Firetruck Birthday Party, Five Crowns and Claim Jumper!! (Week 149/11)

Hello!  Another week - wow time is flying by.  Katelyn is 11 weeks, and I'm only 1 week out from returning to work!  I do have a lot of vacation saved up and I could take another month off - but I've decided to go back part time (just a couple days a week) and get back into the swing of things.  Mentally, I think I'm still in denial, I can't really imagine not spending every day, all day, with Katelyn!  It'll be good though - going back early means I can work part time for a couple months - a good way of easing back into things.

This week was SPECIAL because we got to go to Five Crowns - my FAVE prime rib joint down in Corona Del Mar.  Special occasion?  Nah.  We seized the opportunity since Tyler's school had "Parent's Night Out" where they'll watch your kids for a small fee until 9pm and feed them dinner.  Yay!  So we decided to head out with Mariam/Frank and Katelyn.  I was a little nervous about how Katelyn would do at dinner (her first time at a fancy dinner place) but she was great actually - quite well behaved.  I nursed her and she fell asleep, and even though she woke up when I put her back in her carseat, she just kind of sat there quietly looking around!  By the time dessert rolled by, I had her in my ring sling and she knocked out quick.  Here's a couple links of Tyler's first and (at 9 weeks) second time to 5 Crowns (at 6 months).  (Side note: my prime rib was SO perfectly cooked that night...)
My iPhone has been giving me issues - once it heats up (from talking on it, or playing games), it thinks I've plugged in my headphones.  Argh!  Super annoying, because I'm in the middle of talking and all of a sudden I can't hear you and you can't hear me.  Lame.  Will and I stopped by the Apple store on Friday in hopes for some help (our second time trying to get the problem corrected) but got none because my phone was out of warranty.  Super lame!  Oh well, it was nice strolling around the Spectrum though. :)  Here's Will and Katelyn.
After we picked up Tyler from school on Friday, we headed out to an early dinner with friends at Claim Jumper.  I think this was the first time we did this - where we actually went to a sit down restaurant and put the kids on one side and trusted them to behave themselves.  It was SO cute, Tyler was having a blast with his friends!  I remember sitting there and thinking that this is what having kids is about - so what it's a Friday night and there's no partying planned - we had just as much fun!
Even Katelyn was really well behaved.  When the food came, she just chilled in her bassinet and looked that the hanging mirror.  How awesome is she!?
While the adults were chatting/eating, the kids started playing around.  BOY, were we loud in there.  Good thing Claim Jumpers isn't a fancy quiet restaurant.  It was really funny - when all the kids went to use the potty, it got super quiet!  Oh well, what do you expect from a bunch of 3 year olds?  This was a funny picture - Tyler showing his friends his iPhone - I think he was playing the Cars movie on it (obsessed he is with it I tell you!)
Here are the kids outside.  We're actually missing one family from our group.  It's cute - each family has 2 kids - a boy and a girl!  Of course Katelyn is the youngest, but I think it'll be so fun watching them grow up together.  We're actually signed up for half-pint basketball (through the city of Irvine) with 2 of them this weekend!  Yay, I hope it'll be fun!
On Saturday we headed to another birthday party - for one of Tyler's school friends Elijah.  Here's Tyler giving Elijah his birthday present (good thing Tyler didn't know it was Cars stuff or he might not have given it away to willingly!)
It was a hot day!  I'm not a fan of being outside on hot days (thank goodness there was nice cool shade).
The theme was firetrucks!
Tyler loves to blow bubbles!  (These were like super sealed and hard to open! )
Katelyn was really good again!  She totally just chilled in her bassinet and when she started getting a bit fussy/tired, we walked her around the park and she fell asleep.  I am LOVING my bassinet!
The excitement grows: the firetruck arrives!  YAY!   We had missed a birthday party a couple weeks ago (same time as another birthday party) that had had a firetruck also - so I was glad that we got to see one this time.
They lined up all the kids in front of the firetruck to take a picture.  Tyler was quite enthralled though, and just kept looking at the firetruck...turn around Tyler!
Finally looking!  Apparently there are firetrucks that are just for birthday parties (for some reason I thought it was a real one, but that wouldn't make much sense now that I think about it..)
Will rode with the kids on the first ride - the kids were SO excited!  They have it converted on top so that there are benches with seatbelts.
Apparently, the driver might have gotten kind of lost as they were circling, and the kids' excitement waned.  One kid even whispered: "...this is a very long ride...".  Will was a little disappointed that the guy dressed as a fireman (a REALLY fat guy!) was just standing in the back not doing anything so he took it upon himself to get the kids excited again.  They sang songs, played games and waved at cars behind them!
And a picture on the firetruck after the ride.  Whew, we were close to Tyler not wanting to be in the picture again (like this).
Afterward, the kids ran around and played.  Lunch was hot dogs from Jerry's Dogs.  Tyler was interested in the strawberries in the fruit salad mostly.  Ooh, and happy that he got to drink juice! (He hardly ever gets juice...)
There was even a firetruck pinata.  This time Tyler actually hit the firetruck a couple times (no damage).  Boo that he was so quick that Will didn't even get a chance to check his photos!  Afterward, Tyler got bored of waiting and ran off to play in the playground.  He's not really into candy anyway, so he wasn't bummed about not getting a bag of loot.  (His last bag of pinata candy I ended up eating!)
Uh oh, I think Tyler got upset that Arden bumped into him accidentally.  He pouted for a little while before running off happily to play.   We've been working with Tyler to not start bawling every time he gets hurt - I think it's just what he's used to doing...we tell him to use his words so we can help him feel better.  It's working!  He'll still cry but usually he'll stop pretty quick.
Yay, a color-coordinated (unplanned) visit from Mariam and Trina!
Ooh, had to put this picture in so I'd remember...Katelyn has totally discovered her thumb.  She sucks on it whenever she starts to get fussy - it is SO cute.  Of course I'm really worried about the ramifications down the line (speaking with a lisp?, not giving it up?), but for now its just so darn cute.  And it beats sticking in her pacifier in the middle of the night.  Although, I think she gets a better suck on her pacifier than her thumb.  Only bad part - the saliva all over her face as she drools!
Princess Katelyn.  She is totally not going to fit any of her 3 month clothes soon - this one was barely fit I think!  Love the tutu - thought a little bit about making her one (I've seen instructions on line...) but then my laziness took over.  How cute is she!
Here's a picture with Will.
She loves those ceiling fans - they don't even have to be moving!  She'll stare happily and sometimes coo and smile.
Here's Katelyn checking out all her hanging toys - she can kind of kick/hit them with her arms/feet.  Next step? - grabbing them on purpose!
Ooh, this was REALLY exciting.  Tyler is a big fan of Taiwan Bok Choy.  He ate a whole bowl yesterday!  I actually used it as bribery to get him to finish his other stuff.  Whoohoo, more vegetables that Tyler is willing to eat!
And lastly, Katelyn's 11 week bear picture.
Katelyn has been really great - sleeping wonderfully at night.  I still expect her to start waking up every 3 hours or so - just because I think we're too lucky and it must be a fluke.  She loves it when you put her down and just talk to her - she'll smile so big and talk back to you!  We're in the middle of a nanny search and I have 2 wonderfully qualified girls that I'm a big fan of.  Sigh.  I better make a decision quick because I start work next week!

Wow, time is going by fast...I can't believe you're ready for work again in a week.

So far, so good...it looks like Katelyn is going to be a mellow one. See?? There IS a balance to everything. :)
