Katelyn and Leah's first meeting and Lagoon BBQ!!! (Week 151-13)

Happy Memorial Day everyone! Be prepared...we've got a long post ahead - a lot went on this long weekend!  Most importantly, the girls met!  Yippee!  We were very excited for Kareen and Andy's visit - they haven't been down here since Christmas when we were both a few months out from having the babies.  Of course, we've Skyped almost every day during our maternity leaves, so I feel like I already know Leah - but I was really looking forward to holding her!

Hi girls!  Leah's on the left and Katelyn's on the right.  Super cute!  They're like the same size and everything!
Leah's quite a happy baby in these pictures!
The girls definitely have extremely different personalities though.  Katelyn is pretty darn mellow - she likes to just chill and look around at everything.  Leah likes to be held and rocked.  I think the difference is probably because Katelyn is a second baby and can't be held all the time (Tyler demands a lot of attention!).
Picture overload time!  Here's a picture of Kareen and myself with the girls.  Matching hair bows! Heehee!
The dads with the girls!  Both of our girls are lacking in the hair department.  To be expected I guess?  Kareen and I were both bald headed babies too!
Picture in the yard with both families.  Aww, we BOTH have families now.  Can't wait for a couple (or next?) years from now when there'll be another baby (or babies? hah!) in this picture!
Here's Kareen with both of the girls.  Aww man, I didn't get to take one of these!
We had prime rib and Korean BBQ that night.  Yummy.  Katelyn loves looking at our ceiling fans - we couldn't get her to look away!  Something so mesmerizing and amazing about them...
My dad LOVES this picture.  He has a picture almost identical to this from 30 years ago - except instead of Leah/Katelyn, he's holding Kareen/Me in each arm!  I should find that picture and put them side to side. :)  When we were taking this picture, Katelyn started getting really worried with everyone standing there laughing/smiling/trying to get them to smile.  She's usually really calm, but that was just too much for her!
With my mom!
My parents with the girls.  HAHA - Katelyn has such a funny look in this picture - she's just hanging out - super huge cheeks! heehee!
Ok, I know, seriously, how many pictures of the same thing am I going to post?  I can't help it - it was a big moment for us! :)
Here's my brother with Katelyn.  Really not a flattering picture of Katelyn, haha, but she can't always be super adorable in her pictures. :) hah!
Katelyn with Michelle - still mesmerized by that ceiling fan...
Aww, a little family picture.  She doesn't look so super chubby here (especially standing next to me, hah!).
Ok, last picture from our family reunion that day, I promise!  Group picture!  Aww, just missing my older sister and her family!
Kareen/Andy spent Friday night with us and we put Katelyn in our room in another crib.  Man, she did NOT like that.  She slept horribly that night - who knew a barely 3 month old baby had an opinion about where she sleeps!  I definitely did not like her in our room either - we were tiptoeing and whispering, etc.  Totally different from what we did with Tyler - who we co-slept with for who knows how long!

Saturday - basketball practice again!  Oops - we totally forgot to have Tyler practice his dribbling!  Here he is starting out with stretches.
Hmm, Tyler wasn't so into it this time.  About 15-20 minutes into it, he lost interest.  Oh no you don't!
So we took a little break and he hung out with me and Katelyn while we watched the other kids.  Hmm, I haven't seen those sunglasses since Saturday... uhoh.. where'd they go!
The drills they practiced were much more advanced today!  One of them they had to stand at a spot and try to knock the cones off a bucket.  My friend Marj and I actually thought that the kids were trying to throw the ball OVER the cones (we weren't listening, just watching, and none of the kids were getting even close to knocking them off).  Then when it was Tyler's turn, he knocked them ALL off on his first try!  I was like, OOPS!, but then everyone was cheering!  Yay! Go Tyler!
Shooting baskets.  Tyler's got hops! - check out the air he's getting! :)
Afterward we all went to a local McDonald's for lunch.  Did you know you can get 20 chicken McNuggets for $5?  And they have snack-sized McFlurrys too!  Katelyn was great and slept the whole time while we ate.
The boys were very excited to play in the outside eating area afterward (no playground here!).
This happened while I was still inside, or I would have been not-to-happy about the cleanliness factor here.  The boys are under a table, playing "spaceship".  It does kind of look like a spaceship huh!  They were talking about flying next to stars and stuff like that.  Cute!
The boys love to pretend they're shooting, "pew pew!".  But today they got to shoot water cannons at the asteroids that were going to hit the spaceship.  They're just not allowed to do that at school.  Or anywhere actually.  What is it with boys and guns?  For a while they got around it by making "ttsssss" sounds and saying they were shooting lasers, but that wasn't allowed anymore either.  Their new workaround?  Water cannons!  I don't think they're getting the point...here's Tyler shooting a water cannon at the other boys, hah!
Katelyn is pretty good at sitting in the bumbo now - still leans back a bit, but we're getting there.  Will took this picture and I was amazed at how much she looked like Tyler.  So much that I had to find his old picture!  Katelyn this week is 13 weeks, and Tyler's picture (on the right) is from his 14th week.  Same baby!
Tyler wanted to get in on the action again.  When we ask him if he remembers things, he'll say he does...but I dunno... Love this picture of Tyler though! - not sure how he squeezed his little butt into the Bumbo though.
Sunday we headed up in the morning to Alhambra for Leah's celebration lunch.  Wow, Alhambra is FAR!  And getting out of the house with a toddler and an infant takes a lot more time than I had anticipated.  Katelyn was SO cute - I put her in a little dress and a big bow.  LOVE the bow - AAAHHH!   I think I definitely like the oversized bows vs. the little ones.  But dang they're expensive!!  I need a place online to buy them much cheaper - or maybe I can make them myself?
Katelyn was great - she just chilled in her bassinet for most of the lunch at Almansor Court.  She even took a nap.  Which was perfect - because there was a lot of food!  Tyler was pretty good too - we were planning on meeting friends afterward for some water slide fun - so that was the carrot dangling in front of him!
Loving the bow on Katelyn!
And she's looking at the camera here!
Afterward the lunch, we headed home to get ready for our afternoon BBQ.  It was a long drive back (with traffic) and Tyler was pretty unhappy about being woken up when we got home.  Tyler has never liked being woken up from a nap - think TEMPER TANTRUM.  Ugh.  That was not fun to deal with.   Even the threat of not getting to play in the water didn't help until he finally calmed down.  Whew.

We headed over to Woodbridge, which is a community here in Irvine.  It was our first time at the lagoon - and it was super cute!  There are actually two lakes/lagoons in the community, so it wasn't even that crowded considering it was Memorial Day weekend (good thing our friend had gotten there early and gotten some picnic tables and a fire pit!).  The lagoon has a sandy area for the smaller kids and then it gets deeper in the middle.  Tyler LOVED it!  We actually had him in a swim shirt as well, but he insisted on taking it off when he saw his friends all bare chested.
LOVE it!
They had a couple waterslides as well.  I was going to combine the following pictures, but his expression is SO priceless that I had to separate them.  Tyler was so excited to go down the slide that he just ran right up when it was his turn and went.  Uhoh.  He didn't situate himself to go down straight, and he started turning on his butt as soon as he started sliding.  Really uhoh.  He's got a look of "AAAHHH!" going on.  HAHAH!
This one is really funny too.  Will and I couldn't help laughing when we saw these pictures.  Hilarious!
Poor Tyler - he ended up landing in the water head first!  Not a fan.  There were tears.  And no more sliding for him.  Chicken!  Hopefully he'll try again next time!
Afterward, Tyler was perfectly content in just playing around in the water.  The water is murky because of the sand.  Look how pale he is!
He liked just crawling around in the water too - it's great that the sandy area is shallow enough to do that!  He's like a hippo/alligator here - with just his head poking out, heehee.
It started getting a little windy so we got the kids out and changed out of their swim gear.  Thank goodness we're not using swim diapers anymore!  I LOVE watching the kids play together - love watching Tyler with his friends.  Here they are really excited about animal crackers.  Tyler's first time having one - Will and I were really surprised that he liked them.  He usually doesn't like sweets!
Next the kids played football.  It was so cute!  Check out Tyler's throw - I was quite impressed - the ball's got a nice arc going there!
The kids were great at listening too. They'd sit down and eagerly wait for the kid with the ball to throw it - then as soon as the ball was thrown they'd make a mad rush for it!  There was tackling involved.  Here's Tyler getting the ball (notice the tackled kid down on the ground!), and running with it!  Go Tyler!
Love this picture - he's like a little quarterback!  Maybe we should add football classes into his summer sports curriculum. :)
Total coincidence - bumped into Mariam at the lagoon!  Yay!  Here's Mariam with Katelyn.
As it got darker, we got ready for our bonfire.  I had Katelyn in my ring sling most of the time - it was getting cold!  I can't remember the last time I was at a campfire!  As soon as Katelyn is older, I'm totally looking forward to taking the kids camping!  Here's a picture of Katelyn/me with my friend Jenn and her son Kaden.
Smores!  Tyler was all about the graham crackers and blowing out the flaming marshmallows. :)  Yay, his first smores experience!!  Love it!  WE all smelled like smoke by the time we got home (9pm-ish!) and were very in need of a shower.  Tyler knocked out pretty quick.  What a fun Memorial Day Weekend!
A couple random pictures of Katelyn.  She LOVES to look in the mirror.  I'll smile at her and she'll smile huge back and then get shy and turn away.  It is SO adorable.
I think we're going through a Katelyn growth spurt right now.  She's been taking REALLY long naps during the day (I'm talking 3-4 hours in the morning) and even had a 12-hr stretch she did one night (she's usually ~10).  I'm not complaining of course!  Sleep = growing = brain development!  She's only awake a max of 2 hours at a time before she starts getting fussy.  And doh, I forgot to take a picture again this week of Katelyn and her new nanny Cheyenne.  I am REALLY liking her so far - she's great at helping out with things around the house during Katelyn's naps!  I always hear Katelyn smiling and giggling downstairs, and Cheyenne is great at soothing her when starts getting fussy when she's ready for naps.  I even got to pick up Tyler from daycare while Cheyenne watched Katelyn at home!
Here's Katelyn's 13 week bear picture!
And one video this week - Tyler loves his baby sister!
