Happy 12 weeks Katelyn! Wow, time sure seemed to fly by - Katelyn is 12 weeks and I went back to work today. I can't believe how much she's grown and developed - she is so much fun to be around. How ironic that she's getting to be this super fun age, and I have to go back to work. Boo.
So I worked today (from home) and our new nanny Cheyenne started. I totally forgot to take a picture of her with Katelyn. But to be fair, Katelyn slept like the whole day away almost! I could hear them downstairs - Katelyn was in such a happy mood squealing and giggling. And Tyler liked Cheyenne this morning too!
Last week Katelyn had a playdate of her own - except that her friend is over a year so there wasn't much "playing" going on. Still, it was nice for me to get out of the house for a bit.
Since Katelyn is doing so great sleeping through the night (knock on wood, knock on wood), I even got to hang out at M's house and do our own mini happy hour and play PS3 Sing Star. Man, that game is fun! Seriously though, we put Katelyn down for bed around 9-10ish, and she'll sleep until 6-7ish! I know Tyler definitely didn't do that this early - maybe because we're not co-sleeping this time around...
On Friday we tried out this Japanese restaurant Tokyo Table located at the Diamond Jamboree plaza. I am a huge Japanese food fan lately - can't get enough sushi! It was actually quite a nice restaurant inside - very modern. Katelyn was great through the entire meal! Tyler was happy with his chicken and french fries. Plus, there's a Yogurtland in the plaza too! (Now we're up to 4 in Irvine!)
Look how big Katelyn is getting. She really likes the Papasan swing too now - she'll just swing in it and talk and babble to herself.
Saturday! Big day for Tyler. His first day at "Half Pint Basketball"! It's a toddler basketball program through the city of Irvine. It's for 3-5 year olds, and I actually had to talk to the athletic program coach to get Tyler in because he won't be 3 until July. I could have waited until a session later in the Summer, but he had friends in this one so I was determined for him to join. They basically just wanted to make sure he would be ok with five 5 year olds - which there were only 5/20 that were signed up so I figured we'd be fine. We told Tyler that sometimes people get bumped and not to get upset. This was perfect timing since we've been watching a lot of basketball because of the NBA playoffs!
Anyway, we hit up the park before basketball. Tyler was very excited about basketball and playing with his friends.
The playground had a little fort with binoculars!
This was in the big kid play area - seemed very "spider man" with all the climbing things.
No problem for Tyler and his buddy Dylan!
Class is starting! Here they are all lined up - from my viewpoint with the other moms. I would have been closer but I had to watch Katelyn in the stroller. (she was great again - slept almost the whole time!)
Ok, prepare for picture overload because it was just TOO cute! I don't know what it is- but seeing 3 year olds do basketball drills is just hilarious!
Everyone spread out - stand behind your own little cone! (It's Tyler and his buddies Dylan and Kaden).
And Stretch! and Stretch!
Kaden has a habit of getting a bit distracted. He didn't want to stretch and instead came over and stepped on Tyler's cone. He actually bent it - Tyler was upset and tried to pull it out from under Kaden's foot. I was holding my breath, worried we'd have a meltdown since his cone was smushed. But Tyler was fine - whew!
Oh, this is funny - the kids were warming up and following one of the coaches in a run around the court. Where's Tyler going? Follow the coach!
Time to practice dribbling. Tyler is NOT good at this at all. His definition of dribbling is: throwing the ball and watching it bounce away while he runs after it. We'll need to work on that.
More stretches and drills! Tyler was surprisingly a very good listener that day!
...until he gets distracted by Kaden...we had to separate them because Kaden wasn't into doing the drills and Tyler kept giggling at what he was doing.
Here's a quick video of Tyler doing some drills (and trying to be distracted by someone!) :)
Here's Tyler attempting to dribble. I don't think he realizes that he's not actually dribbling...
Water break!
And then lastly, shooting baskets! It was funny, Tyler has SUCH a weird way of shooting. I have no idea where he learned it from. He'll bend down real low and think long and hard before shooting. It's hilarious!
Go Tyler go!
Here's a video of Tyler's interesting basketball shooting technique. Yay Tyler!
Today was also the End-of-the-year celebration for Tyler's Pre-1 class. It was super fun! Last year Tyler "graduated" from the toddler room, but they were still so small that they couldn't do much. This year - catered Mexican food, a bounce house and a pinata! Oh, and the parents brought dessert so there was a TON of sweets to choose from. Tyler was all about the bounce house, of course.
Love these pictures - here's Tyler helping Madison up in the bounce house. Madison is Dylan's little sister and the most adorable little girl ever!
We make little breakfast burritos for Tyler on the weekends - so he was a pro at wrapping his tortilla up and eating it like a burrito.
Seriously, I am such a huge fan/supporter of our daycare. I love that we have these events where we get to mingle with other families - all the parents know each other and the teachers all know the siblings as well. I'm looking forward to Katelyn starting (when she's a little older though).
Here's our little table of friends. Since Tyler is one of the youngest in his class (a July birthday instead of a March birthday), he'll be going to Pre-2 next year. I'm pretty bummed because most of his friends that he plays with at school are March/April birthdays - and they're going to Pre-3. Ugh. I try not to let it bother me - I can't help it that he naturally plays with the older kids! I just tell myself that they'll still be playing all together in the big yard - but I'm still sad that these type of events I'll be missing out with our friends. Argh - I get more upset the more I think about it!
Tyler and his buddies Arden and Dylan. They're so silly together.
After dinner, pinata time! The kids all started out with a bag that was pre-filled with some goodies. I loved that it wasn't candy - Tyler doesn't eat candy at all!
Here's Tyler patiently waiting his turn.
He got a good couple whacks in!
Here's a quick video of his pinata bashing skills. Some of the older siblings really went to town with it!
Here's Tyler and his friend Elijah. Elijah is only at school part-time so they don't play together that much. Although, I think that might change since Tyler's friends are all going to be in a different class. :( Anyway, Tyler and Elijah get mistaken for each other a lot (??)
I guess I see some similarities? Elijah is half Japanese - half Korean. Tyler's in "ready position" that he learned from basketball - his new picture pose I guess?
Their little potty at school. Last week Tyler was actually having accidents at school - I want to say 2 days in a row and even once at home! Very strange, we couldn't figure out what was going on. Thank goodness he's been accident-free again. We talked to his teachers and they told us not to pressure him too much - accidents are bound to happen.
Mmm, dessert. Tyler was only interested in eating strawberries (we brought a big Buca-salad-sized bowl strawberries/blueberries/raspberry/blackberry salad) and orange jello. Totally not interested in the tons of other desserts to choose from. I, on the other hand, had Katelyn in a sling and couldn't really sit down and eat a taco with two hands...so I had my fill of different desserts. Sigh. Bad Kathy!
Tyler and Arden playing with bikes - so cute!
And lastly, one of the goodies in their bag. Haha!
Katelyn is becoming more and more interactive every day. She's more alert, always looking around, but really easy to put down for naps. She's usually awake about 1-2 hours before she gets quiet, starts sucking her thumb and is ready for a nap. Sometimes it's barely even an hour!
She LOVES it when people look at her, smile at her, and talk to her. She doesn't just smile, she giggles and snorts!
My chubby 12 week old...she's growing so fast!
Have a good week everyone! Kareen is visiting for the long weekend, and I'm so excited for the girls to meet!

basketball camp looks like a lot of fun!! i'm sure he'll get better at dribbling with more classes! i'm thinking about signing up jake at a sports camp near our house! katelyn will be so big when we meet her!
Wow...at first, 3 seems pretty early to be starting basketball, but judging from the pics and videos, Tyler and his friends obviously get it. I guess the idea is to get them used to the motor skills early on, so that by the time they're 5, team play will be a breeze, eh?
Great pictures of Katelyn. She DOES look like such a happy baby.
