This weekend we headed to the Great Park Pumpkin Harvest with friends. Parking cost $10 but the rest of the event was free. We had originally planned on heading to Irvine Park for their pumpkin patch, but nothing beats free! We were worried that it would be crazy packed (like how it was last Christmas for their snow day) but it was great! Of course, we got there a little before they opened at 10am.
Starting out, Tyler got to hang out with his buddy Dylan. These two have been friends since the infant room - they're like brothers! - they'll argue and stuff but I think they are going to be good friends as they get older. They're in different classes this year though (Dylan is 4 months older than Tyler, and the month cutoff between the two classes was right in the middle). Aren't they cute? Dylan's been to the Pumpkin Harvest before so he was telling Tyler about it!
Here are the boys again. Ready for the pumpkin patch, carnival games, arts and crafts, and petting zoo!
Our only family picture of the day. Darn, we need to get better at taking them! It actually rained that morning so we were all bundled up for the cold weather (which I love!). Katelyn even had tights on! Super cute!
If you step back a little and look at the picture, they really could be flying those airplanes! :)
Good morning Katelyn! My little baby is getting bigger and bigger - she was feeling REALLY heavy in the Ergo that morning...and really hot too! We're both heaters for each other, which is great when it's cold, but not so great when the weather heats up...
We had to wait on the other side of that hangar for them to let us in. It's pretty cool that this used to be El Toro air force base, and we were walking the same areas that jet planes used to land! Tyler really liked his fleece that I dug out of his closet - he kept saying it was really soft and he liked that there was a pocket in the front for him to keep his hands warm.
We went straight to the pumpkin patch. The perk of this event? - free pumpkins for all kids! Sweet! Will and I picked out two good sized ones (to be carved this week!). We didn't have a stroller with us so Will had to hike them back to the car. Tyler seemed to like little pumpkins. He has a perplexed expression in this picture.
Now he's just bored. LOTS of pumpkins! Good thing we got there early so we had a great selection. They had a large tent set up to decorate the pumpkins, but we decided to skip it because we were planning on carving them anyway.
Group shot of most of the kids!
Then all of a sudden, a guy dressed as a scarecrow ran across and threw hay up in the air. The kids were like ?? He was a nice friendly scarecrow though...
...and then the kids couldn't take their eyes off of him.
...even when he went behind them!
Tyler and Dylan had a lot of fun "scaring" the ScareCrow. I caught a little on my camera. Tyler is SO silly and excited and giddy. It took me forever to coax him away from the poor scarecrow... and then the boys ran back for a final "BOO!" to scare the scarecrow.
This guy below was a little creepy. We recognized him as one of the performers when the Great Park had a Cirque de Soleil show performing.
Tyler walked by and the guy dropped one of his juggling balls. Tyler (what a good kid!) picked it up for him. As he gave it to the guy, the guy dropped another one! This went on for a while and it was SO funny to watch. S O FUNNY! I only got a quick video at the tail end of it. My favorite part is where Tyler tells the guy to not drop it anymore or something!
I'm surprised Tyler wasn't afraid of the performer. I would have been a little freaked out!
After picking our pumpkins, we got to plant some seeds in these cute ceramic Disneyland mugs. Tyler picked Mickey for himself and Tinkerbell for Katelyn. It was a really cute craft, let's see if anything grows out of them though. Aside from the petting zoo (really long line - there was a zebra though!), there were many different booths set up by local organizations. The kids liked the OC Zoo booth since the zoologists had a few animals on display. When Tyler was petting the snake he said: "it, it smells through his tongue!". We were like, why yes it does! Smartypants.
Meanwhile, the weather was getting warmer and Katelyn was starting to feel heavier and hotter. The solution? Wear her on my back! It was MUCH cooler that way, but she wasn't as used to that position. I was starting to wish I had my stroller...
Here's Tyler doing some crafts - coloring in a paddle ball thing. He was pretty adamant about coloring it purple.
Busy coloring with Will!
Lots of different carnival games. This one they threw balls at a target. There was also golfing, fishing for rubber duckies, etc. My favorite part? Food trucks! I got a yummy cupcake from Frostings (I think that was their name) from Lake Forest. I love food trucks! It was pricey though, but yummy!
Cool bike rack huh! Next time we'll ride the Hot Air balloon - I wanted to this time but Tyler said it would be too 'scary'!
So I finally convinced Will to go get the stroller from the car. This was Katelyn's first time in my Kate Spade stroller! It was one of the very first things I bought when I found out I was pregnant with Tyler. Tyler loves to show off his baby sister - she is just so darn cute!
Super cute Katelyn - so warm and toasty!
Too adorable. LOVE her. Wish she would sleep better though... sleep training is so painful!
After we were finished with the pumpkin patch, we headed to a nearby Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Unknown to us, the author of the "If you give a..." children's book series was scheduled to do a book signing! I've never read any of her books but have heard of them. We (got suckered into!) purchasing a special 25th anniversary edition of "If you give a mouse a cookie.." for her to sign. We also got a mini version of "If you give a pig a party" that she signed as well. Here's Tyler getting his book signed!
Whew, what a day. Later that afternoon we took Tyler to get a much needed haircut. He wasn't too happy about it but he sat through it (without the bribery of an iPhone!).
And then we had delicious shaved ice at Mochillato afterward. Oooh this shaved ice is SO yummy. Green tea flavored with vanilla gelato in the middle. YUM! But ridiculously expensive, definitely not an everyday thing...
Sunday! We spent the morning at Target and Costco preparing for a playdate we were having later in the afternoon. Tyler's BFF Vincent and his family were visiting from Texas and we were so excited to see them! The boys picked up like they had never been apart. It was so cute! Here's Tyler, Vincent and their friend Cambria all in this little inflatable car. How they all fit in there WITH a ton of little plastic balls is beyond me. They were having a great time! (and making quite a mess! haha!)
We got Vincent this Buzz Lightyear action figure. We got one for Tyler also but didn't let him open it yet - it's sitting next to his reward magnet board - that's quite a prize for good behavior! Anyway, we had a little snafu in the beginning when Vincent was opening Buzz and Tyler got upset that he couldn't open his. (This was after Tyler was so excited that he pretty much unwrapped Vincent's Buzz!) It took some coaxing but Tyler actually didn't throw a huge tantrum. He was just upset and it took him some time to calm down. After that though, he was really excited to play with Vincent's Buzz. So excited, in fact, that, as he was playing, he looked up at me and said "pee pee!!". The kid had peed his pants in his excitement of playing with Buzz! Ahhh! Way to go Tyler...
While we all hung out in the living room while the kids played, Katelyn was WONDERFUL and just bounced around in her Jumperoo. Seriously, she is so wonderful that everyone always wants to hold her. I welcome the break!
Thank goodness it was still warm enough to play in the yard. The kids have so much energy!
Break for lunch...
I rolled out Katelyn's high chair and she was great - just chilled there eating her wagon wheels and puffs while the rest of us had dinner. She loves to just look around and take everything in!
Love our backyard. It's so kid friendly!
This was one of my favorite pictures of the day - Tyler and Vincent hanging out in the car, each with a juice box, just enjoying each other's company. Love it!
And, if you know us, we're all about the group picture!
...and a silly shot!
It was so good seeing Vincent and Julie again! Julie was my first mommy friend and Vincent was Tyler's first friend period!
Can't wait to show them this photo when they're teenagers or getting married or something! :)
Alright, onto other photos from the week. This one was from last week that somehow didn't make it in. Katelyn all bundled up at school - it was REALLY cold last week! The funniest part was when Katelyn crawled up to some little boys and they were really mesmerized by her furry hat (so mesmerized, in fact, that they didn't notice her take their toy away!)
Yesterday Miss Vanessa brought Tyler over to see Katelyn in the infant room. These pictures that the teachers took were SO cute! This photo must have been right when Tyler got there - Katelyn was sitting with a teacher playing with toys and looks so excited to see her big brother!
OMG how cute is this picture? They love each other! I still can't believe how wonderfully sweet Tyler is to his baby sister. I hope he'll always love and look out for her like this!
The teachers always tell me that Katelyn gets so excited and happy when Tyler comes to visit. SO adorable! Lately she hasn't been finishing all her bottles so I've been giving her less. I feel guilty that I'm not sending full 4.5 ounce bottles anymore, but that's wasted breastmilk! At least we're almost at the 8 month mark - only 4 more months of exclusively breastfeeding left! Yay!
And some random photos from home. Katelyn loves her lovie. She gets so excited to see it!
She loves to chew on the lamb's head and ears. Sometimes she'll hold an ear in each hand, and just stroke them. It's so cute!
Good thing I bought like 6 of them or something... they weren't cheap though (not like Tyler's which I got on clearance at Target)!
Katelyn is a huge fan of electronics. No idea why. Anytime anything electronic is in her sights, she speedily scoots on over and has to check it out. This goes for any cell phone, remote control, phone or baby monitor!
I love this knit donut rattle. I was trying to get a photo of her biting it (she bites everything!) so that it would look like she was eating a donut. No luck yet...
Check out my teeth! Katelyn officially has 6 teeth that have poked out and I am certain she is working on another. Her top front two teeth are so large and there's a gap in the middle! Ahh! I shouldn't be worried, should I?
This photo was just to show the state of her hair. Very wispy. Standing straight up on the top of her head. And light! Strange. Will's mom insists her hair stood straight up too when she was an infant...
And another one, just because she is growing up so fast. 8 months! I still remember when she was only 3 months and so fragile...and sleeping through the night. SIGH!
Seriously, that hair sticks straight up!
With the cold weather, Tyler has gotten to wear his Woody the Cowboy pajamas. They were a birthday present for him, and are SO cute! He's got a little identity crisis going on here though - because he's got a Buzz Lightyear backpack on! Love that the backpack has wings that can fold in and out. Saves me from having to buy him wings for his Halloween costume! Best part? Got the backpack on clearance at JcPenney's.com for $11.99. Such a good deal!
Excitedly, Tyler is starting to eat more vegetables. We've laid down some rules and there's no cajoling and bribing him to be good anymore. We were definitely too lenient with him before and he didn't realize who was the boss! Sometimes we'll still try to have fun with him though. Here's Will using a dancing-Katelyn to entice Tyler to eat his carrots. He ate a good amount that night - then proceeded to puke it all up in the middle of the night in bed. Hmmm - could it be his stomach rejecting so much vegetables at once?
I've picked up some books at the library to read to Tyler. I forgot how convenient libraries were! I brought Cheyenne and K out with me today to pick up some more books I had placed on hold. How cute are they? I remember buying that hat on clearance at Old Navy and it seemed way too big. Now it's great on her!
Mmmm. love to chew on these little balls!
Whatcha smiling at? She was playing with Will's mom They are great with the kids.
Tyler and Katelyn with their grandparents!
And lastly, a much missed get-together with my girls. Haven't seen them since my birthday a month ago. Yes, things have so busy lately, but I'm so glad we got to hang out!
Wish us luck on the sleep training. I'm already feeling sick to my stomach about what we have to do! Let's hope I have good news to report next week. sniff sniff.
