To start off, this past week has been GREAT! Why? Tyler decided himself that he was going to start using the potty at school. This is a BIG deal because he had been SO adamant against it previously. He's great the rest of the time - wears the same pull-ups all day on the weekends and no problems #1 or #2'ing at all. But at school, he just wasn't interested. I finally told him last weekend that it was OK if he didn't want to use the potty at school - no big deal - not like I was changing any of those diapers! And then... voila! Come Tuesday...he used the potty ALL DAY! and the same on Wednesday... and Thursday... and Friday! My goodness - I must have been stressing poor Tyler out - and once the pressure was off, he decided he wanted to do it all on his own! Woo-hoo! Here's a photo of Tyler's diaper chart on Friday - you can see its mostly all W's for the kids - which means Wet diaper that was changed. However, Tyler's row (Chang) has got UP (used potty) all the way across! There are only 2 other boys in the class that are consistent potty trainers, and they are both March babies (Tyler's ahead of the curve! He's a July baby!). Anyway, the Tuesday chart actually had 6 UPs across for Tyler - he really used the potty a lot! I'm thinking it was a combination of less pressure and learning to stand up to pee with using his Peter Potty urinal. Regardless - GO TYLER!
Not much has been going on in our household this week. I just waddle around basically, waiting for this baby to arrive. Kareen had her little girl Leah on Wednesday (Congrats Kareen!! Yay!) and with my parents both in the Bay Area I "attempted" to keep Katelyn warm and cozy in my tummy until they got back last night. Mission accomplished I guess? Now it's time! C'mon!
Saturday was crazy rain so we stayed inside. Good thing we have mass amount of toys to keep Tyler busy all day. Here's Tyler the train engineer. He was playing with his Thomas trains and tracks and all of a sudden announced that he needed his train hat and whistle.
Tyler has become quite imaginative lately. He'll dig up random toys and things and play pretend. For example, he had my iPhone headset yesterday and was pretending he was a doctor with a stethoscope. Really! He would come up to Will and myself and listen to our hearts, and my tummy, even my foot! Here he is with some old blocks. We tried (unsuccessfully?) to work on some letter recognition as well. I think we made it up to .. D? Hah!
Sunday it cleared up. Yay! I was determined that we get out of the house so Tyler could burn off his energy and I could get some walking in. It just happened to be the Irvine Park Railroad's Anniversary weekend and they were offering train rides for half off ($2 instead of $4). We headed there bright and early to avoid the lines. Here's Will and Tyler in line for the ride (with his free balloon!).
I hesitated to put this picture in because I am SO freaking huge, but dude, if I don't, I'll probably never see this picture again! The belly is getting OUT of control! A passing clown (really, a real clown) made a comment that I must have swallowed the balloon I was holding. Ha. Ha.
Tyler was really excited about the train ride! We had gone on this once in Dec'07 to meet Santa when Tyler was only 6 months old. Totally different experience since it was at night time and FREEZING! Here's a photo from that trip. This time though, the weather was great and there was lots to see! Tyler had a great time pointing out the tons of dogs, ducks, and even peacocks! Biggest relief? No freak-out during the short tunnel ride at the end. Whoo!
Good thing we got there early because the line was PACKED when we pulled back into the station (we were the first ride out). We headed over to the pony rides. Super cute, only $4, mini ponies, and a parent actually leads the pony around the track 3 times. Here's Tyler - pointing which direction he wants to go.
Tyler loves to ride horses - and these were fun because they were so little. Tyler thought it was hilarious when the pony stopped halfway around the first trip and pooped. Haha! Here he is petting the pony.
The before-mentioned clown had set up a booth for free balloon animals - yay! ... But Tyler was much more interested in climbing the nearby low hanging branches of a tree. Tree-hugger!
I couldn't resist getting a cotton candy - it's been so long! Will and I each took a couple bites and felt sick and grossed out. Tyler was totally interested... in holding it! Lucky for us our kid is totally not into sweets or chocolate. But don't think about taking away his fruit gummies!
And last stop was the bounce house. There were actually 2 set up, one for 5 and under, and one for 6 and over. Tyler didn't want to go into the 5 and under one - probably because there were quite a few kids in it. The 6+ one though? Empty! So Will got the OK from the teenage attendant and in Tyler went into the big kid bounce house and got to jump all by himself! He loved it! One note: don't let your kids jump too close to the entrance. On one crazy bounce, Tyler jumped right through the entrance and landed on the (thank goodness) inflated entrance step. He looked pretty stunned for a second and then thought it was hilarious. Yikes!
Afterward, we had hot dogs (which Tyler actually ate again! Amazing!) and then Will and Tyler played in the muddy grass for a bit - anything to burn off energy! Tyler did fall down once though, and got a bunch of mud all over himself. He didn't get upset though, but was pretty determined to get all the mud off. Haha! I love it! I have a clean freak kid! :) Perfect full morning and Tyler knocked out quickly in the car. :)
Here's Tyler playing on my body pillow - this first one he's pretending that he's swimming in the water/on a surfboard. :)
This one he's pretending he's sleeping. Seriously, he is such a silly kid - I love it!
And lastly, spicy dinner last night - anything to help jump start labor! Will was extra happy since he got to have crazy spicy food AND tofu - a very rare combination.
