Tyler goes swimming, sees family and hangs out at Pretend City!! (Week 113)

Happy Labor Day everyone! Hope you guys all enjoyed your long weekends. We had ourselves an extra long weekend - as we were at home on Friday to start an important task - getting Tyler potty trained! Although, we're far from being done, at least by Monday, Tyler told us twice that he had to go pee-pee on the potty! Huge progress - since before he'll only go when we ask him if he needs to go... hopefully he'll keep getting better. This weekend we headed to our local pool for some morning swimming. Tyler was under some strange impression that he could swim...on his own. After seeing me swim around, he would want us to let go of him so he could start paddling his arms, and then sink immediately. Ha! I really should get him started on some swimming lessons or something! We even practiced kicking in the toddler pool.
As well as floating! Ok, so Tyler isn't really floating, but it's baby steps... love our pool, especially when it's empty!

Here's Tyler walking around the kiddie pool. Funny moment is near the end when he sees a leaf in the water. He absolutely had to have us remove that leaf for him to continue playing. We tried to distract him unsuccessfully and finally had to move it out. He's so picky!

And here's a short video of Tyler practicing his kicking in the pool.

This past Friday we headed out for dinner again - we are getting so much more flexible. :) We met up with friends at this Spicy Szechuan restaurant right here in Irvine. I had to stick to the fried rice and beef & broccoli (both favorites of Tyler's too!) while everyone chowed down on really spicy-looking stuff. I was glad though, Will doesn't get a chance to eat spicy when it's just with me and Tyler. :) Here's Tyler with Trina - he is such a ham with her!
Here's a super cute video of Tyler and Trina - kissing her everywhere!

Group photo! This is at the end of dinner so the dishes are mostly empty - but checkout that dish on the bottom left - there are a TON of hot peppers in that one!
Tyler and his ladies. :)
This weekend we headed to the post office and submitted Tyler's passport application. We're hoping to head to the Bahamas next month, and needed to put a rush on it in order to get Tyler's documents in time. I sure hope everything works out!
The post office also offers passport photos (TOTAL ripoff but convenient) and it took 3 shots to get an acceptable one. haha, I use the term 'acceptable' pretty loosely though. His first two caught him angrily glaring in the photo, and only with the lure of a gummy in his hand did he smile. Oh my. Check out the double chin on my little boy. hahaha! 5 years he'll have this passport with this photo! HAHA!
We also headed back to Pretend City for another visit this weekend. Tyler loves it there and it's so close and convenient. This time we checked out some areas we missed last time - like the pretent Ralphs supermarket! Tyler had a fun time going through all the fruits and vegetables.
He even filled up his shopping basket with different groceries.
In the kitchen of the model home, he did some light housekeeping (ooh, mommy is so proud).
More work put into the construction site. Look at that concentration!
Tyler's friend from school Kaden was there as well - and they enjoyed crashing their cars into each other. Mini Cooper vs a Mercedes!
They played at the sail boat racing area. Those gray metal tubes actually blow air out to propel the boats through the lanes. Kaden thought it was funny to point it at Tyler. haha!
Here's Tyler excited to shoot the water gun...
And then upset when we told him he had to wait his turn. haha!
More cooking in the restaurant. He totally monopolized all the pizza slices and would get upset if anyone tried to take them!
Kaden and Tyler are really funny together - they were standing against this wall looking at each other and copying each other (like tip-toe-ing and stuff!)
Tyler actually got on stage this time for a performance with other kids! He was totally not interested last time. He really does have rhythm - look at him sway his hips!
There were a bunch of masks for the kids to choose from - Tyler is all about elephants right now. I think Kaden's mask is a cat but I'm not sure. I'm glad they had fun!
On Sunday we had family over for some Korean BBQ - except my mom requested some prime rib last minute so the menu changed. :) We had yummy prime rib with Korean side dishes. haha!
It was good seeing my grandmother too! Tyler had just woken from his nap when we took this picture and was in a really grumpy mood (as usually - he always needs some time to adjust when he wakes up). We only got him to stop frowning by dangling that grape Popsicle in front of him! Ahh! Too much bribery!
Group picture! My aunt stopped by as well. I really love having family get togethers! :)
Here's a photo of my aunt, my grandmother, me and my mom - with Tyler, of course!
And here's Tyler with my dad. Tyler actually gets along great with everyone once he's adjusted himself after his nap. It's really fun watching him play with everyone.
Some miscellaneous pictures from the week:

Sunglasses in the house!
Tyler has this weird interest in my tennis shoes/socks that I keep next to my (now rarely used) treadmill. He loves putting them on and walking around in them!
Rocking out again. There's actually a little stepstool that he's standing on as he "performs". He was singing on it and then went downstairs for a bit. We wondered where he went and then saw that he had gone downstairs to drag the Wii Guitar upstairs to perform some more!
We've been trying to find a suitable dining chair for Tyler and his booster - one that he can climb up without tipping over the chair and stuff. Can't visit Ikea with out getting their cones! Yum!
We've also been on the lookout for some new patio furniture. Geez, the nice stuff is ridiculously expensive! Tyler made himself right at home in the furniture store..
And lastly, our own little Hancock (Will Smith movie?) with the beanie and sunglasses. The beanie was on clearance so we bought it - thinking ahead of the snow days coming up! So excited to take Tyler to see the snow again!
Have a good week everyone!

He is definitely ready for swim lessons! That is amazing that he is wanting to swim on his own already! Avery is really not a good sport around water. Even taking baths require careful technique lest water gets in her eyes and she gets mad.
