Happy Chinese New Year! (Week 81)

Happy Chinese New Year everyone! Sorry this post was slightly delayed - we were recovering from a weekend full of festivities!

Last week Will and I had dinner alone for the 5th time since Tyler has been born. Not bad considering he's 18 months already! My favorite restaurant Five Crowns in Corona Del Mar was doing Restaurant Week and we just couldn't pass up the opportunity! Tyler himself has been there a few times but its always a 50/50 chance if he'll cooperate and eat quietly or decide he wants to run around. Regardless, we never get to really savour Five Crown's delicious prime rib. Luckily, our wonderful friend Julie (who's son Vincent is friends with Tyler from school!) was happy to watch Tyler for us for a few hours. Yay! Here's Will and myself at Five Crowns. Yummy - the dinner was delicious!
We went to pick up Tyler afterwards and him and Vincent had had a great time playing together. They are SO cute together - they have their own little toddler talk and get so excited to play together! Here's Vincent giving Tyler a hug as we were leaving. So cute!
The weekend started early this week! Thursday was a fun night with friends. On Friday, Kareen came in from SF for work! That night we all headed out to Shik Do Rak (spelling?) - this Korean BBQ restaurant near our place. Sooo yummy. Tyler was pretty good, except he made a huge mess (as usual). He was pointing at different side dishes to try - so we let him try the spicy pickled radish. He did NOT like that!
Saturday we headed over to the in-laws for a pre-Chinese New Year lunch. My in-laws really are great with Tyler! Here's Tyler with Will's dad. It's funny, sometimes I totally see Tyler looking more like Will's dad than Will himself!Saturday night I got to introduce Kareen to some of my girlfriends. Darn, I didn't manage to get a group picture though! We had a good time just hanging out at my friend's amazingly-decorated place. I want to live there - it's so nice! Here's Mariam, me, and Trina.Sunday morning we had a big family get together to celebrate Chinese New Year! I'm always amazed that we can fit this many people at one table. In attendance were my parents, my grandmother, Will's parents, Kareen, and my aunt and her twin sons who were visiting from Taiwan. It was a lot of people, and fun having everyone hang out. Tyler was even on his best behavior!
On this trip, Tyler totally warmed up to Kareen! There was some hesitancy at first, but when he saw her come downstairs with her hair in a towel (like mommy does) he definitely started getting confused. After that, he was super friendly with Kareen! Yay! Here's Kareen and Tyler.Sunday night my girlfriend Trina also came by to pick up some stuff. Tyler must have still been in his great mood from during the day because he was super friendly with Trina too! Will and I were like, wow - he's usually really shy around strangers!
And on Monday - Will and I went snowboarding! I know, right? It's been forever! I haven't been snowboarding since early 2006 (totally missed the 06-07 season because I was pregnant, and the 07-08 season because Tyler was so tiny). I was worried that I had forgotten how! It was perfect since we both had taken the day off, and it actually snowed the night before and earlier that morning! Usually I'm quite snobby about Southern California snow resorts, but I was definitely impressed. We had a great time!
One difference I noticed about Bear Mountain vs. a Tahoe resort was that Bear Mountain had tricks (rails, jumps, ramps, etc) on all their runs, whereas usually at a Tahoe resort you have to go specifically to the terrain park. This was great for Will, and he got to do lots of jumps, rails and tricks while I watched and ooh'ed and aah'ed. I even got myself to go up a little hill, but I wasn't going fast enough to get any air. Next time! Here's a shot I got of Will going off a little jump. I love the picture because everything is so dark and dreary except the bottom of his board. Go Will! :)
And lastly, a picture just for fun. We had gotten this little stuffed horse from Wells Fargo and Tyler loves it so much! He'll kiss it and hug it everytime he's in the car. He'll even fall asleep holding it. :)
That's it for now! Have a good week everyone!
