Happy St. Patrick's Day and Kumon!! (Week 193/55)

Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day!  To celebrate, we dressed the kids up in green for the day.  Tyler actually had a whole week of green activities at school, and he came back covered in green paint everyday too.  I love this picture of Tyler and Katelyn below - they're actually playing together now!  Katelyn always wants to play with what Tyler is playing with (poor Tyler) but now she seems to better understand when I say "choose another toy, Katelyn".  I think that's the phrase they use with the kids when she's at school.

Video of Katelyn walking around.  Katelyn is officially a walker now.  She rarely crawls now, and this is giving me near-strokes every day.  She is really quite wobbly in the mornings (when she wakes up) and at nights (when she's tired) and I'm always holding my breath when she stumbles.  The other night we were reading stories in Tyler's room, and she face planted into one of the wooden legs of Tyler's drawing easel.  I swear, it was like she aimed for it or something!  She ended up with a line going down the side of her face, over her eyebrow and down her cheek.  How sad!  But usually she's actually walks quite well - she LOVES walking!  Even if it's a few feet away she'll stand up and walk over (she can stand up without using anything to help her up too).  Go Katelyn!

I picked up Tyler from school the other day and he was hard at work playing some Nemo game on a laptop.  That's his buddy Zane next to him - they play everyday together. :)

Tyler started Kumon this week!  His first day he was really shy and I sat with him while he did his packets with Miss Kimberly (below).  Tyler seems to work best when he's taking directions from a cute girl. Seriously!  He's doing the Junior Kumon program right now, which is super easy - counting items and recognizing words paired up with pictures.  I like that he's also practicing writing his numbers also.  It's pretty basic and I think it's good for him to get used to doing these things now.  (But man, its $$!)

Tyler's second day at Kumon I had to wait outside with all the other parents.  He didn't even mind (probably helped with Miss Kimberly was there again).  Every once in a while he'd look back at me and give me a smile.  Can you see him sitting there in the middle?

Friday night we went out for pizza with some friends.  Here's Katelyn and my friend Jen.

It's always nice hanging out with our friends (who happen to have kids who are in Tyler's class at school).

I've started giving Katelyn the little organic pouches of fruit and veggies again.  There was a sale at Babies R Us so I totally stocked up.  They're great since she loves them because she can eat them all herself - definitely a great snack for her, and I don't have to bring little containers of veggies/fruit when I know we're going somewhere that won't have it on the menu (like a pizza parlor).

And YogurtLand afterward (next door to the pizza place in Northwood).  Yum Katelyn!

Saturday Tyler had his half-pint hoops class again.  Love that it's such a small number of kids in this class. This week they practiced dribbling with both hands as well as passing.

Turns out Tyler's the youngest kid there still.  He did great though, was a great listener and very enthusiastic.  Some of the other kids are a little out of control.  One of the moms was there this time too so I had someone to chat with also.

Video of Tyler dribbling the basketball - he's so much better than he was last year. :)

Saturday afternoon we headed to West Covina for our friend Jesse's 36th birthday party.  They had a CrepeMaker stand there - unlimited crepes all night!  I ate very many - they were SO delicious!  Here's me and Shirley with Katelyn.

Tyler made a new BFF that night - this nice girl named Linda.  Tyler had met her a couple months ago (same place, different party) and had already taken a liking to her because she would play with him and the other kids.  This time around it almost seemed like he was attached to her!  She was great with Tyler.

Here he is with Linda and her bf Randy.  Aren't they a cute little family? Hah!

It was actually one of the few times that we kept the kids out late.  They knocked out pretty quickly on the ride home.  Tyler fell asleep before we were even on the freeway, but Katelyn took a while longer.  She definitely likes forward facing, but since she can see more she has a harder time falling asleep.  I know the American Academy of Pediatrics just put out a bulletin about how they recommend kids rear-face until at least age 2, but I can't deal with all the screaming Katelyn does!  Sigh.  I don't think we can turn her around again now that she's had a taste of forward facing.  Plus I'm SO happy not to be sitting in the back anymore!

Monday.  Will and I (gasp!) played hooky from work and hit Mountain High.  We had been talking about doing it on a day when there was great snow, and it just so happened that it snowed a ton on Sunday!  I can't even remember the last time Will and I had some time to ourselves minus the kids.  Worked out perfectly.  Tyler was at school and Katelyn was at home with Cheyenne NOT needing to be nursed anymore.  We're mixing her whole milk and breast-milk in her sippy cups and she's finally not spitting it out anymore.  Whoo-hoo!

I'm still amazed how close Mountain High is - only a little over an hour from Irvine.  I used to be really snobby about Southern California snow resorts (well of course, they suck compared to Tahoe and Mammoth!) but with our schedule and availability, I've got no complaints!  It was still snowing pretty hard up there and then cleared up later on.  The snow was PERFECT!  This picture is at the top of the mountain - it was so cold!

Video of Will snowboarding!  I need to get a video of me also!

The drive home - blue skies and clear roads.  What a perfect day trip.  We were back by 4pm - no traffic!  LOVE it.

Tyler is now officially enrolled in his Taekwondo class.  Before we were just doing a trial period.  He is doing SO great. So attentive, focused, listening.  Ok, sometimes he seems to be daydreaming, but he's 3 so no big deal.  We eat dinner earlier (5pm) and then head over there afterward.  Katelyn likes watching the classes too!

Video of Tyler at Taekwondo.  I like how Katelyn kind of wanders into the frame and then walks out.  haha!

Video of Tyler the new Taekwondo member.  Yes Ma'am!

Some miscellaneous photos.

Katelyn hanging out in her carseat.

What a walker!  She walked by, grabbed the walkie-talkies we had out from our snowboarding trip, and was swinging them in each hand.  Then she whacked herself in the face with one.  Oops.

KMT!  My hair is too dark - time to lighten...

Katelyn enjoying some carrot/apples.  She is so big now.  She understands simple commands, and sometimes I hear her singing when music comes on.  It's so cute!

Another video of Katelyn walking:

A visit to Kohls!

What else, let's see. Katelyn's top molars are coming in - I can actually feel them on each side. She doesn't like me poking around in there though, and punished me with a REALLY hard bite. Ouch. She is getting better (thanks to Cheyenne) at going down for her naps without any patting. It's wonderful! And (knock on wood) she's been doing great with bedtimes too. Will reads her a story and then puts her down. She likes to feel the weight of his hand on her as she settles down. LOVE that I'm not nursing her down anymore. If only she would sleep in though...

Tyler has been such a big boy too. I'm impressed that he is able to concentrate and focus on his Kumon packets, as well as follow directions and do his Taekwondo kicking moves! To get a yellow belt, he has to learn this set of moves, which I think the only way I can help is if I learn it myself. High punch! Target! Punch! I look really ridiculous.

Have a good week!
