School photos and Halloween!! (Week 173/35)

Happy Halloween!  Even though Halloween was only this past weekend, it feels like SUCH a long time ago.  Definitely a sign that time is passing by too quickly.  We've got a lot of photos this week - school pictures came in, a Halloween birthday party, and of course, Trick-or-Treating!

Let's start with a super cute and adorable photo of Katelyn.  Really Katelyn?  I was trying to find a picture of Tyler wearing it when he was a baby in the blog archives, and got distracted reading the old postings.  I LOVE that I can look back to any week and see what was going on that week.  He only had 2 teeth vs Katelyn's 6!

School pictures came back!  The first two are Tyler's - they had one each for the Tu/Th and the M/W/F part time kids.  The full time kids (like Tyler) got to be in both!  (...but it also meant we ended up buying both photos - and they're really overpriced!).

I didn't know they were going to be taking photos on Friday - so Tyler wasn't even wearing a nice shirt or anything..how weird is it that one of the girls (Chloe) has her head down in both photos?

Katelyn's infant room photo!  This is the Tu/Th class.  How cute are they?!

Tyler's photo with Katelyn.  Yeah, I didn't buy this one - not too flattering for either!  Katelyn looks so scared!  She had one super short nap that day so I'm not surprised. :(

Tyler, on the other hand, did a great job!  I was really worried about giant fake plastic smiles.  But look - they're actually quite natural (natural for Tyler anyway!)  He's such a big boy!

His little dimple is even showing a bit!

Love this one!  So grown up!

Here's Katelyn doing water play at school!  This past week there's been a crazy heat wave - CRAZY heat wave I tell ya, and the babies got to do some water play.  I love it when the teachers take photos of Katelyn, love seeing what things they did that day!

Sometimes when I pick up Tyler from school, I watch him play for a bit before he realizes I'm there.  It's nice to see him interacting with his friends.  Here they're playing dump trucks in the sand.  Favorite moment?  When he sees me and is so excited and runs to give me a big hug!

Here's Tyler doing some drawing at school.  Hey... is that marker in his left hand?  hmmm... apparently he can sit there and draw for really long periods of time.  The teachers say he has a long attention span when it comes to drawing (eh, not so much with other things).  And I use the term 'drawing' lightly, because it's really him just taking different colors and scribbling!

To celebrate Halloween, the infant room did some sensory activities with pumpkin pulp!  Hah!  Katelyn looks a little concerned looking at the gooey orange stuff...

Hey!  She likes it! :)  Mmmm.. pumpkin seeds.  The pumpkin seeds from our two Halloween pumpkins are gone.  They were delicious!  I boiled them in some salt water before baking them with some garlic salt.  O M G they were SO good.  I was sad to see them go.

Last Thursday Tyler's school got to go trick or treating at City Hall.  Definitely one of the perks from being right across the street from them!  Tyler was SO excited to wear his Buzz Lightyear costume.  I had gotten it back in early October but hadn't showed it to him due to his behavior.  He LOVED it!

Here's Tyler with his friend Catherine at school.  Jesse and Buzz!

Strike a pose Tyler!  He's shooting his laser...

Buzz Lightyear was quite popular in Tyler's class.  I think Tyler was still the cutest though!  Is this photo kind of like Charlie's Angels?  hah!

The kids were excited to see each other all in costume.  I think this is when they're really starting to understand Halloween.

Some photos from class as they were waiting their turn to head to City Hall.  (The older kids - pre3 and pre 4 - went first since apparently they're more efficient and will get in/out quicker!)

Here they are all sitting in their group time spots.  Tyler's right up at the front!  They're waiting so patiently! :)

Trick or treating at City Hall!  This is actually the Irvine Police Department, which is connected to City Hall.  Here's Tyler and his friend Kaelyn. (Yes, like Katelyn but without a 'T'.  Kaelyn has an older sister Karissa - super cute, and a younger sister Kourtney who is only a couple months older than Katelyn.  They hang out together in the baby room!)

Tyler and his buddies Kaden and Elijah.  Superheroes!

The trick or treating that day was good practice for Tyler.  I'm glad my job is flexible enough that I got to go and hang out with them!

Tyler and me!

Ready for more loot!

Tyler's ICDC Pre-2 group shot!

And heading back to school...it was really fun!  You wouldn't believe how many bags of pretzels they got!  Tyler wasn't interested in any of the treats - except a bag of gummies!  Hah!  He was looking through his bag, quite disappointed, until he came across the gummies.  Good for him that he doesn't eat chocolate and candy.  Not so good for me!

Here's a short video of Tyler trick-or-treating with his class at city hall:

This is a short video I added in also of trick or treating.  Tyler saw his favorite teacher upstairs and was saying Hi to her.  It was really cute

Saturday morning we headed to a nearby park for a Halloween birthday party!  Tyler was very excited to wear his Buzz Lightyear costume again.  Here he is playing in the park.

The birthday girl Maddie!  It was a Toy Story themed party - how perfect!

The facilities at the park were really nice.  They had little tables and chairs set up for the kids - perfect!  The kids started out drawing and playing at the tables.  How wonderful - keep the kids occupied so the parents can hang out! haha!

Then it was lunch time at the tables as well.  Love that the kids can sit there and eat by themselves.  The juice boxes were fruit/vegetable drinks.  And they were good! I'll definitely have to get some for Tyler!

Look who came to visit!  Woody!  Ok, yeah, definitely a little weird with the paper machete head and everything.  Plus it was a girl in there because her hair was sticking out in the back!  Hmmm...

The kids played with a parachute thing.  I remember playing with these things as a kid, and I seriously can't remember what was so fun about it.  Just standing there shaking it?  Who knows.  Tyler was very serious and into it though!

Then they played Red Light, Green Light!  I didn't even know Tyler knew how to play this game!

Go Tyler go!

And here's Tyler just hanging out.

Playing limbo with Woody and Jesse!  The kids just had fun going back and forth under the rope.  No complaints from me - kept the kids occupied! :)

Here's Tyler playing with the big kids.  These boys are both 5-6 I think.  He looks so little!  At one point Tyler looked like he was getting pretty rough with one of them.  I think the kid had playfully bumped Tyler and Tyler got upset and started trying to shove him back.  I don't think the older kid was even phased.  I went over there and told Tyler he needed to be gentle (hm, maybe not the right word to use?) and the kid was like - "oh, that didn't hurt" or something.

This was really funny.  The Woody and Jesse characters had brought a little radio to play music and the kids had discovered they had a CD of a Toy Story story.  So they gathered around really quietly so they could listen to it.  I thought this was so weird, that they had this attention span to sit there and not move and listen quietly when there was a party going on!

Here's me and Katelyn with Woody and Jesse.

They also made balloon animals.  Tyler got a pink sword.  Yes, a PINK sword...

I had to post this picture just so we could see Katelyn's hair.  What hair?  She might as well be bald!

When she gets hot though, it gets a little damp and then will lie flat against her scalp.  Then you an actually see it!  Her hair is so light!

At some point Tyler discovered a jar of green army men at the tables.  I was looking for him and found him quietly playing.

And here he was just being silly.  It was a fun birthday party!

Fast forward...  Halloween costumes!  We are the worst second-time parents.  Tyler got studio portraits EVERY month of his first year and for every holiday.  Poor Katelyn is totally getting short changed!  Sigh.  Hopefully she won't resent us for it when she gets older!

Costume #1.  Buzz and a green alien.  Not successful.  The alien suit was super tight and the head mask was super huge.  This was cute though, Katelyn touching Tyler's face.

Tyler as Buzz, and Katelyn as an alien!  In the photo on the right, Katelyn must be thinking "the CLAW is coming..."

Costume #2.  Bunny Katelyn!  I could barely squeeze her into this thing and it was 6-12 months.  Perfect use of the prop though Katelyn!

Costume #3.  I had the highest hopes for this one . 6-12 months.  This thing was HUGE!  The hat wouldn't stay on (shoot it fit Tyler's head better!) and the suit, at its tightest, was still humongous.  Plus, this is not even the correct shape for a strawberry!  Sigh.  The week preceeding this - everytime I mentioned that Katelyn was going to be a strawberry - Tyler would say something like "I LIKE strawberries!  I'm gonna eat her up!"

Getting ready for some real trick-or-treating.  Halloween family picture!  Katelyn's not really in a costume - I just wanted her to be warm.

Me with the kids!

Tyler loves Katelyn and Katelyn loves Tyler. I hope they will be close as they grow older.  This morning, Katelyn saw Tyler and I SWEAR said "guh guh".  Heehee.  Helped snap Tyler out of a grouchy mood too!

All bundled up and ready to go!  I originally had planned to put her in the stroller but I couldn't get her buckled in (yes I was too lazy to loosen the straps, hah!) so I just held her.  She was happier that way since she could see more.  I thought about wearing her, but in that suit, I think we both would have been sweating a lot!

Tyler was SO excited.  We had picked up a battery operated glow stick earlier that day at Bed Bath and Beyond - perfect for trick or treating!  He wore it around his neck.

First stop was our neighbors - the Oleski's. Good job Tyler!

Tyler had a great time the rest of the night.  I wanted to finish early so we could pass out candy of our own but Tyler was too into it.  He doesn't even eat candy, but he likes the process of getting it anyway.

Yummm... look at all this candy for mommy!

He was all about ringing doorbells.  There were SO many kids and their parents out and about in our neighborhood. SO MANY.

...maybe it was because of the haunted house down the street?  I am not a fan of scary stuff so we didn't go into the haunted house. But Will did take Tyler to the front door for trick or treating.  To get there, you have to walk up this ramp and stuff:  there was a scary scarecrow with a Jack-o-Lantern head that would move that, amazingly, Tyler wasn't afraid of (he laughed and used his pretend lasers on his costume to shoot it!).  But at the front door there was this giant spider that would drop down.  Not sure if Tyler was scared, but Will said he just stood there and stared at it for a long time!

By the time we convinced Tyler to go back home, it had gotten late and there weren't so many kids out and about anymore.  We had maybe 4-5 kids show up, and Tyler was really bummed because he LOVED handing out the candy.  Darn! This kid below we had actually seen earlier in the night.  He got out of a car with his mom and Tyler looked scared (shoot I was scared too!).  The kid had something that made his talking/breathing sound really monster/scary like.  Tyler started to run away from him!  Not good.  I talked to the mom and she was really nice and had her son pull up his mask so that Tyler could see it was just a little boy underneath.  Tyler was still scared, until the boy came up and shook his hand.  Whew!  Tyler wasn't scared anymore. :)

More trick or treaters!

Silly Tyler.  He said he was being an "alien".

Buzz Lightyear, Space Ranger!

Tyler was 'shooting lasers' with the glowsticks, but doesn't it look like he's doing some hard core rapping? Hah!

Click on the following picture to see the animated rapping version of the two photos above!

You can't have Halloween without pumpkins!  This was the first year that I carved my own pumpkin!  Mine is on the left, Will's is on the right.  Which Buzz do you like better?!

Video of Tyler on Halloween acting silly:

Video of Tyler handing out candy.  He is sitting patiently on the stairs, tells Mojo the candy is not for him!

Whew, what a Halloween!  On other news, last week we transitioned Katelyn to a convertible carseat.  Her infant car seat she had totally outgrown, and I got this Britax for $100 (normally $169!).  Whoohoo. Plus it's pink and brown!  Love it!  She's still in the infant seat in my car though (which she doesn't sit in as much...)

Katelyn is getting on her knees a lot more now.  She may actually start really crawling and not army crawling!  I was beginning to think she was going to skip it altogether!

Video of Katelyn crawling after a water bottle... yup, with all her toys, she still loves to go after plastic bottles!

Mmmm...eating a green bean.  I think we're going to start canned peas soon!  I was reading what was going on with Tyler around this time and we had started him on peas, cantaloupe and peaches.  Finger foods!

K is super mobile now, thanks to her walker.  She's gotten really good at moving around in this thing.  Although, there is this one part of the kitchen that is pretty narrow.  I watched her maneuvering through it once and it totally reminded me of Austin Powers - the part where he was in a little cart trying to change direction in a narrow hall. Haha!

And she is SO interested in drawers and cabinets!  Tyler never really showed much interest when he was little, but Katelyn is all about opening drawers!  Sometimes I'll see her walk off with the hand drying towels we hang in front of the oven!

Time to say goodbye to the papasan swing.  It wasn't as bittersweet as it was when we did it for Tyler though.  Tyler LOVED this swing.  Katelyn not so much.

She did like looking at the birds and leaves move around though...

Here are some photos my nanny took on a walk they took.  She put Katelyn on a swing!  Her first time!  She said that when she actually swung in it, Katelyn loved it and would squeal excitedly.  So cute!

Little red riding hood.

So cute!  She looks better with hoods/hats I think - then you can't tell how little hair she has!

Some miscellaneous photos...

I was trying to get a photo of the rocket ship he had painted on his arm, but he was just being crazy for the camera.

A picture of Will and I!

Tyler very excited to wear his rain boots (which he insisted on taking off at the restaurant...)

Mmm... yum.  Katelyn keeping herself busy while we had breakfast.

All bundled up and warm Katelyn!

Whew, what a week.  We're going to take it easy this weekend!
