Back to School Night, Irvine Global Village & LA County Fair! (Week 117)

Another week has gone by, and another week where I'm sick... again! This time I'm not sure if it's food poisoning or stomach flu - but regardless it's rendered me bed-ridden with horrible headaches and throwing up. JOY huh! Sigh.

Last Friday Tyler's school had Back to School Night - where all the families come to the school for dinner and activities in each of the classrooms. It was a lot of fun - especially seeing all of Tyler's friends and chatting with their families. Here's Tyler and Dylan giving Vincent a big hug. We're going to miss him!

Here is a video of the boys playing inside. Tyler seemed to think his stack of blocks were candles and was singing "Happy Birthday" to himself. Dylan called Will "ba-ba" in the beginning to look at his blocks (it's so cute that all the kids seem to do this!) and then Kaden was being destructive and knocking over Dylan's and Tyler's blocks. Dylan had the funniest shocked expression as he watched Kaden knock his blocks down!

It was a lot of fun watching Tyler and his friends play in the yard - they're so fearless - climbing up and down things without hesitation!
This is one of my favorite photos from the night - Tyler coming off the slide. He's always go-go-go - before he's even off the slide he's already starting to run back on it. :)
We did a lot of different activities in his classroom that night - from putting Styrofoam stickers on a pumpkin to reading books and cutting vegetables. Tyler was really intent on cooking noodles for us in the pretend kitchen area, and warned us that it was 'very hot!' Tyler has got his cheesy smile in this picture below - too big Tyler!!
Some of the parents of Tyler's friends had little kids that were in the infant room, and we hung out there afterward. I can't believe Tyler started out in the Infant room and is now in Pre-1 (with a year in the Toddler room in between!). I made sure we were on the wait list for the Infant room once baby #2 comes next year. Here's Tyler with Dylan and Kaden (who both have little sisters in the infant room - let's keep our fingers crossed that Tyler will have one soon too! AAHHH!)
I asked Tyler if he remembered being in the Infant room and he actually said Yes. Hmm, not sure if he really remembers though - but he still remembers the teachers!
Saturday we headed out to the Irvine Global Village Fair - I think it's Irvine's BIG yearly event. We went last year, and I think it was even bigger this year. There were 3 main sections - one was for kids, one was for exhibits and one was for food. We didn't even make it to all of them. We met up with other families from Tyler's school ( LOVE that we're developing a close-knit group!) and had a great time.
There was a booth set up with free balloon animals. I was SO impressed with what the guy could make! Here's Tyler waiting patiently for his balloon. When the guy asked him what he liked, Tyler said "Nemo!". Really? I would have thought he'd say something like Tigger or elephant or something.
Tyler and Dylan's finished products - Nemo and a spider! I was not feeling the spider, haha. I love that Tyler's was off a fishing pole - how cute is that! He played with it all day and later even hugged it when he fell asleep in the car.
There were lots of other activities as well: bounce houses, puppet shows, etc. Here's Tyler and Kaden playing at the Gymboree booth.
And some soccer - Toddler style?
It was SO hot that day - I thought we were going to melt. It was nice when we all grabbed a table and ate lunch from the different booths and hung out. Tyler was pretty darn tired after we left. We went home and Tyler napped for a couple hours before we set off on adventure #2 of the day - the LA County Fair! Good thing Tyler got a quick cat nap in on the way to Pomona...
I haven't been to the LA County Fair in maybe a decade or something - it's HUGE! Size-wise, it really blows the OC Fair out of the water - they even had an "African" area complete with Zebras, camels and ostriches! The boys had a lot of fun. Here's Tyler and Kaden.
They had these little trains that drove around picking up passengers (for a fee I'm sure). I've seen them in ads to rent for parties - Tyler would love it! We snuck a quick picture of the boys in one that was parked and empty.
Here's Tyler and Will with a camel in the background - I was trying to get the baby zebra but the camel kept blocking it.
That same morning when Tyler woke up, he started talking about wanting to "Riding a Pony". I was like, hmm, how are we going to swing that (we didn't know we were going to the LA fair yet). What a lucky boy Tyler is - he asks and he receives! He sure loves riding ponies!
Here's a video of Tyler riding his pony - he loves it!

Usually we're pretty strict with Tyler's schedule, but I think this was the first time we actually decided to head somewhere far (anywhere out of Irvine = far!) with Tyler at such a late hour in the afternoon. We're making progress! I even wasn't stressing myself out that he probably wouldn't get a bath that night since we arrived at the fair so late with our friends. Tyler's a big boy, he can handle it!

What's a fair visit without fried foods? I had a fried smores (bleh) and tried some of our friend's fried avocados (interesting...). Tyler had funnel cake for the first time! I think he liked it? - at least the strawberries. This picture is so funny - Kaden looks really amused that Tyler was holding the funnel cake outside of his mouth, haha! They are so good at teaching each other bad habits!
They boys had a good time dancing too. Dylan showed Tyler his signature move - finger pointing dancing!
This is a funny video of the boys dancing. If you can make it to the end - you'll see Tyler start his fancy kicking dance moves - and then lose his lychee jelly after a crazy kick! He has a funny expression of "where'd it go??'

After dinner we visited the petting zoo. They had deer and kangaroo in there! Weird. My favorite was the pot belly pigs - they were so cute and they were constantly wagging their tails. What sucked was that it was $3 a person - lame - it was totally free at the OC Fair.

Here's Kaden pointing out that the goat was pooping. heehee.
The pot bellied pigs! Super cute! I wanted to pick one up and hug it! Us moms stayed outside and watched while the dads took the boys in - or I totally would have! haha.
I liked that these animals were mostly babies - much more size friendly to our kids.
On the way out, we stopped to get our feet massaged. :) Ok, so their legs aren't long enough, but I think the whole seat vibrated.
Carnival rides! There were SO many rides - we scouted out ones that were little kid friendly. Here's the dads and the boys. Tyler was totally distracted watching this swing ride.
First ride attempt - a mini rollercoaster. Emphasis on the 'mini'. Tyler was really excited - he started out with his arms up and everything!
Of the pictures I took of them on the ride, this was the LEAST sad. This one Tyler is scared and hiding his head. The others you could see his freaked out face and his arms gripping on tightly. He cried when they came off. Hmm - ok maybe too scary for him.
Next attempt - a balloon ride! We were assured that one of Tyler's friends LOVED it, so chances are Tyler would too, right? Wrong. Here's the before picture - so excited with the bright lights. No after picture, but... yup, you guessed it, Tyler was crying again. Alright! NO more rides!
We had a few tickets left and came across the fun house near the exit. Ok, now THIS has got to be fine for Tyler, right? Jennifer (Kaden's mom) even talked the ticketholder to let in 3 parents with the kids even though we were short the required amount. I figured this should be fun and wanted to take Tyler. ... Mistake! It started out great - Tyler thought the mirrors and glass were so funny as we wandered around. But when we got to the end and to the stairs that go up to the next level, he totally freaked out (it was kind of a dark hallway) and threw a fit. Sigh. You can see him on the floor in the second picture. It was exhausting lugging him up those stairs - he did NOT want to go up, and threw a temper tantrum on the floor upstairs. Double Sigh. I think we're going to wait a little more before we try anything like this again!
Sunday was a full day of family activities. We headed over to my parent's place in the morning. Tyler had fun drawing on their dry-erase board.
He even showed off his photography skills by pressing the timer button and running to be some pictures with my parents!
Afterward we headed to Monterey Park for lunch with Will's parents and his aunts. Didn't go so great as lunch didn't start until 12:30pm at a restaurant, and Tyler was well into his grumpy-need-a-nap mood. When he gets like this, he isn't very friendly to people - especially to older people who think its cute to taunt him and get him angry. Sheesh.

Later that afternoon we headed over to Tyler's BFF Vincent's place for our final goodbye. Sniff Sniff! It's not goodbye- just goodbye for now...
They always have such a blast together! ...but of course they have their little fall-outs over sharing. :)
BIG hug goodbye. We'll miss you guys!
And lastly, girls picture at Ra Sushi. I miss having sushi...

Have a good week everyone!
