Friday early morning we hit the road for SF - I was nervous and excited! Nervous since I didn't know how Tyler was going to do on such a long drive but excited also to get out of the house! :) It turned out to be a relatively easy drive actually - we stopped a few times for diaper changes and stuff and had one longer stop around Dublin when Tyler just needed to get out of the car for a bit (we perused a Babies'R'Us!). Here's Will and Tyler at a gas station a couple hours into the drive!
We first went to Half Moon Bay to pick up Kareen (there for a staff retreat) - here Tyler met another baby! He was only a week or so older than this baby - but Tyler seemed way bigger! Here's Tyler checking out his new friend.
After that we headed into the city. It's been SO long since we've been in the bay area! While Will took a nap, Kareen and I walked around Laurel Heights with Tyler. We met another mom who had a 6 month old baby - she was like woah your baby is only 2 months?! ... hmm we seem to be getting a lot of that lately... haha.. That night Tyler had a lot of visitors! He was a good baby and let everyone hold him! Here's Tyler with Connie - my best friend from high school!
Here's Kareen/ me/Tyler with Amber and Nancy!
Here's Ray and Han with Tyler!
Here's Jackie and myself (Tyler was sleeping!).
It was a long night - great catching up with old friends, but we didn't get to bed until 3am! Tyler slept on the couch next to us (we were on an air mattress on the floor) and slept pretty well. It was a little weird not having him sleep between us - but its good to know he doesn't have to.Saturday morning we headed out to Golden Gate park - it was quite chilly - I totally miss the cold weather up there. We started at the conservatory of flowers and then walked around for a while. We wanted to get a shot with the Golden Gate bridge in the background afterwards, but it was really overcast.
We spent time feeding the super friendly squirrels too. They would come right up to you and take the seeds out of your hands. Here's one almost falling onto Andy's hand to get the pumpkin seed.
Afterwards, we had just enough time to get dressed and head to the wedding ceremony. Tyler wore real clothes for the first time! In hindsight, we probably should have gotten him a little more used to real clothes ahead of time - but he did ok! He was SOO cute! This is seriously my FAVORITE picture of the weekend. Tyler is like a little person!
The wedding ceremony was at a church - St. Peter and Paul (?)- I found myself whispering to myself - please don't cry Tyler please don't cry... He didn't! There were other babies/little kids that were making noises during the ceremony but I think Tyler made a little noise once but that was it. Yay Tyler!
There's the bride behind us walking down the aisle!
Here's Tyler with Ryan and Jacqueline - Will used to work with Jacqueline wayyy back at Charles Schwab.
Afterwards, they had arranged for guests to take a tour of the city on one of those cute SF Trolleys - I totally wanted to go but we were still pretty exhausted and I didn't think Tyler would like it. It was a good thing we didn't go though, because later we heard it was FREEZING (the trolley is open) and they actually crossed the Golden Gate Bridge! Brr! Here's me in front of the church - see the trolley in the background?
We got our stuff together (wow oh wow you travel with SOO much more stuff when there's a baby!) and checked into the Westin Market Street hotel. BEAUTIFUL hotel - I loved it. The reception was downstairs so they gave us a good rate. I LOVED our room - especially the king bed. Something about staying in a hotel - even one night and WITH a baby - I still felt like it was a vacation - a much needed one especially after 2 months of being cooped up at home! Kareen and Andy watched Tyler upstairs while we were at the reception - they did a great job! Here's Tyler on our bed - he's so tiny in it!
Tyler checking out our floor to ceiling view of SF - you can see Metreon on the left and Union Square on the right. He doesn't look too impressed huh ... haha....
We didn't stay too long at the wedding reception - we were just so exhausted! It was very beautiful and intimate though! I'm still kicking myself that we didn't get a picture with the bride and groom - my sleep deprived brain wasn't working very well.
The next morning we checked out, picked up Kareen/Andy and headed to Berkeley for a trip down memory lane. Berkeley has changed so much! New buildings popping up everywhere! We stopped by our apartment on Channing/Fulton where we had lived for 5 years - and saw that they had painted it brownish tan! Yuck! It used to be this light blue. Oh well. Oh and college kids these days - wow they are looking young! I know I know, its not them, its us. sigh. Here's Will and me in front of our old apartment. That's our old balcony and bedroom window right there!
Here's our little CAL family in front of Sather Gate!
Here's our new family in front of the Campanile!
I actually nursed in public for the first time in front of the Campanile! Tyler was grumpy and hungry and wouldn't take the bottle of bm I had prepared - ack! We're definitely going to need to practice getting him used to that in the future.
We also got to see the protesters that are living in the trees next to the Cal Stadium. They are protesting UC Berkeley's plan to cut down a grove of trees to make an athletic center. They seriously just look like bums living in trees - the normal type of bum you'd see living on Telegraph! The city of Berkeley actually put up fences around them for their protection with football season and all.
Here's Kareen and me!
We also met up with a couple of Will's college friends - Will and Carolyn. They have an almost 2 year old Ricky - he was so cute running around and smiling!
Afterwards, we made a very important stop at Zachary's for lunch! Yum!
And lastly, Thanks to Kareen and Andy for hosting us this weekend! We had a great time!
