Irvine Spectrum, Golf, ICDC Family Fun Night! (Week 155/17)

Happy Summer everyone!

Man, it sure is getting hot these days.  I miss June gloom - huge fan of overcast and cold weather.  Tyler has been a handful lately - he goes days where he's super sweet, and then there are days where we're just fighting battle after battle with him.  He was getting sent to the office at school for not listening (gasp!) .  When he told me, I was like, why didn't you listen?  And his answer is always the same: "because I didn't want to".  Argh.  Lately though, he has been much better at school - he'll tell the teachers: "I don't want to go to the office, and mama will be happy".  Yes, Tyler, mama will be very happy.

Let's see what's been going on this week.  Katelyn still has not been sleeping well. I've been doing a lot of research about possible reasons and I've got a few ideas: 1) teething - she's drooling a ton and gnawing at everything.  At naps and night time sleeping there's nothing to distract her from the discomfort of it, hence she sleeps less. 2) 4 month sleep regression.  Its true!  I've been reading about it!  Something about the 4 month mark (she hits it on Sunday) where babies just start to act totally out of it with regards to sleeping/behavior!  Regardless, I sure hope this phase will go away soon.  I miss my calm, sleepy baby! :)

Friday after school we headed to Woodbury Town center for dinner with some of Tyler's friends.  Here's Tyler with his buddy Arden.  They are so cute together - must be because she's a girl - there's no pushing/shoving going on!
Silly faces at the fountain!  Hehe, I'm secretly glad that that's Tyler's silly face (fingers on his cheeks and sticking his tongue out).  It's not that pleasant when the kids are pulling their eyes/nose/mouth into weird shapes!
Ahhh, little kids and their electronics.  Tyler is now the owner of my old iPhone 3G.  Lucky kid huh!  Except the darned thing switches to headset mode without warning and he just has to wait it out for it to return back to speakers.  Seriously lame hardware issue with the 3G.  He knows that he's not allowed to touch my new iPhone, but this one he's allowed to look at when he's a good listener.  He was even willing to let his friend Evan watch Thomas on his iPhone while he played with their Thomas toy...I wasn't so sure about that...
There's this great big grassy area at the towncenter next to the food area - perfect for the kids to play in.  Tyler and Arden had a blast playing red light-green light.  Here they are at Green light!
Red light - Freeze Tyler!  (Did you know there was yellow light also?  I don't remember having yellow light back when we were kids!  It was really funny - the kids would move in slow motion! haha!)
There were these large potted plants clustered together and Tyler thought it was hilarious to crawl into the middle and hide there.  Tyler was calling it "hiding in the jungle".
Ooh, this was SO cute.  Tyler stood there with his arms outstretched and a big smile... and Arden came running into his arms!  SO adorable!  I love them together!
Saturday morning my inlaws came over for lunch.  We had soup dumplings that they had picked up that morning from a restaurant to be made at our place.  They were really yummy and Tyler ate like 8 or something!  He's going to be able to keep up with Will when he grows up - Will loves those soup dumplings also!  Tyler is so tricky - it was time for his nap and he convinced Will's dad to read him a story before he took his nap.  I went with them upstairs and told Tyler - one story only!  Later, I found out that after the story (a really long one he chose) he was showing Will's dad all the letters and numbers he knew by pointing them out on the posters in his room.  Will finally had to go in and tell Tyler to get into bed and close his eyes! Tyler's so sneaky - he knew Will's dad would just keep playing with him!  Here's Will's mom and Katelyn.
After Tyler's nap, we all headed to YogurtLand (yum) and then we went our separate ways.  We headed to Irvine Spectrum!  First time here with both kids and Will - this place is quite family oriented!  First, though, Tyler was really patient while I did some shopping.
And then we HAD to ride the trackless train they had going around.  When we first saw it coming our way, I tried to distract Tyler so he wouldn't notice (me: hey Tyler, look at that dress in the window, isn't it pretty? Tyler: huh?).  It didn't work.
It was a quick ride - just once around the little plaza!
And then after a quick dinner - a ride on the carousel!
Sunday morning we headed to Tyler's second golf lesson.  I could not get him to wear a polo for whatever reason that day - he kept saying the collar was too tight - sheesh!
In the hole!!
Tyler's swing form with the iron isn't great - but the coach was like - no worries - he's just learning the basics!  The funny this is that when Tyler hits the ball, he's so engrossed in watching the ball that he tunes everything and everyone else out!  So he'll hit it, and the coach (and me!) will be like: "club up! tippy toe!" and Tyler will just be staring at the ball that he hit until it stops and then look at us and be like, oh yeah!  Oh well, baby steps. :)  It's GREAT right now - 3 kids in our class - getting semi-private class for the cost of a full class!
That evening our friend Joan and her kids came by for a quick visit.  Things didn't go that smoothly since it was getting close to Tyler's bedtime.  It was good seeing them though!
Today (Wednesday) was ICDC's family fun night at Taco and Co.  Its a fundraiser where the restaurant will give 30% of their proceeds to the school.  I love these nights - you get to see Tyler's friends, teachers, and friends' parents.  Everyone is just hanging out and having fun.  Totally one of the reasons why I love our school.  Here's Tyler and his friends doing silly faces.
There's a Rite-Aid next door that you can get ice cream scoops for $1.29.  Just like we did when we were kids - walking down to Thrifty's after school for a scoop!  Tyler so rarely has ice cream.  He's a frozen yogurt fiend.   That and soft serve McDonald ice cream!  Will and him shared a scoop of French Vanilla.  Since Tyler is very new to ice cream, he doesn't really understand the whole "flavors" concept. When you ask him what flavor he wants, he'll say: "ice cream!!".  Hah!  I got pecan praline.  YUM.
Miscellaneous pictures from the week.

Katelyn is joining us for dinner now sometimes, in her bumbo!  In a couple months I'll need to dust off our old high chair from the garage when she starts solids.  Wow... really? already?  sniff sniff.
Heehee.  Will was outside with Tyler and popped Katelyn into the bjorn.  I am really into babywearing, and I love my ring sling and beco and babyhawk, etc... but I still think the Baby Bjorn is the EASIEST to use!  seriously!  I always feel slightly guilty when she is in it - but it's only short periods of time and I doubt any damage whatsoever is occurring!
Will and Tyler practicing some putting. :)  I'm loving these summer afternoons - there's still so much light left after dinner to play around in our backyard.  And I also LOVE our backyard.
Poor Katelyn is quite grumpy with her teething.  She's still gnawing on things like crazy and it only appeases her sometimes.  We've resorted to baby (generic) tylenol to help her sleep better at night.  Here she is chomping on Sophie.
This is what Tyler used to do!  We'd hang these rings on his carseat and he would hold one in each hand while he slept!  Katelyn will do that too - but right now she's into biting them too.  The textures must feel good against her sore gums.
Mojo.  I'm mad at Mojo and don't have many nice things to say about him right now.  Stop peeing on my couch mojo!  Sheesh!  I've been covering my couches up with thick sheets to protect them from his claws as he runs over them to look out the window - but lately he's been peeing on them! ARGH.
Don't make us have to make a hard decision!  Be a good kitty!
Alrightees.  Hope you guys will all have a great 4th of July long weekend!
