Katelyn is so sick, Tyler gets his eyes checked, and Leah's 1st bday party! (Week 190/52)

Ahh!  I'm almost a week late with this post!  But I have good reason.  This last week has been the WORST WEEK EVER!  It started out with Katelyn having a fever Monday night that was so bad that she had really bad chills in my arms.  Tuesday night was a fever up to 104 and a Wednesday morning doctor visit diagnosed Katelyn with a mild ear infection.  But it got worse.  Poor Katelyn's fever didn't go away, and we were using fever reducer on her almost around the clock.  It was very sad.  Even when she's not feeling well, Katelyn still managed to rock her little pigtail!  I love her!

Thursday Katelyn seemed to be better so she spent the day at school (Will and I had meetings we couldn't miss at work, and I'm still kicking myself for letting her go to school that day).  The teachers actually said she had a good day though, and we were really relieved.  Except Friday morning came along, and Katelyn's fever was back!  Sniff sniff.  What was going on with my poor Katelyn?

Friday afternoon Will got a haircut and we were able to squeeze one in for Katelyn as well.  Gone is her mullet and scraggly hair! :)  heeheehee.  And she did GREAT!  There was no screaming and crying like Tyler did for his first.  Katelyn smiled through the whole thing!

She is such a little girl - she even likes getting her hair done. :)

Video of Katelyn at her first haircut!  She had no problem!

Saturday was quite a hectic day.  A free screening a few weeks ago at Tyler's school had brought up some concerns about the strength of his left eye, so we scheduled him for an eye checkup with this great child-friendly optometrist Dr. Corish.  He was GREAT with Tyler, you could tell is really wonderful with kids.

There was a funny moment where he had Tyler press his nose and then he pushed a pedal to make the chair go up.  The look on Tyler's face was priceless as he was thinking that pressing his nose made the chair rise.  Good news though, nothing to worry about for now - Tyler's left eye is a little weaker but nothing that the doctor felt was a cause for concern for someone Tyler's age.  And Tyler did a good job listening too!

After the optometrist appointment we headed to Katelyn's pediatrician's office for drop in hours to get her checked out again. Poor K.  Her doctor prescribed her some antibiotics to help treat her mild ear infection.  We dosed her with fever reducer after her nap, and then headed up to Monterey Park to attend my niece Leah's first birthday party!  Whew, what a start to day!  Here's Tyler excited to see his cousin Leah and his aunt and uncle!

Katelyn actually started out at the party pretty well.  She let everyone hold her, was really friendly and smiley.

Tyler got to sneak in some yummy cookies.

Here's me and the birthday girl Leah!  I wish they lived down here but I have since given up on it happening.

But then all of a sudden, K's fever hit again and she took a bad turn.  She was so lethargic and tired and exhausted.  It hurt to watch.  Here's Michelle holding my poor baby K.  I sent Will out to get some ibuprofen since I had only brought acetaminophen and just given it to her.

After the dose of ibuprofen (they're different medicines so they can be layered on each other), K started feeling better but was still not as smiley as she usually is.  My poor baby K!  Here she is with Will and Will's mom.

But she does love balloons!

Tyler was pretty good all day - thank goodness Andy's parents have a large yard for him to run around in.  And he likes blowing bubbles too!

Group picture with Kareen/Andy/Leah and Will's parents.

Hmm.  Someone isn't so great with taking photos - Tyler got cut out of this one!

Smiley K!  This was Saturday and I was really hoping Katelyn would be feeling better since Will was leaving the next morning for an almost week-long business trip.  Just the thought was making me nauseous...

K is such a girly girl - she likes anything pink!

I think it seemed like Katelyn was starting to feel better...

Grandmothers and granddaughters!

Haha, I thought this picture was funny of Kareen and Tyler.  Tyler is being silly and Kareen is not impressed, haha.  (I know, she's just kidding!).  Tyler has this weird thing where he can only wink his right eye and not his left.  I have no idea why...

At one point Tyler was watching TV with Uncle Andy!  Why does he look so concerned?  They were watching Terminator 2!  For anyone who knows my sensitive little Tyler, this does not seem like a good idea!  But Tyler was totally into it because of the robots!

Me and Kareen with our little girls!

Whew, what a Saturday.  We had a nice little calm evening together.  Here's a photo of bedtime reading time!

Video of Katelyn during bedtime story.  K is all about reading stories and turning pages.  I like how halfway through she loses interest in Will reading the story, walks off, grabs another book and asks him to read it instead!

Ooh this was a cute photo of Katelyn - the only time she's ever had this cute little pink beanie on.  My nanny put it on her after she fell asleep on her walk.  As soon as she woke up though, she tore that beanie off angrily!  But isn't she cute in it?

Sunday morning.  Katelyn starts throwing up and diarrhea.  WONDERFUL timing Katie-bug!  Will leaves at 10am for New York for the week.  I am already feeling overwhelmed just of the thought of the upcoming week.  Thank GOODNESS my parents headed over after lunch to help out (they must have sensed the worry in my voice).  The rest of Sunday included more vomiting and diarrhea.  Sigh.  My parents left in the early evening and I was on my own again.  I somehow made it through though!  Monday more fever.  We took another trip to the pediatrician's and they weren't able to offer us much insight (my doctor wasn't there on Monday so we saw the doctor on call).  Will's parents were helpful and picked up Tyler from school for me.  We started Katelyn on her antibiotic (tried to anyway) and she just kept vomiting.  More fever and vomiting.  Tuesday I stayed home with Katelyn (Will's parents took Tyler to school).  Tuesday night I puked.  Ugh.  Wednesday my nanny and I took Katelyn back to the doctor office.  By this time her fever had been going on over a week and my doctor decided to get some further tests done.  WAAAHH!  Katelyn had a quick catheter to get a urine sample, and then we headed next door to the Irvine Hoag hospital to get her blood drawn.  AHHH!  Here's Katelyn waiting to get her blood drawn.  Poor Katelyn!

How cute is she?  She has no idea what's about to happen as they prepped her with her little tourniquet on her arm.  Good thing my nanny was there so I didn't have to hold her down!

The phlebotomist was great with Katelyn - she put little stickers down for Katelyn to scratch at and did a wonderful job just distracting her in general!  It was definitely probably more traumatic for me than Katelyn.  (Side note:  Everyone seemed to be catching this stomach bug that was going around - Kareen/Andy, my parents, Will and myself!)

What a week it's been so far.  Wednesday and just counting down until Will returns Thursday night!  I deserve a spa day! :)

Here's a picture of Tyler on his video monitor - he sleeps in such funny positions!

And lastly a KMT photo from before Will left for New York!
