This past week Will turned 34 (on Sat) and I turned 30 (yesterday Tuesday). Another year gone by. Crazy that we met when I was only 17 (almost 18 though). We've now been married 6 out of the 12 years we've been together too! Yay us! :)
Friday night we headed up to dinner in Monterey Park. We never go that far for dinner, especially on a week night. Traffic sucked - 1.5+ hrs going up. Exhausting, especially since Katelyn is not a fan of taking naps in her car seat. Not fun. Katelyn and Tyler was REALLY well behaved though. We brought Katelyn's traveling high chair and she loved sitting there and eating her yum yums. She was so cute! She was so cute that, at one point when Will's dad was holding her, some random Chinese grandmother came up and kept gushing about how cute she was and asked if she could take a picture of her. Hah! Yes, she really is THAT cute!
On the way home, Katelyn started getting fussy. Tyler was pretty content watching his DVDs. When Katelyn started fussing, Tyler reached over and held her hand to calm her down. It was so cute!
Saturday one of our friends dropped by a lovely cake for us in the morning. It was YUMMY, from the Hawaiian bread bakery in Torrance. It was a super sweet gesture! And a really yummy cake.
We were brave enough that day to attempt a date night! My nanny Cheyenne came by at 2pm and Will/I headed off to watch a 3pm showing of Easy A at Metro Pointe near South Coast Plaza. Cute movie (even though it's about high schoolers!). Then we had a ridiculously delicious dinner at Anjin. LOVE that place. Here's Cheyenne with the kids. Tyler was a good boy! Amazingly, I felt totally comfortable and not worried at all leaving Cheyenne with both kids. Maybe next time we'll even stay out past their bedtime and have her put them down? (GASP!)
We almost didn't end up at Anjin because we missed their first seating at 5pm. We looked around on Yelp and were about to eat at a nearby sushi place... but then decided to wait until 6pm for Anjin. It's THAT good. Oh my, we were so hungry (had skipped lunch) that we racked up quite a bill - but oh it was so delicious! When we got home, Tyler didn't like the BBQ smell that we reeked of...
On Sunday we had some family visit. My cousin Aileen was visiting SoCal from the Bay Area and had come down to see my grandmother who also lives in Irvine. They stopped by with my Uncle/Aunt, her husband and their new baby boy Miles. Here's my uncle and aunt with Katelyn.
She's really a mellow baby - doesn't mind people she doesn't know holding her ... YET? My Uncle was actually really good with Tyler - they were testing each other on letters and Tyler was showing him all his trains and cars. I was pleasantly surprised. There was an incident last year where my Uncle scared Tyler so bad that he ran screaming and crying into a restaurant parking lot. Yes. They've both gotten better since then I guess! :)
Here we are with Aileen and her family. It was SO hot that day, even with the air conditioning on in the house we were sweating. Miles is only 3 1/2 months, and I barely remember Katelyn being at that age. I can't believe she's almost 7 months (on Sunday!). Her first year is now officially more than half way over. She'll be 1 soon and walking, and talking, and ... Ahhh! She won't be a baby anymore! Sniff sniff. I won't need to pump anymore! Yippee! Hmm...I haven't accepted that there will be no more babies...we'll have to revisit that later on...
That afternoon we headed out to Chino Hills. Yes - CHINO Hills. Boonies. Hah! The drive was not fun, especially with traffic on the 91 and an accident. I'm complaining about the drive and I wasn't even driving. We were headed to the birthday party of my best friend from college - so how could we not go! It was still super hot. The party was at this fancy country club in Chino Hills - it really felt like we were in empty-hill-wilderness with giant houses speckled here and there. Here's Will and K.
Here's a picture of me with the birthday girl Shirley (in the middle) and our friend Ruby. Ruby is pregnant with her second and I still remember rubbing her belly when she was pregnant with her first. I'm still sleep deprived enough to not want to be pregnant again. But...
I'm so glad we made it out because we had a LOT of fun. Will and I rarely rarely rarely take the kids out at night. VERY rarely. But there are exceptions! The party was super fun - after nursing her around 8pm I got to join in on the alcoholic festivities. I couldn't even tell you the last time I had a drink. Or the last time that I even took a few shots! Ahhh, it was GREAT fun. Here's Shirley holding K.
Group shot! Oh my, the food was delicious. I had a rib eye that literally melted in my mouth. I was told later that it was um, probably really rare...which I didn't notice because of the sauce. But it sure was yummy!
I have no idea how people party on a Sunday night. Seriously. Do they not have to work the next day? We were all quite tired the next morning. And it didn't help that it was ferociously hot. RIDICULOUSLY. When I went to pick up Tyler at school, none of the kids were in the playground due to the heat. What were they doing? Playing inside - pretend nap time. It was super cute. Here's Tyler with his friend Kaelyn (yes! Kaelyn without a "t"!) playing, and she's patting him to sleep. A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!
Here's a video of pretend nap time!
Some random pictures of the week:
Katelyn is seriously mobile now. She may not pick her tummy off the ground and crawl on her knees, but she does the army crawl ferociously. I'll try to include a video next week. Because of this we've put up the baby gates. She loves her sophie (the giraffe) and squeals when she sees/hears it!
Tyler has been really aggressive lately. Super cute and fun at times...and really angry. We're working on things with time-outs, and taps on the back of his hand. He must get his temper from me. Seriously! However, he's mostly a great kid, so I can't complain!
Here he is playing his guitar.
Maybe it's time to start him on violin lessons...
Video of Tyler Rockin' out on his guitar!
Katelyn simply ADORES her big brother. She laughs and squeals whenever she sees him. When she sees him, she just can't take her eyes off of him. This is especially troublesome when I'm trying to nurse her and Tyler is jumping around. I hope they will be good friends as they grow older. So far Tyler is ridiculously sweet with her...except when she gets near any of his toys. Hmm..
Love the spiky hair!
Ooh, a baby lizard got into our house near the front door. It would have been gross if it wasn't a baby, haha!
Katelyn now officially has 5 teeth. Wha? We had just confirmed her 3rd one was out and her 4th one was starting to come out... and then my nanny pointed out that there was a tooth next to her bottom left one! It wasn't even starting to poke out, it was fully out. Hmm - maybe that explains the ridiculously little amounts of sleep we had for a number of days last week. Sigh.
And last but not least, a picture of my girls. We've all been so busy with different things that it has been TOO long since we've gotten together. Ahhh, such is life. We'll have to make a better effort - it's so easy to let weeks fly by. We went out to dinner on Tuesday for my birthday (after the babies were all in bed of course) at this place in Costa Mesa called California Shabu Shabu. I had this kobe beef for my hot pot and it was delicious! Plus, we had lots of sake on the house. We were wondering why it was so yummy until we found out it was sake mixed with Calpico. Aha!
Have a good week everyone!
