Happy Memorial Day everyone! Hope you guys all enjoyed the long weekend and did some fun stuff! We had a great and exhausting weekend (so tiring that I was lagging on this blog post)!
Tyler is such a big boy now. Some fun things:
When we're in the car, Tyler loves singing to the Sesame Street CD we play. He'll look outside and point to things he sees, such as cars, trees, birds and planes! He also really likes wearing my sunglasses, heehee.
We were playing in the front yard the other day, riding bikes and stuff, and I pushed him past some flowers. He stopped and picked one and held onto it the rest of the day! He knows to say 'hua' (Chinese for flower) when he sees flowers. :)
Here he is riding his bike...still with the pedal. Man, we really need a tricycle that he can peddle himself. This one he's too small for, but he knows to try to push the pedals at least. At school they have little bikes that all the kids scoot around on though. I made a turn that was too sharp and made the whole bike fall (gasp!) - luckily Tyler realized and actually caught himself from falling (whew!).
I can't remember if I mentioned that we got a real piano last week or not. I Love it! We had been wanting to get one for a while, and was specifically looking for one that was pretty second hand since we knew that Tyler would be pounding on it. I love our new (old) piano - it's got a great sound - thank goodness for our high ceilings!
Here's Tyler sitting with me playing. I don't know how he learns these things - he'll turn the pages after playing some notes, and actually look like he's looking at the notes while he plays!
Here's what happens when Tyler hears music - he dances and goes crazy! This one is pretty funny - he's got this inflatable ring on his head and is dancing and decides to tackle Will! haha!
This weekend my in-laws visited. They just got back from Italy - lucky them! Tyler was SO happy to see them. I told him the day before that they were coming and he started asking where his grandpa was "yeh-yeh go?", and went to the front door hoping to find him. He means "where did yeh-yeh go" but he always leaves out the important 'where did" part. Here they are watching some videos.
This photo cracked me up because Tyler has such a hilarious expression. It's awesome that Tyler LOVES playing with his grandpa - so much that Will and I can chat with his mom without too much interruption!
This past weekend we headed to Tanaka Farms, right here in Irvine, for some strawberry picking! It was SO fun! We went bright and early for their first tour of the day (we are such early birds, not by choice though!). I thought the price was kind of steep ($13 a person!) but it turned out to be well worth it. It started out with an eventful wagon ride. The tractor pulling us actually stalled and broke down causing us to all get out and change wagons, and a gate we went through got stuck and hit our tractor (thank goodness no one was hurt). Family picture in the wagon!
We thought we'd do something different with Tyler's hair that day - so we spiked it! I think his next haircut is definitely going to be a mohawk or something. :) Tyler's just THAT cool! You can't really tell in this picture though, but it was really high and spiky. I'm still waiting for his hair to get thicker, but I'm not complaining, because it's definitely grown in a lot from before (you guys all remember buddha baby right? heehee).
Tyler saw a kid eating a bagel and really wanted a cookie. I guess the bagel kind of looked like a giant cookie? We found some tortilla chips for him at the fruit stand luckily. You can see his pointy hair in this picture! He was really curious at all the fields we were passing, and seemed interested at all the vegetables I pointed out!
I never realized there was such a huge farm right here in Irvine, like a 10 minute drive from our home. It was really awesome to see! They grow so much there. The tour guide also said that they didn't plant any of the sunflowers that were all over the farm - that was all the work of the birds!
Every once in a while, we'd stop and the tour guide would tell us what was being grown, and then give us huge amounts of freshly picked (and washed) produce to taste. Tyler was totally down to try everything! I was really amazed! Here he is trying a green bean, an onion (!), an onion stalk, and a carrot! He wasn't too crazy about any of them (except the carrot stalk!) but I still think it was pretty awesome that he even tried them.
After the tour, they dropped us all off in the strawberry fields. Time to pick some berries! Tyler LOVED it! The strawberries were SO red and SO sweet. At first, he'd pick one and pull off the leaves, but after a while he was just sticking whole strawberries into his mouth! Good thing we had thought ahead and put him in a red shirt. :)
Tyler is a strawberry FIEND! I remember the first time we gave him strawberries, he loved it so much that we finished almost a whole Costco basket of strawberries in 2 days...and then he broke out in crazy hives all over. Yikes! Instead of not letting him have anymore, we (greatly) limited the amount he could have, and now he's totally find and can eat a ton without any allergic reactions.
Included in the $13 was a basket we could fill to take home with us. Only caveat was that we had to be able to close it - and boy did we fill it! Tyler wouldn't let go of this basket, he loved having all those strawberries in his hands. :)
Here's a video of Tyler in the strawberry fields. He's holding a smaller strawberry that he picked himself. We hand him a huge one, he looks at it, then back at his smaller one, and hands us the little one. Smart kid! The strawberry is so huge it takes him two hands to hold it! :)
After the tour, Tyler's BFF Vincent and his mom (our friend) Julie met us at the farm and the boys ran around crazily. I actually didn't even see them when we pulled back to the main stop, but Tyler got excited all of a sudden and started crying. Turns out he had seen Vincent was upset that he couldn't get to him immediately! Sheesh! haha! Here's Tyler and Vincent.
How cute are they! It had gotten quite sunny and Vincent saw that Tyler had a hat on and wanted one too. Luckily I had mine in my bag, and Vincent happily wore it (hence the giant hat on his head). His mom says that he rarely will even wear a hat! :) I love peer pressure, heehee.
Check out this giant sunflower! Reminds me of being a kid and Kareen growing these giant sunflowers in our backyards. We ate the seeds too! Overall, it was a great outing and lots of fun!
Tyler's new favorite toy is a water sprayer that Will uses for cooking. Really. I know I've said it before, but really? - of all the pricey toys he has....
On Memorial Day we had Vincent and his family over for Korean BBQ - yum! We were planning on going to a BBQ in Huntington Beach but the timing just didn't work out for us - sticking to a schedule for Tyler makes everyone much happier. It does limit the stuff we can do, but it's worth it to not have a tired cranky toddler screaming at the end of the day. :) Tyler was SO excited that Vincent was coming over - all morning he was saying 'Bin-Cent, where Arrrrrre You?'. It was so cute!
We even put out the bouncing play yard. I got this maybe a year ago and Tyler had no interest in it. He'd crawl around in it a bit, but then come out. I got so sick of seeing it take up so much room that we deflated it and stored it. I noticed him the other day bouncing on the couch and was like, hmm... maybe he's old enough now... and he totally is! He LOVES that thing, and I love that it saps up his energy. heehee.
Everything is always WONDERFUL with these two until it comes to sharing. Even one of their teachers at school said they have a love-hate relationship. They LOVE hanging out, but HATE sharing. sigh. I didn't include the last picture in this series, which was Tyler with his X eyes crying. When will they learn!? Although, I was happy to see a few times where they argued over a toy, and then Tyler would think about it, and give it to Vincent. Yay Tyler - progress!
Here's a group picture from that day with Julie, Vincent, Patrick, and then myself, Tyler and Will. I'm actually holding my iPhone with a video playing up to get the boys to look up. We're so sneaky huh!
More park adventures! Our nearby park was remodeled and we finally got to check out the new playground. Tyler is so not interested in playgrounds for little kids - he always wants to play on the ones that give me heart attacks if I'm not up there with him. This one even had an area that was like a rope web, and he crawled across! I was amazed to watch him climb up a long steep slide, and even do some rock climbing! Here he is playing with some sand. I've been thinking of getting a water table or sand table.
Tyler is such a big boy now. Some fun things:
- he likes to say 'where are you?' but he says it more like 'where ARRREEEEE you?' when he's looking for someone like Will, me, even Mojo!
- he'll say 'Tyler turn' when we're doing stuff, usually when it's not his turn!
- he'll also say 'mommy pretty'. heehee. I like that one! haha.
- the other day I was in a bad mood and was throwing a temper tantrum (yes, I do that!) haha and he came up to me and said 'mama, happy? hug?' Awww.
- when he accidentally bumps us and we say something like Ouch! he'll say 'sorry (more like saww-ee') and give us a kiss!
- when he does something and we say 'You got it!' he'll say 'I got it!'
- he's just super talking now! It's always fun to hear him actually say phrases and stuff together. he's such a big boy now!
When we're in the car, Tyler loves singing to the Sesame Street CD we play. He'll look outside and point to things he sees, such as cars, trees, birds and planes! He also really likes wearing my sunglasses, heehee.
