An Alice-in-Wonderland Bday Party! (Week 169/31)

Hello there! Weird weather we've been having - last week it was 110+ degrees here and our air conditioning/ceiling fans were on full blast.  This week I've got Katelyn in footed pajamas and thinking of pulling out a thicker blanket!  I'm not complaining though, LOVE the cold weather!

I thought I'd start out this week's post with some photos of Katelyn at school.  She only goes 2 days a week but I think it's good for her to get used to being around other kids and having other people watch her.  She's been doing well so far except that she takes really short naps.  I go into work (I really try anyway!) those two days so it works out for everyone.

Here's Katelyn hanging out with some friends outside.  I love watching her with other kids - she's always so curious.  I'm pretty sure she's a good number of months younger than the little boy next to her!

I'm not quite sure what they're doing here - maybe some sort of sensory activity?  This is why the kids get sick!  They even had water play when it got really hot!

Heehee.  Here's Katelyn staking her claim on a toy.  They rotate the toys at school so there's always new things for them to play with.

Caught red handed chewing on a cup!

Finger painting time.  Love it!

This isn't Tyler, I promise.  This is just how Katelyn explores - with her tongue!  Katelyn is SO curious now.  Aside from her scooting around everywhere, she is always on the look out for new electronics.  Seriously.  Her eyes light up when she sees a remote control or a cell phone.  She'll lazily scoot towards a toy but when you wave an iPhone in front of her...she's on fast-forward to get to it!

Friday Will and I got to lunch together.  Amazing, just the two of us.  We went to this revolving sushi bar in Irvine called Sushilicious.  It was yummy and not pricey either, but I was most stoked for the nice lunch we got to have together.  Uhoh, that one date (ok afternoon) night we had for our birthdays may have released a flood gate - it's so nice spending time alone together!

Saturday morning we headed to a birthday party for one of Tyler's friend - a little girl named Catherine.  She is adorable!  I still remember her when she started in the toddler room and wasn't walking yet, and now she's running around playing with Tyler.  They are so cute - she calls him "Ty-ty" and he somehow pronounces her name with a "cha-chwin".  I have no idea.  Very cute party - there were characters of Alice, the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts.  I think most of the kids weren't aware of the Alice in Wonderland story though.

Things started with the kids making top hats for their tea party.  Tyler was very excited about the "shinies" (plastic gems) that he could stick on his hat.  OK, so i decorated his hat more than him, but still it was fun.

Tyler wasn't feeling the Mad Hatter.  The guy was kind of sweaty and crazy - probably ideal for someone impersonating the Mad Hatter...but not so welcoming to a 3 year old who has no idea who he is.  Tyler was not interested in taking a photo!

We tried again.  Tyler was fine as long as I stood between them.  heehee.

It was nice to have the characters there - they had lots of different games set up for the kids so us parents got to stand around and chat!  Fun!  Here's Tyler and his friends Jack and Zane.  Zane is a day older than Tyler and like 2 inches taller.  His mom is like almost 6 feet or something!

I think Alice was talking about finding the imaginary white rabbit here.  She was pointing at it and all the kids seemed kind of confused.  Then she asked, what are we looking at?  And Tyler shouted out: "Bunny!".  Good imagination Tyler!  Check out the twin girls behind Tyler - they are so cute!

Here's Tyler and his friend Elijah.  People used to mistake one for the other.  Do they look alike?

After all the games, we headed inside to the clubhouse.  It was decorated really cute - like a tea party!  The kids all had goblets with little "drink this" cards attached just like the story.

I remember thinking this was the first party we had been to where the kids weren't using juice boxes or sippy cups.  A sign that they're getting older and not so prone to spilling!  Here are the boys at their tea party. :)

More games outside.  I remember playing something like this when I was a kid.  Tyler LOVED it!  He was really into and was shaking the parachute thing ferociously.

Loving it!

All the kids had lunch bags with treats inside with "eat me" cards.  Super cute.  Darn, we didn't get photos of the cute Alice in Wonderland cupcakes - they were really cute too!

The boys were really excited with their balloon swords.  REALLY excited.  Here's Tyler and his friend Nate playing outside.  Nate is laughing the whole time but Tyler looks like he's really serious about his combat moves.  Later his balloon sword popped.  Tyler was very sad, but Will convinced the Mad Hatter (aka balloon artist) to make another sword for Tyler on the DL.  (It had to be on the DL since all the other kids were popping their balloons and the guy didn't want to make a second one for everyone else!  Will said the Mad Hatter said OK because he saw how sad Tyler was!

Back at home Tyler finally started enjoying his hat.  He was very silly.

Katelyn LOVES to stand now.  We still have to keep a close eye on her, but she loves the feeling of standing.  Still not too interested in lifting her tummy off the ground when she crawls though...

Every day dinner is a mini battle with Tyler.  He gets so distracted and eats so slowly!  He even has days at school where he doesn't finish his lunch because he takes SO long or is so distracted playing.  Grrr.  He likes to feed Katelyn though - so cute!

Katelyn L O V E S Tyler.  She lights up whenever Tyler smiles and talks to her.  She laughs so shrilly - it is so cute!

Here's a picture of Will with the kids.  That morning, Tyler looked at Will and said - "we're wearing the same shirt!".  Close anyway.

On Sunday my parents came over to visit for a bit.  Katelyn was pretty open to my dad for once - no crying this time at all!  It must be that my dad is getting better at not speaking so loud...

Here's my mom with Tyler - he always likes it when we have visitors.  He must be so bored with us!

Katelyn had a good time playing with my mom and grandmother.  She showed them her crawling skills and gnawed on my mom's iPhone for a while.

Peekaboo!

heeheehee.  As you can tell, we've put up the baby gates in our family room again.  Our house is slowly reverting back to kid central.  Katelyn was getting too mobile and we needed to contain her!  She'll scoot from one corner to another and play with all the different toys.  It keeps her occupied!

Here's Katelyn just chilling.  Check out her thighs!

Hi Katelyn!  LOVE HER!

She loves her remote controls.  If you take it away she'll whimper.  Check out all her teeth.  5 completely out and one more on the way.  SIX teeth already.  ACK!

Here's a photo of Tyler today - he came home with cat whiskers drawn on his face!

Katelyn L O V E S food.  She can't get enough.  Shoot, I think that's why she keeps popping out teeth - to convince us that she's ready for more food!  We've realized that she likes her food cold.  How weird is that?  We'll actually even put her baby food jars in the fridge before she eats them - she'll seriously eat them like there's no tomorrow!

Oh yes!  Saturday night I got to celebrate my birthday again with dinner with my girlfriends.  Hey, it's my 30th - I'm allowed!  We had dinner at Roy's in Newport (yum).  It was really cute - they even had a sheet in the menu saying "Happy Birthday Kathy"!

See?  Awww, I feel special. :)

Birthday dessert!

Yes, that really says "Katy".  Blech.  By the way, no one is allowed to call Katelyn "Katie" ever.  I'll accept Kate but that's it!

The waiter at Roy's even took a picture for us on their camera and printed it out and put it in a little paper frame.  A full service birthday dinner! :)

Have a good week everyone!
