? What a boring-commentary post. I'll try to be better next week. Have a good week!
