Oh thank goodness Will is back from his business trip. I must say, this past week was one of the most exhausting ones I've had in a LONG time. I don't know how other people do it - it's very possible that I'm just a wuss. Will headed out bright and early to New Jersey last Monday morning. Not such a big deal except that I was pretty tired from our baby shower the day before and was looking forward to some recovery time. The problem, however, was that it was MLK Day and Tyler's school was closed. Ack! 35 weeks pregnant + a 2 year old home from school! To make matters worse, it started POURING rain. Uh-oh. The outlook of the week was not looking too great.
I knew Tyler would go stir-crazy in the house so luckily we headed over to our friend the Garners for a morning playdate. I made the really stupid decision to stop for Starbucks on the way - only to find that the rain had increased ten-fold while I was inside. Result: a very pregnant me carrying Tyler, with an umbrella, and a hot (half decaf!) coffee slowly to the car in the torrential downpour. The coffee was so not worth it! Luckily we made it with no problems to the Garners and Tyler had a great time playing with Kaden. His favorite toy there was a remote controlled helicopter that flies! I would totally shy away from a toy that age for Tyler but he LOVED it and now I think we'll have to get one. haha! Ooh, he also got to have these ridiculously huge cheese puffs that they had - each one was larger than my index finger! Here's a photo of Kaden sharing with Tyler. :)
I was pretty psyched to make it through day #1 - only 3 full days until Will came back! I did realize, however, how lucky I am to have Will around, as I'm used to sitting around in the evenings and rubbing my belly. Tuesday the rain got worse. Much worse. So bad that there was even a tornado warning in Orange County. I'm not sure if it was my pregnancy hormones or what, but it TOTALLY freaked me out. The thought of Tyler at school, away from me, and Will in New Jersey, in case anything happened, really was making me paranoid. It was seriously El Nino-like wind/weather. Thank goodness the rain totally seemed to clear up by the time I picked up Tyler from school. His school was having a fundraiser that night at a local restaurant - good thing the weather cleared up or I'm sure the turnout would not have been good. But it was crazy! Full of other families. We hung out with the Kaden's, Cambria's and Maddie's family. Another instance where I truly appreciated Will - only having one parent to watch Tyler! It's tough when I have to use the restroom every 5 minutes and have to leave Tyler with the other families real quick and hope he behaves. At one point Tyler was jumping around and spilled his little cup of strawberries and green beans. Even though all the strawberries were saved, the lost green beans caused him to have a mini-meltdown. Really? Green beans? (Will thinks he secretly loves them but pretends not to want to eat them) Sigh. Here's Tyler with his friends Kaden and Elijah playing around outside after dinner (yay it had stopped raining!).
Wednesday was a blur. Thursday was TOUGH. By Thursday night I had, eh, much less patience than I had on Monday. I was getting worried about Will getting home since the weather had gotten really bad again - BOY was I relieved when he got home by midnight. Whew! No more business trips please! Friday was a busy day as we played catchup with a ton of errands that had been piling up. We headed to the Garners after picking up Tyler from school for Movie Night! They have this ridiculously huge projection screen that extends the entire wall of their living room, and Tyler was totally engrossed watching "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". It was a really awesome movie experience (even though we didn't watch the whole thing) - felt like we were in a real theater! Here are Tyler and his friends Dylan and Kaden being silly on the couch.
And here's another shot of them engrossed in watching the large TV mounted on the wall (not even the projector!).
This weekend was more errands - I'm in super nesting mode and am starting to assemble things and get the house (even more) ready for the new baby's arrival. I'm still 5 weeks out from my due date - but hey, Tyler came 2 weeks early, and who knows what's going to happen with this one! I'm keeping my fingers she'll stay nice and cozy right until my due date though! One of the things we did was assemble our Stokke Crib! No, I didn't actually buy it (an awesome friend gave it to us after her son outgrew it). It really is a beautiful crib. Since we already have a crib in the nursery, and a pack and play in our room, we decided to put it in our living room so that Katelyn will have somewhere to sleep downstairs. I ordered a bumper for it (on the way!) and am so excited about how cute it is. They sell a canopy/drape for it but it was so expensive and I couldn't justify it when it's probably just like mosquito-netting-like. Tyler, of course, had to get in on the fun too. It's quite sturdy!
We also assembled my new stroller - the 2010 UppaBaby Vista. AHHH! The stroller actually came last Monday and stayed in its box the whole week while Will was gone. This was the one baby splurge that we agreed upon since we didn't really need to buy anything else for the new baby. I LOVE IT and can not wait to use it (once the weather gets better of course). Funny thing - right after we assembled the bassinet and put it on the couch, our cat Mojo immediately jumped into it and tried to get cozy. Oh no you don't!
Sunday my parents came over for lunch (bringing yummy dim sum). I love that Tyler is so super friendly now - so glad he's out of the shy stage. He was such a ham with my parents - giving them hugs and playing games with them. Here he is playing puzzles with my mom. He was adamant that she play puzzles with him!
My parents also brought a ladder for us to use real quick to change out the lightbulbs in the front entrance's lamp. I don't remember if I mentioned it, but last weekend Will's parents came and we got a new lamp and lightbulb for the dining room area (our old one was like a chandelier and would always bump our heads since we don't use the area for dining). Anyway, that one lightbulb that Will's dad got was the bright BLUE/White kind and all of a sudden I had to have ALL the lightbulbs in the house that color. No joke. We changed a lot of them last weekend and finally finished the rest of them off this week/weekend. EVERY light got changed - even the kitchen halogens and accompanying plastic sheets that covered the lights. I was THAT determined. Poor Will. Anyway, those lightbulbs in the front entrance were the very last to get changed - whoohoo! Here's Tyler with my parents before they left.
More prepping for the baby - putting together one of our swings! We totally didn't need this second swing since we have the full sized Papasan swing from Tyler's baby days. However, this one was 50% off a couple months ago at Babies R Us and I couldn't resist. Now we'll have a swing upstairs and this little one downstairs! But now I have to figure out where my Kate Spade bouncer will go. hmm... I really must stop.
And lastly, here's Tyler washing strawberries. It amazes me all the time how helpful and a good listener he is getting. Not totally sure how clean the strawberries got, but I love that he's trying!
Here's a short video of him washing the strawberries. He sure loves strawberries!
Here's a cute photo I got from my camera. We were at Lowe's and Tyler was excited to play with a mini tape measurer (which we bought for him). He always wants to play with Will's and I always am worried he'll hurt himself because those things are pretty sharp! Anyway, here he is measuring a garage door. haha.
New things this week. Tyler has #2'd in the potty 6x in a row now. Yipppee! We've started giving a single gummy for peeing in the potty too now, so that's starting to catch on as well. Today was not a fun day though, Tyler had a fever last night and we both stayed home to tag team and take care of him. There's nothing worse than seeing your kid sick. :( Thank goodness it wasn't too bad of a fever, never really went much over 100 degrees, but we could see how listless and grumpy he was (plus puking all over our bed was NOT a great way to start the day!). It's my last week at work and I am SO stoked and excited. Even though I have a ridiculous amount of stuff to finish off - I've got my eye on the prize - chilling and relaxing! I've set up all of Katelyn's bath stuff in the spare bathroom, as well as her whole kitchen counter for bottles and sterilizing. I think the only thing left is to pack my hospital bag! I'm so on top of things!
Hope everyone has a great week!
